* ActionGirl: Marinette, naturally as she is a Pokémon trainer and takes this UpToEleven as her Kalos defender counterpart, Lady Ledian, when it comes to facing Team Akuma.

Power that can remove the forced Bond Hybrid transformation inflicted by Team Akuma from a person and their Pokémon and restore their integrity. They're why Poison Moth is openly launching attacks on Kalos to draw them out as he believes the Key Stones would lead him to the mentioned OlympusMons]].
* PaperThinDisguise: Unlike the main series where their costumes were produced by magic, Marinette and Adrien had to acquire their superhero costumes on their own (Marinette made her own while Adrien covertly used his wealth and resources to acquire his) and find opportunities to change without others finding out. But given that this is the [[JustifiedTrope Pokemon universe]], no one can really tell itÂ’s them under the masks. They make Team Rocket proud.
* RedOniBlueOni: Zigzagged. Marinette is the emotional Red Oni to AdrienÂ’s reserved Blue Oni. However, Lady Ledian is the collected Blue Oni compared to the reckless Red Oni that is Liepard Noir.

* TechnicianVersusPerformer: Zigzagged. In general, Marinette is the Performer to AdrienÂ’s Technician. But in their hero costumes, Lady Ledian focuses more on tactics while Liepard Noir, despite being [[InformedAttribute highly educated on Pokémon moves and abilities]], is more bold and reckless in his battle style.

The leading protagonist we follow starting her Pokémon journey in the Kalos region, hoping to gain inspiration for her fashion designs and to learn more about Pokémon. She also aims in competing in the Kalos League in hopes of being closer to Adrien than she was back in Lumiose Trainer Academy. Is also part of the duo that actively thwarts Team Akuma's schemes, donning the persona of Lady Ledian.

* ActionGirl: Marinette, naturally as she is a Pokémon trainer and takes this UpToEleven as her Kalos defender counterpart, Lady Ledian, when it comes to facing Team Akuma.

* ClingyJealousGirl: Is prone to jealousy whenever a girl flirts or gets too close for comfort to Adrien, which causes her to act irrationally when pushed too far, but she reserves this for Chloé and later Lila. [[spoiler: Lila's act of leading Adrien away and [[ForcefulKiss kissing him]] was enough to impulsively drive Marinette to wear her Lady Ledian mask and just like in the main show, it made her call out Lila on her lies in Chapter 48, humiliating Lila in from of Adrien, which renders her vulnerable to become Team Akuma's Bond Hybrid]].

* CombatPragmatist: Her battle style since her Pokémon in general are not particular powerhouses.
* CrushBlush: MarinetteÂ’s default reaction around Adrien early on in the story, often described to [[UpToEleven ridiculous levels]].

* CutenessProximity: Her common reaction towards [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter small, cute Pokémon]] like Pikachu and Dedenne. Unfortunately both are [[ShockAndAwe Electric-Type]] [[HarmlessElectrocution Pokémon]]. HilarityEnsues.

* FeminineWomenCanCook: As her parents own a bakery, Marinette has some skills in baking, particularly bakery goods and Poké Puffs that her Pokémon enjoy. This is shown in Chapter 34 where, with the help of her party, baked plenty of goods for both Adrien and her Pokémon team. Alya has encouraged her to use her baking skills more often to [[ThroughHisStomach increase her chances with Adrien]].

* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: Her Pokémon team mostly consists of either cute or feminine Pokémon, often has romantic fantasies about Adrien and is an aspiring fashion designer. That being said, she's also a Pokémon Trainer competing for the Kalos League and was willing to rock-climb in the Cyllage Gym.
* GracefulLoser: In Chapter 55 [[spoiler: after losing to Chloé in their rematch and despite her rival's UnsportsmanlikeGloating, Marinette keeps it together long enough to actually congratulate Chloé on her victory, which actually sours it for her as Chloé wanted Marinette to be miserable over it]] Though downplayed as[[spoiler: she does still feel saddened over the fact that she lost to Chloé of all people, which she shows after Chloé left]].

