Added DiffLines:

* EventObscuringCamera: Some fights against gigantic bosses are made more challenging because of the camera angles, especially when you're locked-on. It's more prevalent in this game than in the previous games because the camera here would always face and focus on the boss, so your character can be off-screen when fighting Nidhogg, or the camera would look down when you're jumping near [[spoiler:Urizen during his third boss fight]].

** Not everyone realizes that the memes about Vergil sitting in a white plastic chair near the edge of the arena are all due to a [[GameMod mod]]; in the actual game, he sits in a black demonic chair connected to the Qliphoth. On websites like Website/{{Reddit}}, some newcomers even admitted that they thought the white plastic chair scene was "canon", only to be corrected by veterans saying that it's in fact, a simple fan-made model swap that has gone viral.

* BetterThanCanon: A musical example. During the backlash against "Subhuman", fans were desperate to find a song to replace it in-game while still fitting Dante.
** While some suggested giving him "Devil Trigger" and others suggested just giving him an old song as they did with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84jrCjX022Y "Lock and Load"]] in ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry4'', the song [[https://youtu.be/FuEZyCRaos4 "Armageddon (Entropy Zero Remix)"]] by Blue Stahli was put forth as a possible replacement, [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DevilMayCry/comments/9x4hin/when_the_musical_choice_is_just_right_based_on/ and the fanbase]] [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DevilMayCry/comments/9oq26i/people_really_want_this_song_as_the_official/ unanimously adored the song]], finding it more fitting for Dante's character and even coincidentally matching up with some of the ideas presented in the game, along with being a faster song that fitted the previous style of the series' music. It got to the point that the fanbase was essentially pleading for the song to replace "Subhuman" on Website/{{Reddit}} and on any Website/YouTube video with the song. Even when "Subhuman" remained as Dante's theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSyD1svikBM&t=85s the song was one of the first songs]] [[https://www.nexusmods.com/devilmaycry5/mods/228 to be modded into the game]] for those that really wanted it. The top comment on [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEPSIrgMFAA a video demonstrating how the song would work in-game]] is none other than the remix's composer showing enthusiasm for the idea.
--->'''[[https://www.youtube.com/user/Maks261092/featured I Am Maks SF:]]''' Unholy hell! One more awesome usage of my remix! Thanks for support \m/
** A second replacement idea for "Subhuman" came in the form of [=LittleVMills=]' [[https://youtu.be/jsaeNKrL8nE cover]] of the song, which has much more ''Devil May Cry''-esque gravelly vocals while retaining the general melody. He also redid the chorus, making it more melodic and fast-paced to fit Dante's insane gameplay. There are countless fans of this cover and videos of it edited over ''[=DMC5=]'' gameplay.

Turns out some Low Tier Letdown examples I recently moved actually fit better under the more-specific Scrappy Weapon.

* LowTierLetdown:
** Compared to the Devil Sword Sparda and [[spoiler:Devil Sword Dante]], there is no real reason to use Rebellion anymore outside of personal preference, for a SelfImposedChallenge, or its [[ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks Round Trip]] for limited combo potential, as the Sparda deals increased damage and has a further-reaching Round Trip while the [[spoiler:Devil Sword Dante]] has everything the other two swords have along with some attacks as powerful as the Sparda and an additional five moves unique to the weapon. It's a shame considering this is Dante's personal IconicItem.
** On Nero's side of things, the Buster Arm Devil Breaker is sometimes considered underwhelming by some fans due to its redundancy with another feature, claiming that it doesn't offer him any additional movement options and its Break Age is simply an enhanced, less-interruptible Buster attack ([[spoiler:a move he'll eventually be able to use even without a Devil Breaker]]). What this overlooks however, is that the Break Age version of the Buster does greatly boosted damage compared to the normal version, making it an excellent way to deal massive damage to stunned bosses or [[DemonicSpider Furies]], meaning it still retains its usefulness once [[spoiler: Nero regains the Devil Bringer]].

