* ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'', of course, subverts this in the most depressing way imaginable. Throughout your journey, you meet the jolly knight Siegmeyer of Catarina. Every time you meet him, he prepares to do a HeroicSacrifice to save you. Being the good guy that you are, you of course intervene to help him. However, as an undead, he needs to feel that he has a purpose to avoid going hollow. Since you always undermine his attempts at saving you, he starts feeling that you don't need him and that he has no purpose. YouBastard
** His successor Siegward in ''VideoGame/DarkSoulsIII'' has a significantly more awesome end. What else can you call it when he battles a giant by your side and has a final drink with you before expiring from his wounds?

So, in your final encounter with him, he attempts at saving you, he starts feeling that to both repay you for your help and restore his own honor by way of a HeroicSacrifice, dying a glorious death in battle while you flee to safety. But of course, you don't need him want your friend to die, so you stay and fight to ensure his survival, but this ends up being the last straw that he has no purpose. YouBastard

** In ''Shadowlands'', while he was already dead after being killed by Thrall, Garrosh Hellscream gets one at the end of the Soulrender Dormazain encounter in the Sanctum of Domination: he declares that despite the venthyr's attempts to absolve him of his sins in life, he feels no remorse for everything he did in the name of the Horde and would gladly do it all over again. He then picks up Dormazain's sword and leaps at him while yelling "For the Horde!", ending in them both DeaderThanDead and naught but a pile of ash behind.

* An off-screen one happens in ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil3Nemesis'', when you come across the aftermath of a battle in the Icineration Disposal Plant. The T-103 tyrant you ran into in the previous game was already troubling to fight on your own, but you'll find the corpses of '''three''' of them with the bodies of an entire Delta Force team that killed them all with a combination of [[Determinator [[{{Determinator}} desperation]] and the power of MoreDakka.

* ''VideoGame/WolfensteinTheNewOrder'' has an off-screen moment of this at the start of the game, when the Nazis are overrunning the hospital and killing all within. You can find slumped up against the wall, the dead body of a nurse with a shotgun at her side. A few feet away opposite her lies a dead Nazi stormtrooper.

** Also, technically Wander's death, although since even though he is essentially BackFromTheDead/[[{{Reincarnation}} put down in a quick and one-sided fight, he ''doesn't give up'' and keeps struggling forward until he physically can't go on anymore. (That said, he is either BackFromTheDead or [[{{Reincarnation}} Reincarnated]] by the end of the game.)