** Marinette suffers a brief and minor one in the Parfum Palace tag battle during the first round, wherein she is eliminated first and Adrien had to fight off [[OfficialCouple Ivan and Mylène]] on his own. Despite being able to move on to the next round, Marinette felt humiliated for holding Adrien back and ran off before Adrien found her and snapped her out of it.

* ImagineSpot: As usual, Marinette's imagination tends to go to the extreme for either the best or the worst possible consequences, usually the latter due to worrying about either losing a Pokémon battle or getting Adrien to notice her. All played for laughs.

* NiceGirl: Marinette's a sweet and kind girl to her friends, former classmates and Pokémon. After capturing Sewaddle, she offers a Poké Puff to the Sewing Pokémon as an apology for their rough start, showing no resentment. [[spoiler: Her genuine kindness towards Spinda due to her understanding of being clumsy was the reason why he became fond of her]].

* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Half of Marinette's team are comprise of adorable Pokémon, such Tikki her Ledyba/Ledian, Sewaddle/Swadloon/Leavanny and Togepi/Togetic.

* SoProudOfYou: Marinette takes pride in raising her Pokémon, so she'll have this reaction whenever they evolve. This is evident for Togepi, a baby Pokémon whom Marinette raised with all her heart.

* StealthExpert: Marinette's quite stealthy and was able to hide from Adrien and Nino when they were at the same Pokémon Centre in Chapter 34.
* StepfordSmiler: Marinette manages to keep her cheerful façade together in Chapter 55 [[spoiler: after she lost to Chloé in their second match, even congratulating the latter on her victory]]. Alya commends her for it, as it would be something she herself cannot do.

* TookALevelInBadass: In the flashback in Chapter 1, Marinette was timid and she feared that experience in Professor Damocles' lab before Tikki and Adrien helped her. After starting her Pokémon journey and later becoming Lady Ledian, she becomes more assertive and confident; improving her skills as a Trainer and hero.

* WeakButSkilled: Marinette's Pokémon aren't powerhouses compared to Adrien's, a fact she herself acknowledges. She makes up for this through making use of her Pokémon's abilities, [[AwesomeByAnalysis analyzing her surroundings]] and uses her quick thinking to devise or adapt her strategies during battles.

Throughout her journey, Marinette has encountered countless Pokémon in the Kalos region, including those who end up joining her. Whether it was through the usual Pokéball method or the aspiring fashion designer befriended them, Marinette shares a close bond with her team as they strive to be the best they can be while accompanying her on her journey. Although not reliant on pure power, they prove to be a formidable team with the combination of having some tricks up their sleeves, Marinette's quick-thinking, and a bit of luck.

* BadassAdorable: The majority of her team are comprised of cute-looking Pokémon who are all competent in Pokémon battles. Even her not-so-cute-ones; specifically Feebas, can surprisingly be [[UglyCute consider cute in a way]]. Her Gardevoir and Leavanny were cute back when they were Ralts/Kirlia and Sewaddle/Swadloon respectively before both evolving into LadyOfWar.

* MagikarpPower: Three of Marinette's Pokémon started off with low stats and limited movepool sets, but under Marinette's care they can/were able to fully realize their potential:

** Togepi due to the fact she's a baby Pokémon and doesn't have high stats, something that Jalil pointed out during Marinette's Shalour Gym Battle. Evolving into Togetic from the close bond she shares with Marinette makes her a StoneWall, but her offensive stats are still low. Once she evolves into Togekiss via Shiny Stone, she becomes a MightyGlacier.

