The Pulse

This fanfic is written by marvel1015, and takes places a year after the events of the movie. Hiro Hamada meets a 15 year old girl named Akria Tanaka who, like him is a prodigy. She has managed to create a a limitless energy source that could change the future not just for San Fransokyo, but for the entire world as well. Hiro and Akria soon become close friends, and he later introduces her his friends in the Nerd Lab. One day, after Akria is rescued from Yama and his goons by the Big Hero 6 team, she feels inspired to become a super heroine herself.
When Akria's life takes a sudden and tragic turn, she turns to the eponymous superhero team for help and catch the person responsible. And who knows, maybe Hiro and Akria end up being more than just friends.
The author's OC, Akria not only is similar to Hiro in some ways, she also has her own personality. It's one of those stories where Hiro sometimes meets and falls for a girl his age, but the story itself is nicely written and portrays growing friendship and romance very realistically. Plus, the characters form the movie all stay true to themselves without deviating too much from their personalities.
This fanfic provides examples of:
- Almost Kiss: Hiro and Akria have one after their romantic dance. They do end up kissing for real at the end of chapter 17.
- Because You Were Nice to Me: It's heavily implied that the moment that Akria begins to fall for Hiro is when he comforts her after losing her parents.
- Brainy Brunette: Similarily, like Hiro, Akria is very intelligent for her age, and she has dark hair as well. Bonus points for actually having brown hair.
- Break the Cutie: Good lord, Akria! Where to start? She ends up orphaned after her house burns down, and later discovers the culprit was her own FATHER! She gets better, but dang...
- Break His Heart to Save Him: When Akria realizes that only she can stop her father's energy cannon from destroying the city, Hiro begs not to, knowing that it would be a suicide mission. Akria, realizing how much Hiro cares about her, shares a quick kiss with him before ordering him to get everyone, including her father to safety, even though it clearly pains her to do so.
- Call-Back: The scenes where Hiro is introducing Akria to his friends and talking with Baymax in their room is almost exactly like the scenes from the movie, albeit changed up slightly.
- Character Development: Hiro is noticeably more empathetic and willing to help his friends than he was in the movie. Likely because he doesn't want Akria to make the same mistake he did of letting oneself be consumed by revenge.
- Energy Weapon: Upon becoming the Pulse, Akria creates some metallic gauntlets that can shoot out blasts of energy. Hiro laters upgrades her suit so that she can set her energy to come out in different forms.
- Flight: One of the upgrades Hiro gives Akria is a pair of rocket boots.
- Happily Adopted: Akria goes to live with the Hamadas after her home is destroyed in a fire, but even then she already had a good relationship with them.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Akria realizes that only she can stop the machine that her father created, knowing full well she could die from using that much energy. Fortunately, she survives.
- Hero of Another Story: Akria is initially a superhero in her own league. After she and the BH6 team discover each other's identities, she later becomes part of the team as well.
- Relationship Up Grade: Hiro and Akria ultimately become an Official Couple by the end of the story. GoGo even reveals that she made a bet with the others on they'd get together or not, which she ends up winning.
- She Cleans Up Nicely: Akria wears a red dress at the SFIT dance, and its enough to make Hiro drop his cup of punch open seeing her.
- Ship Tease: Hiro and Akria start to see each other differntly by the time of chapter 12.
- Single Woman Seeks Good Man: The main reason Akria starts falling for Hiro is because he always stood by her after she lost her parents and the promise he made to her that he would always protect her.
- Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Akria normally hates dresses and make-up, but is willing to make herself look nice if the occasion calls for it. Plus, she won't shy away from romantic moments with Hiro.
