Fanfic / The Butterfly’s Blessing

Go To

The fight between Abuela and Mirabel pushes the Miracle beyond breaking point. Casita begins to crumble, and Mirabel tries to save the magic, but in the ensuing collapse of her home, the dying magic saves her life, but at great personal cost.

Waking up in a completely different world, Mirabel meets an unremarkable boy who lacks special powers of his own, and is thrown into a battle between good and evil. All the while, the family she left behind is forced to pick up the pieces.

Written by RarepairKai22, The Butterfly’s Blessing is a My Hero Academia and Encanto crossover fanfic where an amnesiac Mirabel wakes up in the MHA world with the power of blessings in her hands. It can be read on Archive of Our Own here.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Name Change: In the MHA world, Mirabel goes by the name of Mariposa, as she suffers from Laser-Guided Amnesia and doesn’t even remember her own name. Word of God has confirmed that the story will still call her Mirabel, unless another character is addressing her, for the sake of convenience.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Downplayed with Death Arms. While he still admonishes Izuku for running recklessly into his attempt to save Katsuki from the Slime Villain, he does attempt to be gentler about it, unlike his canon counterpart, who had no qualms about harshly rebuking Izuku for recklessness.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Izuku is set to be in a romantic relationship with Shirakumo Oboro in the future, when his canon counterpart has only visibly expressed attraction towards girls.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Instead of later inheriting One For All, Izuku is blessed with the power to produce weapons from his hands, courtesy of Mirabel.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Aizawa and Present Mic, according to the story tags, are married, when they are merely close friends in the canon material.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Mirabel wakes up in the MHA universe unable to remember anything from her life in the Encanto, a result of the Miracle’s magic saving her from dying in Casita’s collapse.
  • Contrived Coincidence: It is by sheer coincidence that Mirabel regains consciousness on the very rooftop where All Might tells Izuku that he can’t be a hero because he lacks a quirk, with Mirabel even overhearing that fateful conversation herself shortly after waking up.
  • Death by Adaptation: The slime villain is presumably killed by Izuku when the latter stabs it in the eye and slashes its brain apart with a sword he manifests from Mirabel’s blessing.
  • Grew a Spine: While normally a pacifist and adverse to conflict, Masaru is both horrified and outraged by Katsuki continuously insulting Izuku for apparently no reason, only to uncover the damning truth that his son has been bullying his childhood friend for a long time, and that by staying out of things, Masaru had let Katsuki degenerate into the violent bully that he currently is.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Casita collapses as a result of Abuela and Mirabel fighting, and Mirabel still tries to save the Miracle.
    • All Might still drops the bottle containing the Slime Villain, allowing it to escape and take Katsuki hostage.
  • Point of Divergence:
    • Instead of Casita protecting Mirabel from the collapsing rubble, the Miracle saves her life by sending her into the MHA universe.
    • When Katsuki is taken hostage by the Slime Villain, Izuku and Mirabel manage to free him and deal with the villain. All Might has no role in Katsuki’s rescue whatsoever.
    • Because Mitsuki takes Izuku and Mirabel back to his apartment after the hostage situation, All Might is deprived of the chance to offer Izuku the chance to be his successor.
  • Flaming Sword: What best describes the first weapon that Izuku creates after he is blessed by Mirabel’s power, which he uses against the Slime Villain.