* PoorPredictableRock: Her team downplays this as they are a mixture of Pokémon, but it's noted that half of her team are weak against [[ShockAndAwe Electric-Types]] (Tikki, Togepi/Togetic, Feebas) and [[AnIcePerson Ice-Types]] (Tikki, Sewaddle/Swadloon/Leavanny, Togepi/Togetic). Naturally, the Lumiose City Gym prove to a challenge due to specializing in Electric-Types.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Most of her Pokémon are absolutely adorable, especially her Togepi/Togetic and Spinda.
* TrueCompanions: One of the reasons why Marinette's growing into a competent Pokémon trainer is because of the close bond she formed with her party. In return, her team continues to support her during the journey as she does for them.

Marinette's starter Pokémon. Met at Professor Damocles's Pokémon reserve. Loyal and caring like her Kwami counterpart.

* ActionGirl: Tikki is of Marinette's key Pokémon in battles, having defeated several of the Gym Leader's strongest Pokémon. Particularly during Marinette's battle against the Shalour Gym Leader where she faced off against a Mega Evolved Lucario and ''won''.

* AHandfulForAnEye: Not exactly for an eye, but [[spoiler: Tikki unintentionally helped Marinette discover this as part of her trainer's tactic in countering Nadja's Electric Pokémon in their Gym battle [[ChekhovsGun (which was discovered during her practice battle against Alya and Electabuzz)]] by having Tikki punch up dirt and cover them in it to hinder their electricity. It was described as "a crude form of Mud Sport," [[FridgeBrilliance which weakens electric power]]. It worked on Emolga.]]
* HeadPet: As a smaller Ledyba, she would sometimes perch on top of Marinette's head when outside her Poké Ball.

* StarterMon: Marinette's first Pokémon.

* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Tikki is said to enjoy Poké Puffs aside from cookies.

Marinette's second Pokémon, caught at the same time Adrien catches her friend. Encountered in Route 4. Shy and withdrawn at first, she opens up and grows in confidence the same time Marinette does during her journey.

* ActionGirl: She has become a powerful dual Psychic and Fairy-Type Pokémon who's capable of Mega Evolving.

* BewareOfTheNiceOnes: Like her trainer, she's normally a sweet and demure Pokémon, but get on her bad side and she'll subject you with [[MindOverMatter Psychic]].

* ActionGirl: Her introduction established her as a brave Pokémon even as a Sewaddle and was the first Pokémon Marinette used in her debut as Lady Ledian.

* BigEater: Marinette first discovers her when Sewaddle decided to eat her discarded sketch papers, thinking they were up for grabs. The narration in Chapter 34 stated that she had to be held back from eating the pastries and Poké Puffs Marinette was baking. Even as a Leavanny she still hasn't lost it.

* FashionDesigner: Was selected to become one of Marinette's Pokémon because of this matching role. Has also helped Marinette out time to time in making new clothes with her strong and soft silk during their journey, [[spoiler: particularly on her Lady Ledian costume]].

* TranquilFury: Swadloon barely emotes, but was noted to have her normally bored expression to show fury when she was insulted by Chloé.

Marinette's fourth Pokémon, hatched from a Pokémon Egg. Obtained from winning a tag-team tournament in Parfum Palace. Represents Marinette's good luck. Lucky Charm!

* ComesGreatResponsibility: The factor that spurs Togetic [[spoiler: to evolve into Togekiss in Chapter 56 after a painful loss against Chloé. Marinette wanted to make sure the basis of her and Togetic selecting evolution was from their mutual trust and desire to grow stronger together and not out of revenge against Chloé. There was a possibility Marinette feared had the intent to evolve [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity came from the latter]]]].

* TheRival: Develops a tense rivalry against Chloé's Murkrow/Honchkrow, given that they're of opposing types capable of flight.

* SweetTooth: She was drooling over the Poké Puffs that were made by the Showcase Contestants in Chapter 50.

Marinette's fifth Pokémon. Encountered at Azure Bay. Represents Marinette's growth to true beauty.

