Summer's 'hostility' towards Raven is clearly bitterness towards Raven leaving her, Ruby and Yang. Something that can ALSO be read as them having been in a relationship.

* Summer/Raven: Ruby's flashback/vision in Volume 9 reveals that Summer and Raven were ''surprisingly'' close. Summer apparently trusted ''only'' Raven to help on her secret mission. Meanwhile Raven is not only in an uncharacteristically good mood to see Summer, but both her joking, awkwardness around Summer and general body language very much [[LikeMotherLikeDaughter parallel Yang's awkward but earnest flirting with Blake.]] In the present, it's also notable that Raven seems all too happy to criticize, mock and generally bad-mouth the likes of Ozpin, Qrow, Tai and even Yang, yet curiously has nothing bad to say about ''Summer'', and only mentions her in an extremely restrained compliment that Ruby sounds much like her. Although it should be noted that Summer acts rather hostile towards Raven for abandoning Yang.

* Maria/Tock: While Maria doesn't put up with it, Tock acts in a semi-flirtatious manner when meeting the former, complimenting the power that her silver eyes grant her before adding that having silver eyes makes her a target, and calling her "love". After blinding Maria, Tock notes that her master ordered her to kill Maria on the basis that she's a silver-eyed warrior, but offers to spare Maria since Tock already cut her eyes out. When Maria initially ineffectually tries to shoot at Tock despite being blinded, the latter [[YouGotSpunk respects]] that and calls Maria a fighter to the end.

* Qrow/Clover: Qrow gains a foil in the form of Clover Ebi, who exudes good luck in contrast to Qrow's bad. When the two are paired together on a mission, Clover catches Qrow when he trips, and later explains the complementary nature of their Semblances, winking at Qrow while saying "Lucky you" in a CallBack to the waitress who'd upgraded Qrow's drink in volume 4. And Qrow looks ambiguously hesitant and vulnerable afterward. And in "Sparks", Clover praises Qrow on helping the kids get to where they are and doesn't let Qrow get away with deflecting the compliment, with Qrow again seeming vulnerable and acting embarrassed before Ruby interrupts them. The most glaring example is in "Cordially Invited" just as Clover is leaving with Ironwood for a meeting with Jacques, he turns to Qrow and jokingly says "Wish us luck." Qrow's response is downright flirtatious when he says "I mean, they already invited you, didn’t they?" to Clover's amusement. In "As Above, So Below", Clover once again winks and salutes Qrow as he falls off the ship, which prompts a laugh and a fond "Showoff." from Qrow. And in "With Friends Like These", Qrow is driven into a rage once Tyrian stabs Clover, screaming that he will kill Tyrian before collapsing beside Clover and swearing that Ironwood will pay for causing it to happen. Clover gently wishes Qrow luck just before he dies, and once he's gone Qrow lets out a SkywardScream with tears running down his face.

* Jaune/Tyrian: Tyrian seems to have some interest in Jaune. When Tyrian gets his first face-to-face after hopping onto Jaune's shield in the middle of a fight, he pauses to look at Jaune closely with apparent and unsettling, interest and even woohoos in delight before resuming fight. When asked about his motives, he dismisses Nora and Ren as not mattering to him, but when it's Jaune's turn he pauses and admits that actually he's interested in him, before resuming talking about his main goal; Ruby.

* Ruby and Weiss are a case of opposites attract. When they first meet, Ruby is mortified by her clumsiness and wants nothing more than to make up with Weiss, who is persistently annoyed with Ruby's antics. In the forest, Weiss doesn't think twice about rescuing Ruby from the fire they accidentally start. Although they fight like a married couple, Ruby is happy that Weiss accepted they were team-mates, and when Weiss rescues her again from the Deathstalker, Ruby is thrilled that Weiss offers a truce and the chance to try and work together. While they fall out over Ruby being anointed leader, they quickly make up when Weiss brings Ruby coffee, tells her she believes her and promises to be the best teammate ever. Ruby is left with a huge grin on her face and after that Weiss becomes [[DefrostingIceQueen much warmer and more loyal]].

* In the Volume 6 finale, when people ask what Ruby's plan is to deal with the Levaithan, Weiss is the first person Ruby looks to. When Ruby needs to activate her power and begins thinking of happy memories, Weiss is the first ''solo'' person Ruby thinks about after going through happy memories of their team as a group; an intimate point-of-view memory of when Weiss promised to be her best teammate back in Volume 1. As the Volume closes out, Ruby immediately notices that Weiss appears to be troubled by something.

If it's genuinely in the show, it wouldn't be Ho Yay. And the entry admits that Qrow is feverishly recalling a past conversation about one of Tai's wives not returning home to him, which is Shipping Goggles. Added this to the post as well (see link below).

