"Chain Of Ascension" is a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fanfic written by GraeFoxx
Xander, after the episode "Halloween", is repeatedly caught in a time loop, retracing various points in his life since that day.

Chain Of Ascension provides examples of :
- Applied Phlebotinum : Unlike the source material, the story makes full use of the time loop in which Xander was trapped in order for him to learn new skills he acquires using the magical costumes from the episode "Halloween", with Xander wearing various costumes. to master new types of skills that will be useful to you .
- All Girls Want Bad Boys : Lampshading . Xander realizes that Buffy REALLY likes troublesome men. She falls in love with Angel, a Vampire with a lot of baggage, starts a sexual relationship with Spike in the time loop in which he gets his soul back, and when Xander becomes disillusioned with her and starts to treat her badly, that's when he finally has a chance to start a romantic relationship with her .
- Calling Your Orgasms : This happens whenever there is an explicit sex scene .
- Distracted by the Sexy : Angelus and Xander pause their fight to the death to admire Buffy and Drusilla passionately kissing while being possessed by ghost lovers .
- Death by Despair : Depressingly justified . After all the unresolved trauma he went through during the time cycles, Xander still knows that Buffy began a sexual relationship with the newly-animated Spike . The same man, when was soulless , tortured his parents for days, turned his father into a Vampire and ordered him to take Xander to him and killed his mother. Needless to say, Xander couldn't take the emotional shock and died of bitterness, having to redo the time cycle again, this time even more mentally broken than before .
- Heartbroken Badass : Much of the story is in; focuses on Xander being in love with Buffy and trying to make himself better so she sees him as more than a friend. After she sleeps with Spike , who killed her parents in that timeline , he is completely furious and heartbroken , to the point of actually dying of shock and being sent back in time , without having the much needed sense of closure in this timeline . issue, leaving him furious and severely depressed for several months in the new timeline.
- Instant Expert: Subverted . Xander ends up acquiring the "brain pattern" of the magical fantasies he embodies, among them a soldier, Sherlock Holmes, Casanova, etc . But he still needs training and experience to use these new skills effectively , in addition to needing to go through the time cycle several times for a better mental effect .
- Mental Time Travel: For reasons still unknown, this ends up happening to Xander, leaving him stuck in a time loop. Every time a significant member of the show's original characters who weren't supposed to die ends up dying, Xander's mind ends up going back in time to the morning; in which he woke before the episode "Halloween".
- Out-of-Character Moment :
- Jenny Calendar bewitches Cordelia, currently Xander's girlfriend, into accepting that Xander begins a sexual affair with her. Xander only realizes this after having sex with her and forces her to undo the spell, leaving Cordelia heartbroken.
- Buffy starts a casual sex relationship with Spike, after he tortured, killed Xander's parents and turned his father into a Vampire, even though she knows perfectly well what will happen to Xander if he finds out counts like that .
- After Xander inevitably finds out, he breaks down mentally, is visibly dying from the emotional shock of this revelation, he orders Buffy to leave him alone. Normally she would have ignored him and rushed him to a hospital , but here she complies , apologizes again and leaves , even though she knows he will end up dying from it .
- Really Gets Around: Xander, after he acquired the skills and knowledge of Casanova to honor his legacy and the various women in bed. Among them: Cordelia, Jenny Calendar, Kendra, Tiffani Amber Thiessen, Pamela Anderson and several other celebrities . As in the canon, Cordelia also qualifies, as in several time cycles she mentions having had sex with several different men .
- Ship Tease : The story is VERY focused on Xander's romantic relationships, especially the Xander/Buffy relationship .
- Sex God: After acquiring Casanova's fantasy abilities and "practicing" a lot, Xander ends up making it.Cordelia even mentions that he "ruined the other men for her" .
- Strong as They Need to Be : Just like in Canon, vampires are only as strong as they need to be for plot maintenance. Though Xander throughout the story recognizes the danger level of a common vampire, he has several times dealt with vampires with ease and subsequently got into trouble and died fighting just one vampire. Particularly notable in chapter 19 , where he , furious and unstable at being reset in time again, chose a random vampire to vent to and died multiple times , restarting the time loop several times before managing to kill him , with the narration even mentioning that he looked like he was in a video game , dying multiple times to defeat the "big boss" .
- Took a Level in Badass : Because of the many time loops that Xander goes through, in addition to making full use of Ethan Rayne's magical fantasies and going through various horribly traumatic events, he goes from being the original comic relief to being an extremely skilled and dangerous demon hunter and fighter , with a wide variety of versatile abilities.
- Teacher/Student Romance:In several time cycles, Xander manages to seduce Jenny Calendar and start a sexual relationship with her.
- Take That!! : The Author makes clear his disgust with the fact that Buffy's producers have spoiled Xander's character, constantly belittling him and making light of his serious confidence and self-esteem issues, never bothering to actually keep one of the many character developments he went through and most of the time leaving him as the unlucky comic relief of the series and even telling your actor to exercise less so he doesn't look too handsome.