* FlatCharacter: Is unfortunately hit with this due to her lack of screentime. It probably doesn't help that she's the Fish Pokémon and that the main characters haven't been around water where she could be used more. [[spoiler: She does get a bit of personality in Chapter 45 as a Pokémon that wants to work hard in getting stronger to earn the privilege to evolve into Milotic]]. Marinette's sixth and final Pokémon. Encountered at Anistar City. Represents Marinette's clumsy and cute traits.

* AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal: While working in Anistar Café, Spinda was wearing a blue bow-tie on his collar instead of on his head, the placement signifying him being a boy Pokémon.

* TheBartender: Invoked for Spinda's character as part of the reference to Spinda's Café. Spinda is even described polishing a glass like a patient bartender during lunch time.

* BewareTheSillyOnes: Spinda is an oddball Pokémon who has a tendency to trip and roll around. However, his fight against the three punks reminds the owner that he was a Pokémon that came from Route 21, a route that leads to the Kalos League HQ. [[spoiler: Not to mention his fist-fight with Chloé's Weavile that was brutal for both parties]].

* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Spinda is noted for his oddities whether it's for his reasons for following the café owner, his behavior or how he thinks. Heck, Spinda has ''forgotten'' the reason why he followed the owner back to Anistar City in the first place.

* FacePlant: In Chapter 55, he attempts to strike a cool pose when Marinette summons him during her rematch battle against Chloé... [[TheKlutz only to land face first on the hard floor]].
* HiddenDepths: He knows how to make excellent juice from working in a café in Anistar City, with the author likening him to a bartender of sorts.

* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: [[spoiler: Gets into this against Chloé's Weavile in Chapter 55, brutally exchanging Dizzy Punches and Ice Punches until they both knock each other out]].

* TheOneGuy: The only male Pokémon on Marinette's full team.

* ShoutOut: To Spinda's Café of ''[[VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeonExplorers Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky]]''.
* SixthRanger: Spinda is the last Pokémon to fill up Marinette's team.

* WouldHitAGirl: He won't go easy on female Pokémon. He engaged with [[spoiler: Chloé]]'s Weavile in an old-fashion fist-fight that left both beaten-up and bruised.

The deuteragonist of the story. Child prodigy of the Kalos Champion and groomed to be the next to take the title from him, Adrien yearns for more out of his Pokémon journey and to grow out of his father's shadow. The mysterious disappearance of his mother four years prior still haunts him. Also operates as the other half of the heroic duo actively thwarting Team Akuma, taking on the liberating mask of Liepard Noir.

* BadassBookworm: Adrien was described to be the top of Marinette's class, acing the practical exams, and has been highly educated on Pokémon moves and abilities.

* BewareTheSillyOnes: As Liepard Noir, he is a wise-cracking Pokémon PungeonMaster. He is still a skilled trainer and [[spoiler: as Chapter 43 shows, when he stops joking, he is force to reckon with]].
* BrokenAce: Ranked at the top of Marinette's class at the Academy and has proven to be a very skillful Pokémon Trainer at a young age, on top of being well-liked by his peers and Pokémon alike. Underneath it all, Adrien suffers from ParentalNeglect and WellDoneSonGuy big time. Not to mention [[spoiler: he becomes the most targeted trainer to battle with after his father made his announcement [[ToughLove to show no mercy to his son]] if they want to compete in the Kalos League]].

** Adrien uses “Plagg, claws out!" for sending out his Purrloin/Liepard.

* CatBoy: As Liepard Noir, though he's based on a Pokémon who has both cat and leopard characteristics.
* ChickMagnet: Aside from [[ObliviousToLove unknowingly]] gaining Marinette's affections, he is highly popular due to his "[[TheAce Ace Trainer]]" status and natural good looks. He even has [[AlphaBitch Chloé]] and [[ConsummateLiar Lila]] smitten with him. It comes to the point that there was a huge majority of girls cheering for Adrien during the exhibition match against his father.