Citation need it for this trope

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** For those who were put off by ''[=DmC=]'' entirely and feared that the classic continuity would be shelved and LeftHanging, this game serves to bring back the characters, lore and style from the original games everyone knows and loves.
** Following the updated series timeline, ''5'' directly continuing the story after ''4'' is this for fans who grew weary of the classic games [[AnachronicOrder dancing around with prequels and interquels]].
** The game used to have Denuvo when it was newly released, but Capcom patched that out after players raised concerns about performance issues and framerate drops.
** Several criticisms from ''[=DMC4=]'' were alleviated or completely resolved in this game.
*** For some fans, one of the major criticisms of ''4'' was that Nero just wasn't as fun to play as because his moveset is relatively simple compared to Dante, who had dozens of options to deal with every situation thanks to having three weapons, three guns, and five styles to utilize at once, which he could rapidly swap in between by just pressing a button. This time around, Nero's been given a lot more variety in his moveset with the Devil Breaker, which can be outfitted to serve multiple varied roles, from a grappling hook to a [[TimeMaster time-stopping device]]. The result is that while Nero isn't fundamentally different from how he played in the previous game, whatever Devil Breaker the player brings with them into combat will significantly influence how he plays.
*** Conversely, Dante almost had ''too much stuff'' in ''4''. His ability to switch between Styles at the press of a button rendered him extremely overpowered, especially since the developers didn't design enough new enemies for him to fight against because of [[TroubledProduction time constraints]]. As a result, Nero's slower enemies in ''4'' were no match for a seasoned Dante player. And because Dante had so many weapons, there was also a [[DifficultButAwesome large technical learning curve]] to playing him that put him head and shoulders above the other playable characters. Here, Dante has several new features that make him balanced, such as the ability to pick how many Devil Arms and Guns you're bringing into a mission, enemies made specifically for him to take down, and other gameplay tweaks, all while not sacrificing the huge freedom of being able to instantly change Styles essential to his combo structure.
*** The constant {{backtracking}} between levels often made playing ''4'' confusing. ''5'' as a result [[ActionizedSequel is much more streamlined]], and even has a command[[note]]pressing down on the left control stick[[/note]] that points the player to where they have to go next.
*** The TroubledProduction of ''4'' caused many of its boss fights to be recycled at several points in the same playthrough, which made them feel stale because there's little to no variation on the next repeated fights. On the other hand, ''5'' has more unique boss fights, and most of the repeated bosses have additional gimmicks the next time they are fought, or are only fought twice in the same playthrough.
*** The Proud Soul currency system in ''4'' was [[BrokenBase divisive]], but criticisms mention how the player could only get them and buy upgrades at the end of a mission. ''5'' returned to the standard Red Orb method of the older games such as ''3'', allowing the player to buy upgrades during a mission. This is also seen as a response to the MoneyForNothing issue that plagued ''4'' and ''[=DmC=]'' which [[LaterInstallmentWeirdness use a different currency to purchase moves]], but downplayed the value of Red Orbs depending on the player's skill. Here, advanced players no longer worry about Red Orbs becoming "useless" in the end-game, thanks to Dante's Dr. Faust Devil Arm that [[CastFromMoney weaponizes the currency into powerful moves]].
*** The end-mission ranking system in ''4'' is considered a ScrappyMechanic because you have to juggle between finishing the level as quickly as possible and scrounging around to collect as many Red Orbs as possible if you want to get the S Rank. ''5'' no longer tracks completion time for its mission ranking system, allowing the player to explore the stage at their own leisure without worrying about their Mission Rank dropping.
