Are you on our Side, or are you a Traitor?
is an Attack on Titan Fanfic written by Hotaru Kurosawa.Annie Leonhart has a younger sister, Ami, who also infiltrates the human race along with Reiner, Bertholdt, Annie. As she trains along with everyone else, however, she begins to question her mission as her viewpoint on the human race slowly changes. In the end, she must choose a side: the Titans or humanity? Either way, she will face the consequences of her actions. Takes place during the 104th Training Corp Arc and beyond.
While the grammar needs work, this is a rather interesting story, and Ami is an interesting character. The subtle changes she makes in the timeline are enough to have a big impact later. Again, not a perfect story, but a story worth checking out.
The story contains examples of:
- Ax-Crazy: Ami, especially when she's off her meds.
- Berserk Button: Don't call Ami a boy. She's a bit sensitive about that.
- Big Sister Bully: What Annie is to Ami. In Chapter 3, when Ami interferes with her plan to get Eren sent to the fields, Annie proceeds to viciously attack her sister and threatens to do worse to her if she does it again.
- Death Glare: A staple of the Leonhart siblings.
- Even Evil Has Standards: When Reiner suggested gathering the trainees into a group so he could transform and kill them all, Annie promptly slapped him for even suggesting that.
- Heel–Face Turn: Ami does this, but only so she can get away from everything and live a life that's relatively peaceful. Annie briefly persuades her to come back to their side, but it's when the Titan Shifters kill Marco that destroys any hope of them having her on their side.
- Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Reiner does this to Ami when she tries to kill them for killing Marco. It doesn't work out!
- Laughing Mad: When Ami is off her pills, she starts doing that while she's killing Titans.
- Love-Hate Relationship: Describes the relationship between Ami and Annie perfectly. On the Hate side, Annie doesn't hesitate to show her disdain towards Ami and even physically abuses her several times in the earlier chapters. Ami is jealous of Annie being superior to her and because of all the abuse she's suffered by her, she even fantasizes killing her. On the Love side, in later chapters, it's clear that Annie has become nicer and a little caring towards her sister. It starts out small (giving Ami 3 months to live after she chooses to abandon the mission), but she begins to defend her more from Reiner, who wants to kill her for betraying them, gives Ami her medication after she loses the pills, and even promises to not force her to kill any more people. Ami shows the love for her sister by returning to their side in response to this unexpected affection and it looks like their relationship is changing for the better. Shame it couldn't last.
- Running Gag: Every chapter is phrased like a question.
- Sanity Slippage: If it wasn't for her medication, Ami would've completely lost it a long time ago, and even that's debatable.
- Shout-Out: In an effort to get Ami to laugh, Eren does an over-the-top yell of "TITANS!!" Kind of like a certain version of Eren we know of that likes to do that whenever Titans are around.
- The moment where Ami is stabbed by Reiner and starts laughing in response is similar to what happened to Raiden in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
- Slasher Smile: Ami does this from time to time, even on medication, but the most notable moment is when she gives one to Bertholdt after he makes a hole in Wall Rose. Yeah, his days are numbered.
- Thanks for the Mammary: When Ami attacks Eren after he presses her Berserk Button, he tries pushing her off of him and accidentally grabs her chest in the process. Fortunately for him, she doesn't continue to hurt him.
