Tsubasa Mizuno is an ordinary girl who idolizes the Precure, who has a strong sense of justice and is always willing to help out people in need. In another story, she would be chosen to become a Precure herself...
... but this is not that story. At first, at least.
Instead, it's Tsubasa's best friend Kotori who receives a PreChan Mirror, as part of the Rising Precure defending Tokyo! One she discovers Kotori's secret, she slips into the role of the team's Muggle Best Friend, determined to help people despite not having powers of her own. But being a Magical Girl is nowhere near as easy as she thinks...
Wings of Grace
is a Precure fanfic series by RosesandSugar, published on AO3. Set in the HappinessCharge Pretty Cure! continuity, the story follows an original team of Cures, one of the many established to operate around the globe. It runs concurrently with the events of Happiness Charge, and is structured in an episodic format mimicking a Precure anime series. The first part of the story, The Tale of Rising Wings, was first published in March 2023 and was completed in February 2024. The second part of the story, Dance of the Black Swan was published in April 2024 and is currently ongoing.
This series contains examples of the following tropes:
- Sailor Earth: Centers on a team of original Precure stationed in Tokyo. However, it moves away from the team when Tsubasa moves to Pikarigaoka at the end of The Tale of Rising Wings Chapter 11.
- All Love Is Unrequited: Kotori has a crush on Tsubasa as revealed in Chapter 6, and so does a random bit character. Tsubasa begins crushing on Seiji Sagara in Chapter 12, but he has a canonical crush on Megumi, who has her canon crush on Blue…
- Cast Full of Gay: As can be expected for a fic centering on magical girls. Only Tsubasa is confirmed to be straight.
- Chronic Hero Syndrome: Tsubasa, in spades. She's all but psychologically incapable of turning down anyone in need of help.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: It happens off-screen, but Phantom imprisons all of the Rising Precure save for Kotori in the Precure Graveyard with minimal effort.
- Elsewhere Fic: Takes place in Tokyo, which is being attacked by the Phantom Empire in this fic’s universe. Until Chapter 11, after which Tsubasa moves to Pikarigaoka following an incident in her school.
- Incompatible Orientation: Kotori, who is a lesbian, has a crush on the straight Tsubasa.
- Muggle Best Friend: Lacking powers of her own, Tsubasa becomes support for Kotori and the Rising Precure, doing whatever she can to assist them. This only applies until Chapter 10, when Blue gives her a Love Crystal and she becomes Cure Swan, the team's Sixth Ranger.
- Stations of the Canon: Mostly averted due to the first eleven chapters taking place outside of Pikarigaoka. However, the girls are forced to partake in battles against crowds of Saiarks without knowing the canon context in chapters 13 and 14.
- Slice of Life: The first eight chapters largely follow this format, featuring the girls living their lives aside from the occasional Saiark battle. At least until Phantom arrives in chapter 9, that is.
