Ho Yay / ThunderCats (1985)

Go To

You didn't have to wait until 2011 to find Double Take- and Fascinating Eyebrow-inducing scenes in Thundercats.

Tygra/Lion-o
  • In the first episode, Cheetara's not the only one admiring the new fully grown Lion-o.
Tygra: And a fine figure of a Thundercat you've grown up to be, Lion-o!
    Cheetara: And so handsome, too...
  • The climax of "The Doomgaze" is rather interesting. Lion-o was mesmerized by Ta-she from the instant he laid eyes on her, before she started actively using her power. According to Cheetara, the reason her Hypnotic Eyes don't work on her is because "I am a woman!" When the Thundertank pulls up with all the other Thundercats, Tygra's the only one who leaps out to help save Lion-o, and he's apparently as unaffected by The Vamp's powers as Cheetara. She must not be his type...
  • In "The Fireballs of Plun-darr," when Tygra doesn't return from patrol, Lion-o's so worried about him that he doesn't even go to bed. The sword shows him Tygra tied up in a Death Trap, calling out Lion-o's name. Lion-o immediately leaps out the window and lowers himself to the ground using the Claw Shield's cable (despite this forcing him to leave it behind), because evidently going through the Lair's hallways and out the front door would have taken way too much time! The whole storm-the-castle-and-rescue-the-victim-from-the-tower plot is as standard as it gets, except the hero usually acts it out with his Damsel in Distress Love Interest...
  • After Lion-o breaks through the rockslide in "The Mountain," saving both Panthro and Tygra from suffocating to death, Tygra's the one he runs to.
  • At the end of "The Trial of Mind Power," Tygra holds out his Thundercat insignia to his successful pupil. Instead of just taking it like he did with the others, Lion-o places his hand over it, and the two stand there holding hands. In fact, the camera cuts away to a long shot of them holding hands and looking into each other's eyes, and the scene fades away with them in that position.
  • When the two Pretend to Be Brainwashed in "Together We Stand," Alluro calls them "a fine looking pair." Now Everyone Can See It?
  • The infamous "Crystal Canyon":
    • The first thing a dazed and injured Tygra remembers after the crash of the Thunderstrike is "... Lion-o!" (let the record show there were four of them on the mission). He's clearly distraught when he sees the unconscious Lion-o slumped over the side of the plane and, despite being injured badly enough to need an improvised walking stick when he goes to Find the Cure!, he forces himself to climb up to pull Lion-o out of the wreckage.
    • There are actually three moments where Tygra's able to resist the obsessive effects of the Keystone. First, after he first grabs it, he snaps out of the resulting euphoria when Snarf reminds him Lion-o's in danger, then only cares about getting it to Lion-o as fast as possible.
    • Second, when Lion-o flat out asks him, "Lighten up, Tygra, what's the matter with you?", he shakes his head, briefly comes to his senses, and apologizes.
    • Third, when Alluro starts ranting about giving the hypnotized Lion-o to Chilla as a "pet," he stops begging for the crystal and insists he won't let that happen. What do all three incidents have in common...?
    • Add in the fact that Lion-o's call and sword heal Tygra of the Artifact of Doom's effects, and it looks less like a story about the evils of drug use than a story about The Power of Love...

Tygra/Bengali

  • After the initiation ceremony is completed at the end of "Thundercats-Ho!," Tygra grabs Bengali by both shoulders, turns him to look him right in the eye, and says one word in the most affectionate tone: "Brother..."
  • This exchange from the beginning of "Bracelet of Power":
Bengali: The sooner we unload the Feliner, the sooner we can snag some z's.
Tygra: (eagerly) Sounds good to me!

Other

  • Ta-She tried to use her Doomgaze on Cheetara when they see each other eye-to-eye, until she learns that she can't use it on other women.
Cheetara: You may mesmerize men with your evil beauty, but I am a woman — you hold no mystery for me!
