Dirty Laundry is a 1987 American comedy film directed by William Webb.

Sound engineer Jay accidentally comes into possession of a million dollars in cash when he takes home the wrong laundry bag. A drug-smuggling ring led by 'Macho' Marty Benedictine is after the money and they are more than willing to endanger Jay and his friends for it. Jay is accompanied on this adventure by Trish, a reporter he meets at a concert who wants to make a scoop out of the whole affair.

Tropes:

  • Boob-Based Gag: Jay and Trish convince a woman to sell them her car for $3,000. Before she hands it over though, she needs help with her babies. She holds her breasts as she says this, making Jay and Trish think that's what she's referring to. She notices and says "Not these babies!"; she's referring to her poodles, which she needs help unloading from the car.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Jay hits something with his car every time he drives. He also wears headphones while driving. He doesn't care, even when the other characters call him out for it.
  • Funny Conception Story: When Trish asks Jay whether he was born under an unlucky star, he wonders if being conceived while his parents watched a Bruce Lee movie at the drive-in counts.
  • Headphones Equal Isolation: Jay says he likes to wear headphones at all times to tune out the world, though unlike most examples of this trope he's a jovial and personable guy; he's just a little unaware of current events.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Jay refuses to let a valet park his car, claiming valets have no respect for vehicles. He parks his car at the same time, ignoring it when he hits something so that the trunk pops open.
  • Intrepid Reporter: Trish is dissatisfied interviewing celebrities for Entertainment World, so when she learns a criminal gang is targeting Jay for a million dollars, she gets involved for the sake of getting a scoop.
  • Never Mess with Granny: Two old ladies at the laundromat turn out to be cocaine dealers (hiding the stuff in detergent packages). They pull guns on the cops and make a quick getaway on a car whose license plate reads "Gray power".
  • Rain of Something Unusual: In the end the gangsters are arrested and Jay and Trish get to keep the bag of money, though Jay decides to throw most of it from the helicopter they're on, reasoning it belongs to everyone.
  • Rule of Pool: Jay and Trish run through a pool party while running away from Benedictine's goon. The goon ends up falling in the pool when he tries to walk on the floats as a shortcut.
