Too fantastical and character reaction.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** After Jack discovers the Antareans' secret, he starts to panic, voicing his worries that they may "try to eat my face off." Walter is bemused by this, and [[{{Troll}} asks if face-eating is a delicacy on Earth,]] just to mess with Jack. Then he gives his real threat: if Jack doesn't help them, then they'll... just hire and pay someone else to provide a boat. Jack quiets down fast when he realizes he'll be broke again (and that nobody would believe his story).
** After the nursing home residents [[spoiler: break into the pool house and undo ''everything'' the Antareans have worked for in about three minutes,]] Walter comes in, enraged. Does he threaten to zap them? Take them hostage? Do anything one might expect from an extraterrestrial? No. He ''threatens to call the police.'' Everyone clears out fast.

* JerkassHasAPoint: While the orderlies are obnoxious jerks, they aren't wrong to be skeptical of old men who claim to have encountered space aliens or to find such stories ridiculous: their story doesn't exactly sound plausible, not to mention that fact that many of the retirement home residents do have mild dementia, and that lonely elderly people often make up fanciful stories to get attention.

* JerkassHasAPoint: While the orderlies are obnoxious jerks, they aren't wrong it makes perfect sense for them to be skeptical of a bunch of old men who claim claiming to have encountered had encounters with extraterrestrials - after all, their space aliens or to find such stories ridiculous: their alien story doesn't exactly sound plausible, not to mention that does seem wildly implausible. There's the additional fact that many of the retirement home orderlies were probably used to dealing with residents do who have mild dementia, and that with lonely elderly people often who make up fanciful stories to get attention.

*DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: A group of senior citizens fly away to another world where they will enjoy eternal life and good health. More or less lampshaded by the minister at a funeral service held for the retirement community residents (it was assumed by all that the boat sank and the seniors on board all died) who speaks of them now being in Heaven for eternity.

*TheEeyore: Bernie is a [[GrumpyOldMan grouchy killjoy]] who seems to resent the fact that Ben, Joe, and Art are having such a good time, partly because he disapproves of anything that tries to cheat nature's course of old age and eventual death.
*TheFatalist: Bernie is opposed to using the alien "fountain of youth" to prolong one's life, being a firm believer in accepting what life has to offer and not trying to cheat fate (although he violates his own principles once, when stricken with grief over [[spoiler: Rose's death]]).
-->''Bernie'': You play the cards you've been dealt. You don't get to reshufle the deck!

Added DiffLines:

*IntergenerationalFriendship: Ben Luckett is his grandson David's best friend, and the boy seems to be well-liked by most of the other people at the retirement community. Lampshaded when Ben tells his grandson that as much as he loves his company, David needs to learn how to make friends among people his own age too.

Added DiffLines:

*JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Bernie is a dyspeptic killjoy early on the in the film, but he's truly devoted to his wife Rose, and towards the end of the film he makes it a point to say goodbye to all of the departing members of the nursing home.