* Qrow/Taiyang: Subtly played between Qrow and Taiyang at different points. When Port and Oobleck are spending some downtime at Taiyang's cabin, they're discussing the Branwen twins' school antics. Port makes a comment regarding Tai's interest in Raven, but jokingly phrases it in such a way that hinted Tai may have been interested in both twins. When Qrow is in a poison induced stupor, he weakly calls out for Tai, and ''only'' Tai, stating that "she isn't coming back" (whether this is referencing Summer or Raven is unclear). His Amity Arena bio specifically states that one of the things that kept him going after Summer's death was "cheering on Tai from afar", showing that Qrow still cares deeply about him despite their strained relationship.

* Qrow/Hazel: When Hazel tears off his jacket in "Vault of the Spring Maiden", it cuts to Qrow widening his eyes, raising an eyebrow, and generally looking stunned. The implication is that he's baffled and a little worried about what Hazel's doing, but it's easy to read it as DistractedByTheSexy, especially with the [[HeadTiltinglyKinky head tilt]] he does and the fact that he's watching [[ItMakesSenseInContext a very muscular man tearing his clothes off]].

* Qrow/Ironwood: Ironwood and Qrow's interactions while working under Ozpin sometimes come off as sheer BelligerentSexualTension, as they look for any opportunity to bicker at each other. Near the end of volume 3, though, it turns out their relationship is actually quite good and friendly outside their work, both are confirmed to think very highly of each other and actually like each other. Ironwood tries to minimize any damage he might do to Qrow while defending himself when he thinks Qrow will attack him, but as it turns out, Qrow actually runs past him in order to save him from a Griffin. After that, he states in a very soft and friendly tone that he believes Ironwood would never do something bad. As it turns out, "Jimmy" is also Qrow's AffectionateNickname for Ironwood, not just a way to pick fun at him. In "A New Approach", Ironwood stops Qrow as he's leaving and tells him that he ''is'' genuinely glad to see him, and gives him a hug. And not a ManHug, either - a full hug with them pressed against each other.

* Ruby/Blake: When Blake is about to be killed by the Apathy Grimm in Volume 6 Episode 6, it causes Ruby's silver eyes to briefly activate when she calls for her desperately. While Ruby and Blake have had very little one-on-one interaction, Volume 6 has repeatedly shown Blake to be just as protective of Ruby as Weiss and Yang are. She is just as threatening to Qrow and Ozpin in Episode 2, and in Episode 6, Ruby's scream of terror knocks Blake out of her apathy-haze just as quickly as it does Weiss and Yang.

* Coco/Emerald: Before their fight, Coco actually openly looks Emerald up and down and compliments her outfit. She later says "Oh, I ''like'' her" in a very appreciative tone.

Removing Shipping Goggles and a load of incredibly inaccurate information about what really happened in these scenes (for example, Ruby turning to Weiss, or calling her, when she's actually the battlefield coordinator and therefore calls people as she needs their abilities; being sheepish when she gives someone a misleading order; the first individuals she thinks of being Penny and Pyrrha, before her second attempt being to think of her team in order (team, W, B, Y, team); Weiss taking a sudden step forward, which alerts the only people in camera shot who can see her — Ruby and the audience simultaneously. And so on. Remember, Shipping Goggles (such as twisting or misrepresenting scenes) is misuse of Ho Yay.

* During Volume 6 Episode 10, the only character Weiss contacts is Ruby when the plan is going awry. Ruby later calls in that "[she] needs [Weiss] on the ground" for the fight against the giant robot.
* Volume 6 Episode 11 contains a lot of focus on Ruby and Weiss in particular during the battle with Cordovin's mech. Beginning with Ruby sniping a missile out of the air, looking absolutely ''pissed'' at the attempt on Weiss' life. After Weiss lands and saves the group from an ice-blast, the camera then focuses on her standing beside Ruby as they plan their counterattack. When Weiss asks Ruby about needing her on the ground, Ruby acts bashful. Once the battle's started, Weiss freezes part of the sea below the cliffs after Ruby falls from above, giving the two platforms to reach the mech together. When Ruby lands on top of the machine, only to then fall, she's saved by Weiss riding on her Lancer summon. When they fly around to pick up Qrow and Ren from the robot's back, Ruby can be seen sitting flush up against Weiss with her arms around her waist.

* During Volume 6 Episode 12, Weiss does not voice her concerns like Qrow, but she can be seen looking constantly distressed as Ruby puts herself in extreme danger to stop Cordovin's mech. After Ruby manages to succeed in stopping the mech, Weiss uses her glyphs to help slow and direct a falling Ruby so Qrow can safely catch her, pushing herself to the point of exhaustion.

* During In Volume 6 Episode 10, the only character Weiss contacts is Ruby when the plan is going awry.
When
11, Ruby lands on top of the machine, mecha, only to then fall, fall; she's saved by Weiss riding on her Lancer summon. When they fly around to pick up Qrow and Ren from the robot's back, Ruby can be seen sitting flush up against Weiss with her arms around her waist.

