* ButtMonkey: Reiju [[spoiler: She pisses of Hancock, who holds her prisoner until the Straw-Hearts come. Then she is fed her own kidney by Law after stomping on his BerserkButton, then she is kept a hostage in Punk Hazard by Whitebeard pirates, who make sure to rub her family's failures and defeat in her face. Finally, she is dismissed by the world at large once her father is imprisoned.]]

* BerserkButton: Rocinante is essentially a walking BerserkButton for Doflamingo due to their...''[[CainAndAbel complicated]]'' [[EtTuBrute relationship]]. Rocinante takes advantage of it in 'Settling The Score', which is particualarly impressive [[spoiler: due to being [[UnPerson turned into a toy]] at the time and Doflamingo not remembering him.]]

* AdaptationalJerkass: Due to the story overtaking the manga during the Whole Cake Islsnd arc, this version of Reiju lacks her canon self's PetTheDog moments and is very much TheSociopath like her genetically altered brothers.

* OverprotectiveDad: Shanks is ''not'' happy with his sons having love lives.

** Shanks takes to parenting with remarkable aplomb, especially the 'protective' part (see [[OverprotectiveDad above]]). When Ace is taken for execution, he threatens to [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge raze Mariejois to the ground if Ace dies.]] [[spoiler: Sengoku and the Marines later correctly interpret that Ace survived Akainu's attack, because Mariejois is still standing.]]

** His final exam for Ace and Luffy is to use their Conqueror's Haki to cross the Calm Belt...[[UpToEleven five times in a row, both ways.]]

** Ace is also briefly affected by it, which causes his dads and Marco to freak the hell out when they recover and [[AdultFear can't get ahold of him for fifteen hours.]]

* AdultFear: All ''over'' the place. The entire series is kicked off by Garp getting notice that if he doesn't do something drastic, Ace will be killed and Luffy will be used as a pawn to control Dragon. The only solution he can manage is to send all three of his grandsons off so he never has contact with them again.
** Two of the short stories in 'Parenting Future Pirates' fall into this. The first has Mihawk discovering Zoro's [[NoSenseOfDirection directional sense]] by Zoro wandering off and getting lost for hours. The second has the ASL brothers running into a forest to hunt without telling the Red Hair Pirates because that's what they're used to. Shanks and Benn rush to find them and try to explain why they can't do that any more.
** Since Rocinante survives, he has to deal with his top bosses and their treatment of Law as an asset rather than a child. Then, when Law runs away, he has to live with the knowledge that his sixteen-year-old son has declared himself a pirate - i.e. fair game for the Marines ''and'' Doflamingo.
** 'All That And Marineford Too' has the canon feelings of Garp as he is forced to help oversee preparations for Ace's execution. Shanks also rushes to stop it [[spoiler: and briefly thinks that he's failed and Ace is dead when Akainu punches him.]]
** 'Punking Doflamingo' and 'Settling The Score' may just be the crowners. [[spoiler: Rocinante is [[UnPerson turned into a toy]] by Doflamingo, and the effects are immediate. Kuzan forgets his lover while in the middle of his RoaringRampageOfRescue, abruptly wondering why he was so angry. Law, in the middle of fighting Tashigi and Smoker, suddenly rips out their hearts and tortures them because he no longer has any reason to feel even slightly positive towards Marines. Law becomes far more emotionally unstable and, upon realizing his memories have been tampered with, is terrified at the inexplicable change and that he is now a noticeably worse person. Doflamingo takes great delight in torturing Rocinante by threatening to ''molest'' Law when he captures him. Then Kuzan is tricked into fighting Law, and nearly freezes his adoptive son to death while planning to hand him over to Doflamingo, who's made sure to give Rocinante a good vantage point to witness the whole thing.]] Jesus ''christ''.
*** In the latter story, Ace is briefly affected by [[UnPerson Sugar's power]]. His boyfriend Marco, hundreds of miles away and without any knowledge of what's happened, can't remember Ace even when looking at a picture of the two of them. Shanks and Benn are similarly affected. Then, when their memories are restored, they can't get ahold of him for fifteen hours.
** Ace and Marco semi-adopt Momonosuke in 'No, We're Not Adopting! (Or Kidnapping!)'. Momo then has a panic attack and runs out into the frozen side of Punk Hazard, entirely alone and without properly insulating clothing.

* {{Asexual}}: Both Luffy and Trafalgar Law. Their relationship is a happy one.

* EnthrallingSiren: Upon Luffy and Momonosuke insisting they hear a voice calling out when no one else can in 'The Unmentioned Elephant', Ace theorizes it could be a siren.

* PrimalScene: Inverted, Shanks catches Sabo and Koala naked in his bed. He makes them change the sheets after embarasing them.
