Awesome / Hardcore Henry

  • After falling off a bridge at the start of the film, Henry hides in a storage tank and improvises his first weapon: a car windshield wiper. He uses as a shiv, then starts the car to plow out of the storage tank. The action just gets better from there.
  • The entire brothel shootout, Nerdy!Jimmy just fixed Henry's battery, realizes Akan's henchmen are there, goes back to his Hookers and Blow body, does a load of coke, grabs a pair of revolvers and enthusiastically declares "THIS IS FUCKING WAR BABY". Cue Awesome Music and a chaotic gunfight.
  • Henry and Jimmy plowing through a van of mooks, back to front, with a motorcycle and a minigun.
  • Henry with a sword vs. a tank. Of course Henry wins.
  • Henry and the Jimmy clones fighting back against the mercs storming the abandoned building.
  • The end of the abovementioned fight. One of the bad guys boasts about having invaded Jimmy's home. Jimmy plays it cool.
Yuri: A broken home for a broken man.
Jimmy: Cпасибо, Yuri... My quarters are actually up there. Would you like to see them?
    Yuri: Oh, we will.
    Jimmy: Indeed.
Jimmy:*detonates the bomb and drops the entire last floor on Yuri and his army*
  • Henry finds three dirty cops attempting to rape a woman. He gets there in the nick of time and beats up the first two cops, and then squeezes the rapist's nuts like grapes until they burst before finishing him off by shoving a baton down his throat. Jimmy then shows up and finishes the other two cops.
  • This movie's equivalent of the Burly Brawl: a lone unarmed Henry vs an army of Combat Cyborgs programmed with his fighting skills and memories. It is a setpiece akin to Neo's fight against an army of Smith clones, and increases in intensity as the fight goes on with them literally EVERYWHERE and Henry finding ever more brutally pragmatic ways to kill....and then after an explosion, it becomes a fight against what is practically an army of cyborg zombies. Then he finds some syringes full of liquid adrenaline, shoots them both into his thighs, and a particular Queen song begins to play...
  • When it seems for all the world that Akan has defeated Henry, we get the most awe-inspiring shot of the film; Henry's eyes staring back at himself in a shattered and blood-soaked piece of glass. For a film that flaunts its pioneering of first-person perspective film-making, it only seems fitting that the most impactful shot is one where we see our POV character's face.
  • The ending: Henry finally gets close enough to attack Akan and wipe that smug smirk off his face. He severs the top half of Akan's head with his own eye stalk, and then confronts Estelle in the chopper. She shoots at him, only for the bullet to ricochet off his robot hand and hit her. She stumbles out of the chopper and pleads with Henry to listen to his heart. Henry's heart tells him to shut the door on her fingers and let her fall to her death. Cut to credits.
  • Before Hardcore Henry, director and writer Ilya Naishuller directed a pair of music videos for rock band Biting Elbows using the first-person action style and techniques the film would later use: The Stampede and Bad Motherfucker. The latter video managed to rack up over 32 million views on YouTube alone, with Samuel L. Jackson and Darren Aronofsky voicing their approval of it. The popularity and positive reception of Bad Motherfucker was the inspiration for Naishuller to take the concept into a feature film.
