Shimura
- Corporate Samurai: He eventually becomes the bodyguard and lover of Amber Taoka, the head of the Taoka Corporation in spite of the fact that he killed her father.
- Good Scars, Evil Scars: Has a prominent scar over his right eye that we eventually discover was from an encounter with Stan "Deathfist" Lee.
- Important Haircut: When he's first introduced as a Hondo City judge, he sports a typical Samurai ponytail. When he turns Rōnin, his head is shaved.
- Katanas Are Just Better: Since he was part of Hondo City's Justice Department before they upgraded to Laser Blades, Shimura is fond of katanas and is able to take down cybernetic killing machines using them.
- Master Swordsman: He's an incredibly skilled swordsman, able to take on cyborgs with a katana.
- Rock Beats Laser: He has no problem killing heavily enhanced cyborgs using a simple katana. He takes one out by using their Super-Speed against them, decapitation them when they're distracted dragged Aiko Inaba around. Another blocks his blow with a katana, mocking this trope calling his weapon outmoded, only for Shimura to stab him with the wakizashi in his off hand.
- Rōnin: Since Hondo City's Judges are Samurai with a Shogun for a Chief Judge, Shimura is considered a ronin after turning Vigilante Man in frustration with the corruption in the department.
Aiko Inaba
- Action Girl: The first woman to become a Hondo City Judge, she definitely qualifies.
- Breaking the Glass Ceiling: She's the first female Judge-Inspector in the Hondo City Justice Department. It took until 2113 for this to happen and many among the old guard resent her and her mentor, Shimura, for her being on the streets. The powers that be try to get Shimura to compromise and recommend her to be placed in Operations, effectively a desk job, rather than be put on the streets. Even when she has proven herself in her on street assessment, she still faces rampant sexism from her superiors and peers.
