* TookALevelInBadass: Goes from a NaiveNewcomer just out of school at the start of the game to an AdventurerArchaeologist by the end.

* {{Adorkable}}: Gets pretty giddy when expositioning on relics found in the game.

* HollywoodNerd: A document you discover reveals Sam had to practically drag Lara away from her books in school to get her to go to out, while "adventures" to various hot spots in Europe had her far more interested in the local libraries and other historical sites, rather than bars, clubs and parties. Even though she's only 21 and fresh out of college she shows ''remarkable'' knowledge of the artifacts she discovers throughout the game, and an enthusiasm for archaeology that makes her completely {{Adorkable}}. Nonetheless, even before [[TookALevelInBadass Taking A Level In Badass]] Lara is an athletic and quite beautiful woman who, whenever Sam can actually get her nose out of her books, had no trouble meeting guys. She's also able to analyze the origin and age of any given relic she discovers while exploring the island, and even makes suppositions on the various ruins she traverses across at a mere glance, and none of her theories seem to be based on anything but conjecture. She can also speed-read ancient Japanese.

* {{Adorkable}}: Gets really excited when talking about cameras and film-making. It's happened enough times that Lara can readily recognize when she's about to go "bother" Whitman's film crew to talk to them about their camera gear.

* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: Sam has been captured four times over the course of the series and Lara had to save her each time. This has a profound effect on Sam as she seems to have developed an Inferiority complex as a result and likely feels that Lara doesn't see her as an equal anymore. Not helping matters is Lara always trying to protect Sam which causes quite a strain on their relationship, one that nearly destroys it for good.

* AngryBlackMan: She spends most of the game vindictively using Lara as an outlet for venting her stress, her IrrationalHatred of Lara and passing blame for her personal issues from herself. Also when she was a cop, she was bitter towards the NYPD justice system for how her partner was killed, that the police force was not going to do anything to track down the drug dealers who done it and that she had to clean up after their mess by hunting down the drug dealers herself, [[UngratefulBastard only to get suspended as a result]] [[ObstructiveBureaucrat for going against usual police protocol]].

* TokenMinority

* TheMillstone: Over the course of the 2013 series, he regretfully degenerates into this, as a consequence of TheMainCharactersDoEverything. From being wounded by Konstantin after falling for a fairly obvious trap in ''Rise'' to losing a key artifact in ''Shadow'', it seems his main purpose in the plot aside from being emotional support for Lara is to create problems for her to be required to solve (or exacerbating ones she already caused in the first place). It's telling that in "The Nightmare" DownloadableContent for ''Shadow'', his only appearance in a NightmareSequence is being captured offscreen, and nobody else has a living appearance beyond Lara herself.

* YouDontLookLikeYou: In ''Rise'' he inexplicably looks more like a black man with curly hair than the Polynesian with a short ponytail and an undercut he appears as in the first and third games.

* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: He shares a close physical resemblance to Creator/GaryOldman, which cements Whitman's villainous nature (considering Oldman is typecasted into antagonistic roles).

* GamerChick: Implied in the comics as we see a PlayStation in her and Lara's flat and we never see Lara playing any games at any point during the series so it's most likely Sam's.

* EnemyMine: [[spoiler: With Himiko. They both don't really like each other, but are forced to work together regardless, because Mathias needs Himiko to lift the curse off her island, and Himiko need Mathias to bring her a suitable host to posses.]]

* GagBoobs: Averted. Her bust is still above average, but she dropped at least three cup sizes during the reboot. The Lara from the original games would not be able to squeeze her rack through some of the narrow gaps this Lara crawls through. Her size is also much more appropriate for a woman of her level of athleticism.[[note]]Athletic women have less body fat, thus tend to have smaller breasts.[[/note]]

* YourCheatingHeart: ''"The Beginning"'' comic reveals that this is the reason for his recent divorce, having slept with a woman nearly half his age. He even has the nerve to correct his ex-wife, who obviously intends to squeeze every last penny out of him, when she gets the age wrong. The only reason he seems even slightly bothered by the entire divorce thing is because it could negatively affect [[GloryHound his popularity.]]

