Fridge Brilliance

  • In the present day Sir Philip is constantly infuriated, or at best baffled by Sourquill's inventions. In his retelling we see his increasing frustration with his best friend Harry Biscuit, who frequently holds back Pip with his dreadful devices (often involving swans). Pip tries to remain calm with Harry due to his friendship (though he does have his Rage Breaking Point). Now he can vent his fury freely.
  • Pippa seems to get off... awfully easy for siding with Mr. Benevolent for as long as she does, committing a laundry list of crimes up to and including treason (kidnapping the Queen for a whole year). But, as Sir Phillip explained, the only crime a Victorian woman is legally recognised as being able to commit is demanding the right to vote. Which Pippa didn't do. Off on a technicality!
