A hereto untold story…of the police academy days…note

Instructor Onizuka: Matsuda! What the hell do you think police officers are?!
Jinpei Matsuda: If you ask me, they are… people who serve their country and its citizens with pride and a sense of duty… who respect human rights and perform their duties with justice and kindness… who strictly uphold the law and emphasize solidarity… who strive to improve themselves, in character and skills… who show integrity and preserve people's peaceful lives...that’s what police officers are, right?

Detective Conan: Police Academy Arc-Wild Police Story - (名探偵コナン 警察学校編 Meitantei Konan Keisatsu gakkō-hen - Wild Police Story) is a spinoff manga of Detective Conan. It was written by Gōshō Aoyama and drawn by Takahiro Arai. It was being serialized in Shogakukan's Shonen Sunday S starting October 2019 and ended on November 2020, with the first volume released on August 8, 2018.

The story takes place seven years into the past, when 22-year-old Rei Furuya and his friends attend the Metropolitan Police Academy.

Police Academy Arc-Wild Police Story provides examples of:

  • Affectionate Nickname: Heterosexual Life-Partners Rei Furuya and Hiromitsu Morofushi have one for each. Rei calls his friend “Hiro”, who in turn refers to him as “Zero”.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Morofushi is haunted by his, in which his parents where murdered by a intruder seemingly right in front of his eyes.
  • Misfit Mobilization Moment: In the aptly titled Chapter 3 Of One Heart And Mind, the five come together with a single goal, to rescue their instructor Onizuka who has strangled and suspended in the air by a rope from a fallen construction worker. Specifically:
  • Physical Fitness Punishment: Instructor Onizuka makes the entire Onizuka class run an extra lap because Matsuda and Furuya refuse to confess how the got their bandages and Wataru Date covered for them.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: Matsuda gets into a brawl with Furuya because the former believes the latter is too naïve.
Furuya: I have no idea why you seem to hate me…but I simply must become a police officer, so kindly stop getting in my way!
Matsuda: That, that’s exactly it! This childish infatuation with the police of yours…that’s what I just can’t stand!

Graduation

Toru Amuro celebrates his graduation from the Metropolitan Police Academy alongside Jinpei Matsuda, Wataru Date, Kenji Hagiwara and Hiromitsu Morofushi. Except for Amuro, the others faded from the photo to symbolize that they've died in the line of duty.

How well does it match the trope?
