One poor man cannot topple greedy businessmen's fortunes, you say? Well, these moments from the Kaiji Series' various games will prove you utterly wrong.
Kaiji: The Ultimate Gambler
- Tonegawa's E-Card defeat at the hands of Kaiji. Yes, those of you who read the manga or watched the anime saw this coming, but what the movie does makes this moment amazing. When Kaiji thanks Tonegawa for doing what he did, he smashes his Slave card on the table, showing him just how much Tonegawa screwed up. Those in the room realise what just happened, cutting to Kaiji's Slave card and Tonegawa's Emperor card... and then Yugo Kanno's triumphant main theme plays out in full force note , as the watching underground labour workers cheer. Even Taro can only walk away in disgust over this. Cue one of the most satisfying "The Reason You Suck" speeches Kaiji has given to an opponent, which has to be quoted entirely for it's pure carthesis delivered to the audience.Endo: He did it. But how?
[Tonegawa hurriedly looks over the playing field, trying to speak.]
Tonegawa: A Slave, why? Didn't you swap it before the blood sprayed on it?
Kaiji: Sorry, but no. All I did was... pull the face down Citizen and Slave cards close to me, then put a Citizen card over one, only to pull it back. In other words, I only pretended to swap.
Endo: He didn't swap them?
Tonegawa: Impossible! HOW COULD THIS BE POSSIBLE? WHY... WHY DIDN'T YOU SWAP THEM? (Bats some of the cards away from the table)
Kaiji: That's easy. Because I had faith.
Tonegawa: (Shaken) Faith?
Kaiji: Clearly, you're brilliant. Out of anyone I've ever met, you have the sharpest mind. A man like you... (Holds up one of the blood-stained cards) would never fail to notice this blood. Of course you'd notice. And when you do, you'd be suspicious. You'd scrutinise it, realise it's a scheme and see through my plan. (Slams card on the table and stands up, getting close to Tonegawa's face) YOU HAVE TO, BECAUSE YOU'RE SMART! That's why you'd be suspicious, and would recall how I'd swapped cards on the ship, and that I had the chance here. Then you'd snicker... how foolish I am. You'd be completely convinced. And why not? After all, your opponent is trash compared to someone like you. TRASH! You'd gloat. Because you're superior. NO TRASH HAS EVER COME CLOSE TO BEATING YOU. SO I USED YOUR ARROGANT SUPERIORITY AGAINST YOU! AND THIS PATHETIC SLAVE BEAT YOU! I won. I won, damn it! GIVE ME 500 MILLION!
- Ichizo tries to mess with 'The Swamp' after realising Kaiji's water tank strategy to equalise the building's tilt. Cue the entire watching crowd going after Ichizo, with Sakazaki shoving him away from the machine and reprimanding him for attempting to break the rules.
- When a black suit tries to grab Tonegawa, the latter pushes the former back so hard that he crashes into a pile of trays! The best part is that he doesn't suffer any punishment for this.
- Victory against 'The Swamp' is inevitable for Kaiji's gang, so Ichizo desperately tries to accept Kaiji's initial offer for a tie, on the condition that he leave his friends behind. Kaiji, being the compassionate man that he is, can only mutter how sorry he feels for this cowardly man, and remind him that he is not doing this for himself, but rather for his friends. And because of that, he knows that their support will be enough to finally defeat 'The Swamp'. That says a lot about Kaiji's growth, ever since he only joined the Teiai Corporation's competitions to pay off his debt.
