* CompleteMonster: Tsukuyomi. Other villains in this series have at least somewhat good reasons for doing the things they do, Tsukuyomi just wants to kill people and rape Setsuna. Nothing else matters to her.

* ExecutiveMeddling: Almost a beneficial example. The executives wanted another Harem Comedy, while Akamatsu wanted to make a shounen manga. Thus, the end result is ''LoveHina'' meets ''Franchise/HarryPotter'' meets ''DragonballZ'', and perhaps one of the most awesome works ever.

* XMeetsY: Described somewhat deprecatingly as "''Franchise/HarryPotter'' meets ''LoveHina''" when it first appeared. But mid-early way through, it shifted more to "''HunterXHunter'' meets ''LoveHina'' with magic". Since the start of the Magic World arc, it gradually became a bit more like "''Franchise/HarryPotter'' meets ''FinalFantasyTactics'' with Bonus FanService" -- only later to have some ''DragonBall'' thrown into the mix.

* MoeMoe: The series in general, especially in regards to the female characters.

** The StealthSequel to ''[[Manga/MahouSenseiNegima Mahou Sensei Negima!]]'', ''[[Manga/UQHolder UQ Holder]]'' tries to undo the damage by revealing that the [[spoiler: Lifemaker/Mage of the Beginning]] was not definitively defeated, and [[spoiler: Negi and Ala Alba]] have been fighting him for several decades, plus the more recent revelation that [[spoiler: the Lifemaker has defeated and capture both Negi and Nagi]]. That said, AntiClimaxBoss still applies because after all the plot buildup, fighting, and the anticipation of fans who had been following ''Negima'' for who knows how many chapters and years, the above is what happened.

** The Mundus Magicus arc, itself seems to have a Broken Base too. Some fans believe it is the most exciting and interesting arc of the Manga while others believe it is when the series JumpedTheShark and became too convoluted for its own good due to the GenreShift, and how it reduces Ala Alba to WeAreTeamCannonFodder, by solely giving Negi the spotlight in battles and the rest of Ala Alba having InformedAbility.

* JumpingTheShark: Although KenAkamatsu ended the the series due to ExecutiveMeddling, it's hard to see how he could have continued the series--having [[spoiler: a ''ten year old'' leading a terraforming operation on Mars]] is about as high as you can take this trope. We know that Negi is smart, but come on, there's a limit.

** To some fans Negi is this. They consider him a dull protagonist with little CharacterDevelopment, mostly due to having probably one of the worst cases of AesopAmnesia in shonen history.
** Some fans don't exactly like Fate because of both his [[TheStoic emotionless personality]] and the fact that [[MoralEventHorizon he had tried to kill Negi with a stone spear through the back]]. Even after all of the crap that Fate had put Negi and the others through in the Magic World, he doesn't suffer any karmic backlash for his actions in the end and that Negi eventually befriends him, making Fate a KarmaHoudini to some fans who found his HeelFaceTurn unbelievable and unsatisfying. Adding more fuel to this is when he becomes a substitute teacher for 3-A while Negi works on his plan to save the Magic World, with him basically becoming a male version of [[Manga/LoveHina Kanako Urashima]] to some readers.

* ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontWatch: The series has a lot of people who believe that the series is nothing more than a Shotacon ''LoveHina'' with magic. Although it takes a bit of time to do so, the series does get quite Shoneny for later chapters, though the Harem feel ''is'' prevalent throughout the work.

** [[ElegantGothLolita Evangeline]] counts as well, whether she's in her [[TheVamp adult form]] or her default child form.

* CreepyCute: Chachazero often falls into this, since her psychotic tendencies are entirely played for laughs. And she has miniature sized wine bottles [[OddFrendship that she drinks with Chamo]] − whether she can actually drink is anyone's guess.

* FanDumb:
** [[spoiler: "How dare Zazie oppose Negi and show him what CE is about! [[TheScrappy Whore, bitch, slut, skank!]] Let's brand her as a monster before she even has a chance to explain herself! ... Oh wait. Sorry, Zazie".]]
** The upcoming series finale seems to be causing this as well, with some outraged fans wishing (hopefully not seriously) death upon the author. While there may be reason to be disappointed, its gotten a bit extreme.

* DesignatedProtagonistSyndrome:
** Depending on your perspective, most of the cast may fall under this. Most of them are just people who are just thrown into this world of magic, some are very excited at first, but seem to lose the hype after a few chapters. Especially since, as some characters have noted, they have nothing to do with the magic world and are involving themselves for the hell of it, that and their main purpose seems to be so that they become walking DiabolusExMachina, just so as to make Negi's life a bigger mess than it already is by getting in danger without obviously thinking of the consequences and to be TheLoad for a large portion of the story.
** Negi himself is subject to this because many of the secondary characters around him are considered more fun to watch either because they are HotBlooded or have interesting back stories which are never elaborated upon, it seems that KenAkamatsu is trying his best to avert this trope by giving Negi a DarkAndTroubledPast, (annoyingly being the only character who gets a flashback sequence, while the rest of the casts are at best casually mentioned), making him the son of the WorldsStrongestMan, [[spoiler: he's of royal decent and descendant of a PhysicalGod]]. At best he comes of as an interesting aversion to an IdiotHero protagonist, but at worst he seem to be a very strong BlackHoleSue.
** Some of the few characters in the cast that can be said to avoid being this are; Setsuna, Kaede, Asuna and Kotaro. Especially due to the fact that they suffer from OutofFocus (though Setsuna not as bad as the others) in the Mundus Magicus arc.

** [[spoiler: Negi seems to cross it too with his plan to save Mundus Magicus, which involves Asuna sleeping for 100 years. Mind you we don't hear the specifics, since the series ended and all. But it was still Negi's plan it can lead to some seeing Negi as a MagnificentBastard.]]

** According to WordOfGod, Madoka's involvement in Ako's first DayInTheLimelight arc boosted her popularity, and we should expect to see more of her in the future.