* ItsAllMyFault: Blames herself for the predicament she got the crew and herself into as it was her suggestion to take an alternate, off-the-beaten-path route to the island that winds up shipwrecking the ''Endurance''. Though Roth and the others continually tell her they don't blame her for what's going on, considering they were headed to the island anyway.

* HairDecorations: The flowers that come with her ceremonial garb.

* WomanInWhite: [[spoiler:The ceremonial clothing she is made to wear near the end of the game, fitting her role in the ritual.]]

** There are also strong shades of this in her reasoning for her attitude towards Lara what with her [[spoiler: resenting Lara and Roths' almost father/daughter relationship, due to him having an actual daughter with Rayes, despite the fact that ''she had never told him'' her daughter is his]], making her come across as abrasive and MeanSpirited rather than sympathetic.

* BadassGrandpa: Although he's already 52 years old, he's quite capable of protecting himself and his crew.

* BadassGrandpa: Looks to be at least as old as Roth, if not older. Not only does he manage to break out the holding cell he was put in by the Solarii brotherhood after being captured, he also aides Lara and provides her with an opportunity to penetrate the Solarii fortress so that she can rescue the others.

* TheDreaded: Ironically, Lara herself becomes this to the mooks once she begins fighting back against them. Over time, enemy chatter both in and out of combat reveals that the mercs are actually scared shitless of her and hope they don't run in to her. They don't even know her name, but they start uniformly referring to her as "The Outsider". Not ''an'' outsider. ''[[SpellMyNameWithAThe The]]'' Outsider. Leads to an amusing moment later in the game, where one mook starts [[OhCrap freaking out]] when his comrade wonders aloud where "she" has gotten too, only to reveal that he was ''actually'' talking about [[BaitAndSwitchComparison his pet pig]] which he'd let out of its pen.

* StaticCharacter: A common criticism toward Reboot #2. Each game Lara learns the same lessons, goes through very similar scenarios, faces same dangers and... comes next adventure, she makes the same mistakes over and over and over again. She never manages to notice she's the main reason of all the troubles around her, while other characters are dismissed if they even try to call her out on this. Not to mention the entire reboot managed to create an OriginsEpisode... ''stretched to'' '''three games''' and Lara's growth as a character is close to zero. If anything was growing, it was her reasurance it's always NeverMyFault.

* SpoiledSweet:
** Spoiled: Her parents gave her pretty much everything she could ever want and made sure she was privy to the best education money could buy.
** Sweet: She is a really nice person and cares greatly for her friends. While she can be dangerous when the situation calls for it she is more than willing to take a more diplomatic approach and work things out if she can.

* ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks: He kills [[spoiler:Roth]] by chucking an axe into his back. Of course, he was aiming for Lara; [[spoiler:Roth]] just TookTheBullet.

* GoodIsNotNice: She's pretty rude to Lara, but this is revealed to be [[JerkassFacade for a reason]].

* JerkassFacade: The document "Reyes: About Lara" explains that she's being so harsh with Lara because they're sailing an expensive ship and its people into dangerous waters on a whim, and she wants to ensure that, if anything goes wrong, Lara will accept responsibility for her actions. Of course, after [[spoiler:Roth's death]], the [[BecomingTheMask facade starts to become the real thing.]]

* PosthumousCharacter: [[spoiler:Her soul is trapped in her decaying body, but still maintains control over the weather and creates the furious storms that wreck any ships and aircraft that approach Yamatai, and keeps the survivors on the island. She's arguably the ManBehindTheMan to Mathias, as there are implications that she is directly influencing his actions. How else would he know the incantation for Himiko's soul to transfer into a new vessel?]]
