* DarkerAndEdgier: The story is set in the {{Anime/Pokemon}} anime world, if the appearance of Ash and his Pokémon are any indication. However, Alyssa and Cindy's adventures tend to be a bit more frightening, and a bit more mature. In fact, the fic's CerebusSyndrome could be attributed to the characters growing older and the demon Fakemon Malonix, which is responsible (directly or indirectly) for the deaths of many people and Pokémon.

** The Alchemutts are blatant expies of the [[Anime/FullmetalAlchemist Elric Brothers.]]

** The [[spoiler:Explosive Blood Serum]] is a reference to ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans.''
** The Century Golden Lights scene is a shout-out to ''Disney/{{Tangled}}.''

And then when they are captured ''again'', he attempts to kill the kids, setting off Cindy's MamaBear mode with her trademark UnstoppableRage. And then Malo!Ty wins the battle, in front of a crowd, including the injured Quiltuplets. And then Ty manages to snap of his evil mode after his daughter loses it, and then he sees what he has done...]]
*** Subsequent events involving [[spoiler:Ty's Malonix virus]] have this fear as part of the reason why Ty is implied to be suffering from SanitySlippage: [[spoiler:His SuperpoweredEvilSide is growing stronger, and he knows that when it takes over, all his loved ones are ''dead'']].
** In one chapter, Charlie (a Charizard at that point) was helpless when [[spoiler:Minnie and Scales were sitting ducks during a Malonixed Fearow attack. Luckily, the twins had used Double Team to confuse it, and climbed on for a sneak attack. However, Fearow noticed them and started flying upward to try to shake them off from a great height (since they could not fly), using this trope on Charlie twice in succession. The two managed to stop Fearow's flight and Thunderbolt it, and by the time they fell off, Charlie was up to catch them]].
*** And then right after, Diana is helplessly watching with a broken wing as [[spoiler:Charlie is punctured InTheBack and thrown off to somewhere in the forest, and the twins are being tortured by Fearow. Thank goodness Celebi arrived when she did...]].

* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:Cindy and Cinnamon, thanks to Team Vortex]].

* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: Gender reversed in the form of Cindy and Ty.
** [[spoiler:Sombra and Amber]].

* CatUpATree: Okay, this one's inverted; it was ''[[PreciousPuppy Hailey]]'' who climbed up a tree once!

* CerebusSyndrome: After the few chapters in the beginning pertaining to Anonimo and his abuse of Cindy, the story was pretty lighthearted, and stayed so with the introduction of [[{{Adorkable}} Alyssa]], [[TeamMom Chelsea]], and [[CuteKitten Cinn]][[GenkiGirl amon]], who are all just children. However, once [[KnightOfCerebus Anonimo]] was brought back into the picture, things took a turn for the darker, even when [[PragmaticHero Allison]], [[PreciousPuppy Hai]][[DeadpanSnarker ley]], [[CrazyAwesome Celebi]], [[TagalongKid Alexis]], and [[TheDitz Trina]] joined the group. And then the Malonix showed up, and things kept getting darker as the girls grew older...

** Cindy also serves as a foil to NiceGuy Ty, CrazyAwesome Celebi, Trina TheDitz, and her {{Adorkable}} trainer, Alyssa.

* NotSoDifferent: [[spoiler:Evil!Sombra actually points out that he and Cindy have much in common]]. Cindy furiously tries to deny it while [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown beating the crap out of him]].
** And the arguments she gives are pretty shallow, so, he has a point...