Okay, there's audience reaction, and then there's completely misrepresenting a scene. (The Beacon picture is the show's iconic shot of the school entrance, which is how the school is always depicted; Ruby moves to the near-death character, but is never shown to struggle to leave her side; the letter narration misrepresents the fact that Weiss's courage to leave allowed her to witness a stunning tundra sunset she would never have otherwise seen; no-one protects Ruby from Ozpin, but they do pull their weapons on Ruby's own uncle for no valid reason (leaving her looking horrified) that scene caused a lot of (often controversial) reactions in the fandom but Ho Yay wasn't one of them; When Ruby focusses on the people she cares about for Maria, she doesn't focus on Weiss to Yang's detriment, the images are just cycling through in team order (Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Yang, team shot); the story reference is speculative troping).

* During the after party of Weiss' concert to raise money and boost the image of the Schnee Dust Company, Weiss takes an interest in the picture of Beacon which also happens to be a picture of the exact place where she and Ruby first met. The painting's depiction of leaves flying off the red trees lining the pathway even resembles scattering rose petals.
* When Ruby is dictating her letter to Yang in the finale, the scene cuts to Weiss flying away from Atlas as Ruby's narration talks about looking forward to the beauty life has to offer.
* After Ruby rushes over to an injured Weiss, despite seeing Oscar and Yang in danger, she has trouble tearing herself away from Weiss’s side, and gets ''mad'' after she rejoins the fight.
* Following the final battle of Volume 5, Ruby falls to her knees and Weiss rushes to hold her steady. She remains holding Ruby for a while after that.

* In Volume 6 Episode 2, Weiss appeared to be the most aggressive in protecting Ruby when Ozpin wishes to stop Ruby from asking the Relic of Knowledge. While both Blake and Yang were prepared to defend Ruby, Weiss points her rapier at Qrow's chest. After Ruby asks her question and Team RWBY appear to be 'separated', Ruby calls out for Weiss first before calling out for Yang while Weiss ''only'' calls out for Ruby not once but twice.
* In Volume 6 Episode 5, when Ruby has finished seeing Blake and Yang out the door, she turns to see Weiss waiting for her, having left the comfort of the fire despite seeming extremely cold. She then suggests the two look for food together, which seems to help cheer Weiss up a little bit. When Ruby suggests that they look for some food, Weiss looks briefly disappointed, giving the impression that she might have been hoping for [[SecurityCling something else]] [[CuddleBug from Ruby]]. This episode also showcases a clear distinction between the current state of their partnership in comparison to Blake and Yang. While Yang was reluctant to spend time alone with Blake, Weiss wanted to be by Ruby's side, and Ruby was happy to bring her along to search for food. While things in this episode ended on a sour note for Yang and Blake, Weiss expresses her doubts regarding their mission which seems to scare Ruby. While both still clearly have concerns, Weiss tries to reassure Ruby and change the subject, and neither storm off as Yang had. Additionally, Weiss shares Ruby's concern regarding her Uncle Qrow's alcoholism.[[note]] Weiss' mother began to [[DrowningMySorrows seclude herself in drinking]] after finding out her marriage to [[GoldDigger Jacques]] was [[WasItAllALie all built on a lie]] just so [[CorruptCorporateExecutive he could get control over the Schnee Dust Company]]. The camera first focuses on Weiss before then focusing on Yang. Let's repeat, she focused on Weiss before her own ''sister''. Just like when they were isolated in Jinn's vision. * In Volume 6 Episode 7, when Maria is finished retelling her story of how she was hunted because of her silver eyes and how she lost them, Weiss is seen glancing in Ruby's direction, likely fearing the same fate could befall her. She is the only one shown having this reaction.

Homoerotic Subtext is a different trope.

* Ruby and Weiss have a sarcastic, [[LargeHam over-emotional]] relationship with each other. * In the first episode of Volume Three, Ruby loudly declares Weiss her "BFF" when she has Ruby's back during the first battle of the tournament. Weiss flatly says no, but Ruby turns to the camera and softly says ''"Yes"''.

When Qrow is in a poison induced stupor, he weakly calls out for Tai, and ''only'' Tai, stating that "she isn't coming back". (Whether this is referencing Summer or Raven is unclear). His Amity Arena bio specifically states that one of the things that kept him going after Summer's death was "cheering on Tai from afar", showing that Qrow still cares deeply about him despite their strained relationship.

As it turns out, "Jimmy" is also Qrow's AffectionateNickname to Ironwood, not just a way to pick fun of him. In "A New Approach", Ironwood stops Qrow as he's leaving and tells him that he ''is'' genuinely glad to see him, and gives him a hug. And not a ManHug, either - a full hug with them pressed against each other.

* Ironwood/Watts: Even Ironwood and Watts get in on the FoeYay during Volume 7. The conversation they have as the platform rises during their fight sounds uncannily like the result of a really bad break-up. Ironwood then spares Watts' life, even after telling Watts he was willing to sacrifice anything to defeat Salem.
