Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's: Tag Force is an Alternate Universe Fic written by Hiyuusha in late 2013 and officially completed as of July 3rd 2014 with a total of 108 chapters. It's no doubt one of the best stories the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds archive has to offer.

A few months after graduating Duel Academy as a Slifer Red, "Red Hat" Konami moves to Neo Domino City to live a normal life, but unfortunately trouble always had a way in finding him. Strange events start occurring within his new home that can't be overlooked. Essentially, he wanted to avoid these types of situations, but soon becomes involved in a war between Good vs. Evil with more at stake than anyone realized. If he doesn't find a way to help lead the Signers down the right path to achieve their ultimate destinies, the world as they know it will be swallowed in a sea of ambitions?

Can be read here.

Second Part of this fanfic is completed, but it is currently being rewritten. New version.

Third Part is complete.

Interlude is here.

A fourth part based on the fifth Tag Force games is available here and an official abridge here.

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's: Tag Force provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Expansion: Divine plays a much bigger role here then he did in the anime.
  • A Friend in Need: Somewhat the main plot element of this story.
  • All for Nothing: This was implied to happen for the preview of Tag Force Two. For all their efforts to find the light of destruction to fight against the Vylon, it had been all for naught. As quoted by Z-One.
Z-One: The time you meant to return to no longer exists.
  • Alternate Universe: Implied by Z-One in the final chapters and extra's of Learning to Duel. Learning to Duel was first a fanfic created by Enzo which turns out to be a real alternate universe of the first installment as Z-One points out.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Happens in chapters 80, 81, and also 102.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Konami's an expert duelist with apparent intelligence who puts the time and effort in fixing other people's problems, but for some reason can't put in the time to find a job.
  • Butt-Monkey: Enzo and Carly often find themselves being this.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Enzo is often subject to Butt-Monkey treatment, but he's taken several self-defense classes which helped him beat a Sector Security officer and his dueling skills improved so much he managed to beat Wisteria.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Has a lot of these.
    • The first time Konami and Akiza dueled.
    • Konami vs. Terence
    • Konami and Divine vs. Kami and Gillian
    • Konami and Carly vs. Terence and Simon
    • Sayer vs. Enzo
    • Sayer vs. Carly
    • Carly vs. Dark Signer Mikage
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Exodius.
  • Death by Adaptation: Greiger and Mikage although the latter has a chance to come back but the former... not so much
  • Double Standard: When Konami calls Jack off for his lack of action against the Dark Signers, he completely overlooks that Akiza and Luna have done nothing themselves.
  • Hero on Hiatus: After the semi-finals of the Fortune Cup Konami was put in a coma after losing to Akiza.
  • I Am Who?: Konami is revealed as a member of a sentient race of alien weapons known as Vylons.
  • Ignorant Minion: Pretty much every member of Arcadia believing their 'savior' Divine was a noble man.
  • It's All My Fault: In chapter 60, a remorseful Konami blames himself for Carly getting ambushed in her apartment and becoming a Dark Signer. While one could argue that Carly was stupid to run out of Konami's apartment and into the dead of night by herself, but Konami was too lazy to follow her and decided to duel with Akiza whom at that point didn't need as much of his help as Carly did.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Konami is practically the poster boy for this trope.
  • Killed Off for Real: Greiger.
  • Out of Character: Martha in the beginning of chapter 67.
  • Red Is Heroic: Konami. Duh.
  • Ship Tease: Between Konami and Akiza. The attraction is at least hinted on Akiza's side near the end. Ultimately, however it comes to naught with the latter's attraction being shifted to Yusei.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Wisteria.
  • Token Mini-Moe: Alice, who is also the team's Tag Along Kid.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Konami and Enzo. Enzo and Wisteria also had the same dynamics.
  • Would Not Hit a Girl: No matter how much Wisteria deserves it Enzo never lays a finger on her.
