Weekend at Belos's is fanfic written for The Owl House by itslilacmoon (watery_melon_baller).

When Hunter retrieves the key to the portal, while he is handing it over to Belos, the Emperor notices Flapjack hiding in Hunter's clothes. On the revelation that Hunter has Flapjack as a palismen, he has a heart attack. And dies.

Hunter panics and tries to hide the fact that the Emperor is dead. Things escalate.

Tropes used:

  • Adults Are Useless: Averted. While Hunter is running things on his own with no support, the Coven Heads are picking up that something is up. Likewise, when Hunter is dragged to sleepover at Willows', her dads pick up that something is up with Hunter and try have a talk with him about whether everything is okay at home.
  • All for Nothing: Belos spent centuries working towards the Day of Unity. Obviously, this comes to naught in this fic.
  • Awful Truth: Hunter is not happy when he reads the notebook containing the information about the Day of Unity.
  • Bad Liar: Hunter is not convincing when he claims to Luz that Belos is fine.
  • Befriending the Enemy: As per canon, Luz is aiming for this with Hunter. She asks Eda not to ruin his "redemption arc", unaware of the fact Belos is dead.
  • Cutting the Knot: Hunter panics when he finds what the truth about the Day of Unity. He calms down once Flapjack points out it can easily be stopped by not casting the spell.
  • Clothespin Nose Plug: When CAT breaks into Belos's room where his body is, they are quick to seal the door to keep the smell away.
  • Dead Guy Puppet: One of the methods the duo uses to hide the fact Belos is dead is Flapjack climbing into and moving the corpse, even somehow making him speak.
  • I Didn't Mean to Kill Him: It's not like Hunter planned to kill his evil uncle.
  • I Knew There Was Something About You: Darius is not quiet about his vindication when he finds the source of the fish-and-lemon smell.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: Flapjack understands that Hunter is upset at his uncle's death. Flapjack also wants to use the opportunity it gives to ensure his boy's happiness and safety and manages to get Hunter on board.
  • Pet the Dog: Darius offers Hunter lessons when he finds him trying to learn how to sew. Subverted when it shows that he was taking a opportunity to create a chance of Eberwolf to snoop with risk of being caught by the Golden Guard.
  • Rhetorical Request Blunder: This is what leads to Flapjack puppeteering Belos.
    Hunter: How about you go play Emperor for a day and see if you can do any better?
    Flapjack: Maybe I will.
  • Shattering the Illusion: Adrian tries to dispel an illusion on "Belos" when the cancellation of the Day of Unity is announced. Since the disguise doesn't use illusions, it doesn't take. Cue terror on his part when he thinks he had angered Belos by believing him a fake.
  • Shout-Out: Hunter has a Angry Birds shirt. He correctly suspects it is from the Human Realm.
  • Skewed Priorities: When CAT finds Hunter after discovering Belos is dead, Darius' first thought isn't to question what happened. Instead, he focuses on Hunter's clothes.
    Darius: -horrified- “What in the name of Titan are you wearing?
  • Smells of Death: Belos's corpse starts to smell horrible. Hunter tries using a vat of powerful perfume to cover it up, but despite the fact that the brand was specifically made to be usable on corpses, all it does is tone it down and make the whole castle smell like fish and lemons.
