Dave
Dave
Played By: Evan Handler
Hurley's imaginary friend, which he hallucinated while an inmate at the Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute. Hurley saw Dave again while on the Island, a setback in his battle against mental illness.
- Bald of Evil: He's as bald as Evan Handler, and while he isn't blatantly evil, he's a Toxic Friend Influence to Hurley.
- Deadpan Snarker: He's Hurley's Imaginary Friend, after all.
- Imaginary Friend: For Hurley, who doesn't realize it until he's shown evidence. After an incident with a deck collapse, Hurley imagined Dave while in the Mental Health Institute.
- Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: His appearance on-island is this both in-universe and out. The writers have conflicting reports over whether Dave was a genuine hallucination of Hurley or the Man in Black trying to off a candidate by encouraging him to commit suicide.
- Meaningful Name: It's certainly no coincidence that Hurley named his Imaginary Friend after his father.
- Toxic Friend Influence: To Hurley, and an imaginary toxic friend at that. He represents all of Hurley's self-destructive and damaging behavior; he encourages him to overeat, to not take his pills, and go on an ill-advised escape attempt (which Hurley, thankfully, refuses).
Johnny
Johnny
Played By: DJ Qualls
A friend and co-worker of Hurley's at Mr. Cluck's.
- Deadpan Snarker: He's friends with Hurley, after all.
- Fat and Skinny: He's the skinny to Hurley's fat.
Starla
Starla
Played By: Marguerite Moreau
An assistant at a music store Hurley frequently visited. Hurley was attracted to her for a long time but did not act on his feelings until the day after he won the lottery.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She seems like a Nice Girl in her introduction, but it's later revealed she ran off with Johnny while dating Hurley.
Lynn Karnoff
Lynn Karnoff
Played By: Suzanne Krull
A woman who posed as a fortune-teller to Hurley.
- Con Woman: Like pretty much all fortune tellers, she's just trying to con people out of money.
- Only in It for the Money: She rats out David Reyes pretty much instantly when Hurley offers her more cash to tell the truth.
- Phony Psychic: And paid by David to trick Hurley.
Martha Toomey
Martha Toomey
Played By: Jayne Taini
The widow of Sam Toomey.
- Agent Scully: Even after everything that's happened to her, she refuses to believe there's a curse associated with the Numbers.Martha: Curse? There's no curse.Hurley: But you just told me...Martha: You think I'd still have my leg if Sam hadn't have picked the right number of beans?! You think that floods wouldn't have happened?! That homes wouldn't have burned down?! That people wouldn't have died?!Hurley: Well, yeah.Martha: You make your own luck, Mr. Reyes. Don't blame it on the damn numbers. You're looking for an excuse that doesn't exist.
- An Arm and a Leg: She lost her leg in a car accident.