*** After Credo's death in ''4'', Kyrie and Nero [[ForgottenFallenFriend didn't even mention or remember him in that game's ending]]. This was rather jarring for some fans. ''5'' however reveals that Credo's death is [[spoiler: Nero's MyGreatestFailure moment, serving as a catalyst for him unlocking his Devil Trigger and motivation to stop Dante and Vergil from killing each other]].
*** Dante spent all of ''4'' being a ShowyInvincibleHero and basically treated everything as a joke. For some fans, that game is where Dante encapsulates the "[[FanNickname Wacky Woohoo Pizza Man]]" nickname given to him for the worse. ''5'' however, takes a step back to his characterization in ''1'' and ''3'' where Dante is still cocky and disrespectful to most of his enemies, but knows when to take dire situations seriously. This game even opens with Urizen scoring a decisive victory against him, prompting an OhCrap moment from Dante. [[spoiler: In particular, his resolution of his half-demon heritage gives a new SadClown interpretation of Dante's behavior, and his attitude towards Vergil shows Dante being bloodthirsty in a completely new way - while spinning his familiar sarcasm and humor into a lot more venomous manner towards his recently revived twin]].
*** Lady was changed from an appropriately moody teenager with a ''slight'' tomboyish Catholic Schoolgirl-esque moe look (due to purple spandex shorts and her 'skirt' being made of ammo for her guns) in the [[VideoGame/DevilMayCry3DantesAwakening third game]] to... just another busty woman with a NavelDeepNeckline and flawless skin, having her dress less modestly than ''Trish'' in the [[VideoGame/DevilMayCry4 fourth game]]. Her minimal role in the fourth game's story didn't help either, so [[UnnecessaryMakeover fans were surprised]] at her ''[=DMC4=]'' role focusing more on {{Fanservice}} appeal. Fortunately, this is rectified in ''[[VideoGame/DevilMayCry5 DMC5]]'' where her proportions and clothing style return to what they originally were in the third game.
** Longtime fans who were disappointed when it seemed as if the game would take place entirely in urban environments were pleased when the TGS 2018 trailer revealed more bizarre locales that make the game to really feel more like the classic ''Devil May Cry'' games.
** After the ice-cold reception to Dante's initial theme, which was retained in his TGS 2018 trailer (albeit with the vocals toned down), the actual gameplay footage for Dante shows "Devil Trigger" playing during his combat (in the English version, while the Japanese version still had "Subhuman" audible). It was re-recorded with Michael Barr (of Music/{{Volumes}} fame) now providing the vocals, giving them a more DeathMetal sheen rather than Eddie Hermida's nigh-incomprehensible screams. The brief glimpse of the new version in the VGA trailer got warmer reactions than the original. Even those who remain completely unmoved regarding the song voiced gratitude that an action was taken at least, even if it wasn't the outcome they desired.
** After it was announced that [[BribingYourWayToVictory you could buy Red Orbs via microtransactions]], many fans were worried that the game would be balanced in a way that makes progression difficult without spending extra real world money. It was [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LQM8mDg8Ec#t=4m15s thankfully]] not long before it was [[https://twitter.com/retroOtoko/status/1043671090592022528 clarified]] that the player [[https://www.dualshockers.com/devil-may-cry-5-red-orbs-playing-normally/ still earns plenty of orbs through normal play,]] the system being implemented is [[https://twitter.com/retroOtoko/status/1043683991063224320 roughly identical]] in description to how it was done with ''[=4:SE=]''. One [[Website/{{Reddit}} Redditor]] even went as far to [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DevilMayCry/comments/9iagdc/an_in_dept_look_at_dmc4se_monetization_system_and/ break down the balance changes]] between ''4'' and ''[=4:SE=]'' to show the difference between both releases.
** After the announcement of the ''Special Edition'', the jubilance at all the new features were quickly replaced by concern that the only way to play the new content is to own a [[UsefulNotes/PlayStation5 PS5]] or an UsefulNotes/XboxSeriesX. The day afterwards, Capcom stated that playable [[spoiler:Vergil]] would be coming as DLC to the Xbox One, [[UsefulNotes/PlayStation5 PS4]] and PC ports as a paid content pack. That said, there's still a BrokenBase because Turbo Mode and Legendary Dark Knight mode won't be a part of the DLC.

