* KnifeNut: Has a combat knife strapped on his web gear that has a knuckle guard built into the grip. Said knife is not usable in-game.

* {{Meganekko}}: To emphasize her AcademicAlphaBitch status, she's a very attractive woman who wears glasses, haughtily adjusting them in one of her victory close ups. She doesn't even bother taking them off with her bikini outfit to help ensure this bit of fanservice isn't lost with her swimsuit. However, concept art of her bikini has her without them in one of the only instance she's seen without them.

* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: She's the most eager of the three female federation leads to want to try on a swimsuit in the beach DLC, especially compared to [[ReluctantFanserviceGirl Minerva]], hoping to show off to Claude. Subverted in her hot springs scene though where she gets out naked to scold the Imperial Guys shit talking women not because she doesn't care if she sees them naked or to flirt, but because she ''forgot she was naked''.

* ShootTheMedicFirst: The victim of such in Chapter 13 if she's called out to evacuate a wounded teammate. An enemy sniper has been [[ObligatoryWarCrimeScene specifically ordered to target Federation medics]] and she will get shot in the arm the moment she runs out. Karen is unusable for this mission until the sniper is found and killed.

* {{Foil}}: To Minerva, as both are highly intelligent and feisty women in the military from wealthy backgrounds, quite the lookers, and have an obvious SlapSlapKiss relationship with Claude. Both also blame Claude for deaths of people close to them, with Riley blaming Claude for the death of her family in their Company's fire while Minerva blames Claude for [[spoiler: the deaths of Squad F due to his inability to provide support on time]]. Though, both manage to eventually move past this point of contention. Riley however is bubbly and chirpy, while Minerva tries to carry herself with an air of professional dignity and is more hesitant to engage in fun antics. It is also [[spoiler: Riley who ends up with Claude.]]

** To Riley, as both are highly intelligent and feisty women in the military from wealthy backgrounds, quite the lookers, and have an obvious SlapSlapKiss relationship with Claude. Both also blame Claude for deaths of people close to them, with Riley blaming Claude for the death of her family in their Company's fire while Minerva blames Claude for [[spoiler: the deaths of Squad F due to his inability to provide support on time]]. Though, both manage to eventually move past this point of contention. * {{Foil}}: Series wise, she's one to Faldio Landzaat in the original game. Both are Squad leaders who were Classmates to Claude and Welkin respectively and end up having their squads wiped out with them being the sole survivors. While Faldio and Welkin have a solid friendship that lasts throughout most of the original game, Minerva makes her resentment of Claude clear, butting heads with him constantly. At the Climax of the both games, their relationships with the protagonists become flipped. Welkin's friendship with Faldio becomes strained due to the latter's act of shooting Alicia. Minerva, on the otherhand sets aside her rivalry with Claude and acknowledges him as the better commander. Unlike Faldio, Minerva survives the war.

* ReluctantFanserviceGirl: Despite her desire to maintain professional, she does change into the most revealing bikini in the BeachEpisode DLC and accidentally poses in a way to show off her BoobsOfSteel while putting it on, in her hesitant attempt to keep up with Riley and Kai. She justifies this on her part, as despite her good looks and body, she ''is'' from an aristocratic family and has to maintain its image, which includes refined modesty.

* SlapSlapKiss: In between her berating of Claude, she does display quite a bit of affection, which gets her and Claude teased for it.

* LuminescentBlush: Exaggerated. A stark naked Riley confronts a number of Imperial soldiers who talked smack about females who are involved in war, not realising that she's wearing absolutely nothing at first. When she does see she's wearing nothing, her ''entire body'' blushes red, and she screams in embarrassment.

* InformedAbility: During the ''"Other Kai"'' interlude, Raz is said to excell at CQC and is the best in their division. Yet, the player never gets to see it for themselves. The closest Raz comes to being involved in a fist fight is when Kai lays him out [[SingleStrokeBattle with one punch.]] It is best explained that fist-fighting or any form of martial arts would make programming the game mechanics a complete nightmare. This trope is partially subverted by his potential "melee skill", which effectively makes it harder for his targets to dodge when he's shooting up close.

* MsFanservice: The game gives a lot of attention to her butt, despite that she dresses very conservatively. She's also got an above-average bust size compared to other females in the series (though she's nothing compared to Selvaria, Juliana, Riela, etc), which makes her a frequent object of Raz's MaleGaze.

** Despite waring the most conservative swimsuit on the beach DLC, it matters not as Kai is so shapely that the swimsuit just ''emphasizes'' her rear even further, as well as her breasts and legs. It practically looks painted on her as opposed to obviously being fabric like Riley's or even Minerva's extremely revealing one.

* NotSoAboveItAll: Usually, she's the one running herd on Raz, unless it comes to bread. Then's she more than willing to reinforce him in his crazy, which is effectively what triggers Squad E and F's mock battle. Encapsulated by this gem that she drops:

* HardWorkHardlyWorks: Played with it. While Minerva is a respected squad commander, she believes her hard work is nothing in comparison with Claude, which achieved more with much less effort. [[This led Minerva to become bitter with him]].

* HairDecorations: She's never seen without a black headband with small wings on it, perked up like little horns.

* SkewedPriorities: For all his alleged brilliance, the reasoning behind some of Claude's decisions seems skewed. Such as when he "rehabilitates" Emmy, Viola, and Simon for insubordinate behavior by putting them through mock combat against other members of the Ranger Corps., which nearly got all three of them killed or fired. Yet, he saw no problem with [[spoiler: Kai betraying them]] and let it slide [[EasilyForgiven without any disciplinary action]] and [[ProtagonistCenteredMorality no questions asked.]]

* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: She lost her entire immediate family to a fire, which was started up by the Empire, that ignited the Miller Company.

And then she puts that on when she thinks nobody's looking. And then Claude saw it. Raz saw it. Everybody saw it. Hilarity ensues.

* WhatTheHellHero: She delivers a scathing one to Claude at the end of Chapter 7 for failing to show at he rendezvous point when they were supposed to. Claude decided to ambush an Imperial supply depot, unaware that [[spoiler: Squad F and the rest of the Federation Army were being wiped out]] because Squad E wasn't there to support them.

* CameraFiend: Never misses the chance to take photos of the squad whenever possible, never mind that films are hard to get by in the front line.

* ReluctantWarrior: Despite being a prodigy at operating tanks and being a tank enthusiast, he dislikes killing and opts to drive an armored personnel carrier, Cactus, instead. Though Cactus is equipped with a machine gun, gunning down soldiers is not Dan's primary role on the battlefield.

* JumpedAtTheCall: Karen enlisted with the EA when they announced a recruitment drive.

* {{Gainaxing}}: Her ample chest is rather jiggly in a lot of cutscenes. Funnily enough, her swimsuit skin ''removes'' this from some scenes.
