- Only Sane Man: Misty is the only character with any common sense and general logic in this series.

- Adaptational Jerkass: In canon, Brock was a nice guy who cared for Ash and Misty throughout their Pokémon and his passion for breeding came from a place of nurturing. Here, Brock is creepily attached to Ash, he flat out does not respect Misty, and his passion for breeding Pokémon comes from a place of degeneracy.
- Adaptation Name Change: Brock has no surname in canon. Here, his surname is revealed to be "Harrison" in episode 14.
- Berserk Button: Being called "lazy".
Delia Ketchum

- Adaptational Jerkass: In canon, Delian was a caring mother who supported Ash's dream to become a Pokémon Master. Here, she has a history of putting Ash through abuse and neglect before kicking him out in the first episode.