Trying to salvage some Authors Saving Throw examples that were deleted from the series-wide YMMV.Devil May Cry page, as Authors Saving Throw is now Trivia that requires Word Of God and/or Word Of Saint Paul.

** With the [[UpdatedReRelease Special Edition]], Vergil's power is associated as the absurd cause of some external events, so there were jokes about him being so powerful, he's never playable in a vanilla version, or how he's so powerful he needs a next-generation console and a 10-minute song. However, these memes were mostly limited to text-based jokes and comments.

** With the [[UpdatedReRelease Special Edition]], Vergil's power is associated as the absurd cause of some events, bringing forth jokes like the following:
*** "Vergil is so OP, the vanilla version can't handle him" (Within the classic continuity, this is the third game wherein Vergil gets PromotedToPlayable only in the Special Edition of a ''DMC'' game. Additionally, Vergil was only playable post-launch for ''[=DmC=]'' and ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3''. Fans have noticed some sort of [[RunningGag trend]] with Vergil and Special Editions so they did not let it slide).
*** "Vergil is so OP, he needed a next-generation console" (The Special Edition of this game, which includes playable Vergil, is released as a launch title of the UsefulNotes/PlayStation5).
*** "Vergil is so OP, he has a 10-minute song" (Vergil's {{Leitmotif}}[=/=]ImageSong, "Bury the Light", is nearly 10 minutes long, a length that is rare for video game music).

** Unlike the previous games, Gold Orbs are no longer {{cap}}ped to three and can be acquired for free just by [[PlayEveryDay logging in daily]], so dying over and over isn't a problem if you've stockpiled a lot of Gold Orbs beforehand. If you ran out of Gold Orbs, you can still revive if you farmed a lot of spare Red Orbs. The game tries to discourage you from abusing the Red Orb revival methods because their prices go up for each consecutive revive, much more so on higher difficulties. However, picking the most expensive Red Orb revival choice also deals significant damage to the enemies aside from refilling your entire health bar. By just having a lot of spare Red Orbs, this feature has been used to cheese even the hardest boss fights.

** Mission 13, "Three Warriors". Coming right after the lengthy puzzle, exploration, and Urizen boss fight segments in Mission 12, this mission lets you freely choose among the playable characters in order to re-acclimate yourself with their gameplay before tackling on the three lengthy character-specific missions and boss fights after it. This can also be the shortest mission overall because the player can just ignore the enemies and focus on destroying the Qliphoth Blood Clots instead to descend as quickly as possible.

** Several plot points not mentioned in the previous games are only briefly brought up in the Library section of this game (e.g. how Nero and Kyrie met Nico, or how Dante already has Balrog equipped from the start of this game's story). These are actually covered in greater detail by the ''Before the Nightmare'' {{prequel}} LightNovel. Unfortunately, the novel was [[NoExportForYou never released outside of Japan]], so the rest of the fanbase had to wait for translations in order to fully understand what's going on with the timeline. And as pointed out by [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HQq6_i05jg this video]], the novel explains how the nearly decades-long "ART WARKS" spelling mistake on Dante's Ebony & Ivory handguns finally got fixed to "ART WORKS", which is reflected by the guns' updated in-game models. Missing out on this detail from the novel can cause the player to believe that the misspelling was "magically fixed" out of nowhere when there's actually an in-universe justification for the change.

Up To Eleven is a defunct trope

** Much like in ''4'', Nero's battle theme ("Devil Trigger") is pretty easy to misinterpret. Taken UpToEleven with its [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12sbvLF1obI "Tropical Devil Night Remix"]] which makes the entire song itself sound like porn music. While the lyrics below are sadly missing from this version, "[[ADateWithRosiePalms Gotta let it out, Gotta let it out]]" and other questionable lines are still intact.

* DemonicSpiders: The Fury. Unlike its {{Teleport Spam}}ming cousin Blitz from ''4'', it doesn't have an electrical barrier to prevent you from attacking it, but its Teleport Spam is cranked UpToEleven especially when it TurnsRed. In addition, its attacks pack quite a punch. Good luck in dodging its attacks and hitting it back, especially with Nero and V who have limited evasion options compared to Dante.
