* TheBlackDudeDiesFirst: In the ''Camp Bloodbath'' movie, Billy's first onscreen victim is a black hiker. Averted with Blake.

It is unrelated to the [[Literature/FinalGirls Riley Sager novel.]]

* EmpathicEnvironment: Inside ''Camp Bloodbath'' the weather changes as the events unfold, to reflect the atmosphere. It begins with [[DaylightHorror a sunny backdrop for the first few deaths]], becomes a [[DramaticThunder rain and thunderstorm]] during the DarkestHour, and finally [[CueTheSun the clouds break, revealing the sunrise]] when [[spoiler:Max finally kills Billy]].

* HasTwoMommies: Chris mentions he's got "two gay dads" when Kurt makes homophobic remarks, which he takes severe offense to as a result.

* SerialKillerBaiting: one of the rules in the movie is that the serial killer always [[DeathBySex shows up right when someone's about to have sex]]. Even a woman taking her top off is enough. So Max set a trap, and the slutty party girl starts [[YouCanLeaveYourHatOn dancing]] to lure him in.

* PlayingGertrude: Amanda is played by Creator/MalinAkerman, mother of Max (Creator/TaissaFarmiga). Akerman is only sixteen years older-Amanda's probably meant to have had Max fairly young, though not [[TeenPregnancy as a teenager]].

* DeathBySex: Enforced. Even attempting to have sex or taking off one's top is enough to summon Billy.

* MacheteMayhem: Billy Murphy's weapon of choice. When he loses the machete, he starts using a [[KnifeNut regular knife]].

** The TomboyishName of the lead character and eponymous 'final girl' Max is a nod to this trope, which is fairly common in the slasher sub-genre (i.e. Jess in ''Film/BlackChristmas1974'', Jamie in ''Franchise/{{Halloween}}'', Chris in ''Film/FridayThe13thPartIII''.

* ParentalAbandonment: Max's father is not around it seems as he's never seen or mentioned. Whether he died, was just never involved or what is not explained. Amanda dies in a car accident early on, which Max has a hard time dealing with. It's especially tough going to one of her movies on the anniversary. Then, once Max is sucked ''into'' that movie, she meets the character her mother played come to life. This is also clearly painful for Max. [[spoiler:Then the character is killed while saving Max, which is like losing her all over again.]]

* SocietyMarchesOn: Referenced a few times, such as with a passing reference to changing social attitudes toward LGBT people and the advent of e-commerce. A partial source of the film's comedy.

* BeneathTheMask: Vicky from the real world starts out as a typical unpleasant bitchy character, but it is later revealed that she's been acting like that because she misses the friendship that she used have with Max before her mother's death.
* BigBad: Billy Murphy, the masked killer of both ''Camp Bloodbath'' and this movie. [[spoiler:He's also the main villain of former's sequel, ''Camp Bloodbath 2: Cruel Summer'']].

* DeathByGenreSavvy: [[spoiler:Subverted with Duncan]], who believes Billy will just leave them alone because they're not part of the movie. He gets a machete to the torso to prove him wrong. [[spoiler: Of course, he turns out to have survived this and a run in with a car later on in the movie.]]

* DramaticIrony: There's a good sense that Amanda's financial problems as well as lack of success as an actress is due to her treatment of her past as a horror icon as an OldShame. She complains about being only recognized as a Scream Queen but it's the only thing she's done of any note and they DO recognize her. The movie also makes it clear that ''Camp Bloodbath'', as a CaptainErsatz for ''Friday the 13th'', has an active and vocal fandom that wants to see her.

* {{Expy}}: Billy is this for [[Franchise/FridayThe13th Jason Voorhees]]; he's a masked, hulking killer who became one as a result of the the actions of counselors at a summer camp, and he wields a machete.

* GoryDiscretionShot: [[spoiler:When Nancy is stabbed by Billy]], the camera cuts to a wide-shot the second before it happens.
* GroundhogDayLoop: From the time they get to the movie world, Max and co. find themselves in a 92-minute loop until they go with the minibus to counselors to Camp Blue Finch.

* ICouldaBeenAContender: Max's mom Amanda has been type casted as a scream queen and to her disappointment has had bad luck appearing in anything other than B-grade schlock ever since Camp Bloodbath. She still seems to have a pretty happy life otherwise though.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Vicky who becomes nicer as the movie progresses.

* KensingtonGore: Duncan theorizes that the movie characters' blood will be this and helps himself to a taste off of one of Billy's victims. It's not corn syrup. He proceeds to gag.

* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: Her role as Nancy in ''Camp Bloodbath'' was this for Amanda Cartwright, Max's mom, as she had hard time getting new acting gigs because it's all that she is remembered for.

** Billy Murphy is an amalgamation of three different slasher villains. The appearance and ''modus operandai'' of [[Franchise/FridayThe13th Jason Voorhees]], the backstory of Cropsey from ''Film/TheBurning'', and the name of Billy from ''Film/BlackChristmas1974''; a film which many consider to be the progenitor of the slasher sub-genre.

* AllJustADream: [[spoiler:Max briefly wonders whether the movie was a dream but Duncan shows her his machete wound proving the events were real]].

* DownerEnding: [[spoiler:The protagonists manage to defeat Billy, only to learn that they are now trapped in the Camp Bloodbath series and must deal with [[SequelEscalation an even angrier Billy with two machetes]]]].

* ArrowsOnFire: Arrows with burning tampons on them are used against Billy when he's attacking the lodge. [[ImplacableMan They barely slow him down]].

* {{Leitmotif}}: "Bette Davis Eyes" for Amanda and Max. It's playing on the radio right before the car crash that kills Amanda and she even reminds Max that it was "our song" when Max was little. [[spoiler: It starts playing again as Nancy, the character played by Amanda in ''Camp Bloodbath'', sacrifices herself so that Max can become the FinalGirl and escape.]]