* CombatPragmatist: In Chapter 42, [[spoiler: rather than face the two Team Akuma grunts in a Pokémon battle, [[CuttingTheKnot Liepard Noir opted to have his Marowak knock them out before they could even start a battle]]. Since his best friend has been turned into the latest Bond Hybrid, he's [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness not wasting any time on them]]]].
* CrazyJealousGuy: Downplayed in Adrien's case, in which overhearing guys in public talking about how they think they have a chance with Lady Ledian, as seen at the end of Chapter 49, annoys him while passively asserting to himself that he has [[EntitledToHaveYou greater entitlement]] to her than any other guy. [[spoiler: Although he seemed fine if the boy Trainers talking about her challenged him to a Pokémon battle since it would [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown allow him to vent out more stored frustration]]]].
* DarkIsNotEvil: The Pokémon Liepard Noir is based on is known as the "Cruel Pokémon" and it's pre-evolved form is known to steal on unsuspecting victims. Nonetheless, Liepard Noir proves to be a hero and a reliable partner to Lady Ledian. This is actually [[DiscussedTrope discussed]] between the two.

* FriendlessBackground: Adrien, before the story begins, had a strict upbringing as a result of being groomed to become the next Kalos Champion after his father. The first time he was [[PetTheDog allowed around peers his age]] was at the beginning of Lumiose Trainer Academy, even though Gabriel could've had him [[TrainingFromHell train and learn about Pokémon in the frigid forests outside of Snowbelle City]].

* GildedCage: How he felt about his life prior to Lumiose Academy and being a Pokémon trainer. He enjoys travelling across Kalos because he gets to explore different parts of the region and see all kinds of Pokémon.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Adrien has blonde hair and is extremely kind-hearted to both people and Pokémon alike.

* IJustWantToBeFree: He'd rather not have the heavy expectations of succeeding his father as the next Kalos Champion. Adrien desires to travel around, make new friends, and enjoy the ups and downs of a normal Pokémon journey.

* MoralityPet: To [[SmallNameBigEgo Chloé]], since he's the only one she actually tries to be nice to.
* MrExposition: Between him and Lady Ledian, he's the one who's more knowledgeable on different Pokémon abilities and the history of the Kalos region, thus has to sometimes explain it to her.
* {{Nepotism}}: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]]. Despite being the son of the current Kalos' Champion and regarded as a prodigy, Adrien's skills and competence as a trainer also came from hard-work and dedication. His father doesn't hold back against anyone, including his own son, whether it's training him, sending a horde of trainers to challenge him or fighting him in a Pokémon battle. Not that his competence stops his dissenters from accusing him of riding his father's coattails to get where he is.
* NiceGuy: Adrien is a friendly and helpful boy to his friends and Pokémon. He obtained Cubone/Marowak in his team because [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe he showed kindness to her after she helped him and Alya in Glittering Cave]].
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Because of his [[LeeroyJenkins brash]] [[ChronicHeroSyndrome habit of protecting Lady Ledian]] with his own Pokémon, Liepard Noir was left defenseless [[spoiler: when Team Akuma Grunts placed a peculiar device said to drain his Key Stone's energies in Chapter 51, which would include the portion of Yveltal's power imbued into it]]. However, even with [[spoiler: [[BigDamnHeroes Delphox Rouge and Trixx destroying the device]], Poison Moth reveals that the device's true nature was to scan all energy wavelengths of the Key Stone and send the data back to Team Akuma's database as quickly as possible. This includes Yveltal's energy signal, which he can now use to locate the Destruction Pokémon anywhere in Kalos]].

* PungeonMaster: Tosses out Pokémon puns, particularly as Liepard Noir, which still induces a LamePunReaction for Lady Ledian, aka Marinette. Strangely enough, he tossed out a few Poképuns as himself early on in the story. MarinetteÂ’s reaction towards Adrien, however, appears to zigzag between groans and girlish giggles.

This is prominent whenever he faces against his friends and the stakes aren't high; he doesn't care whether he wins or loses, just the enjoyment that comes from it. It is even noted by other characters that Adrien becomes less reserved and more lively whenever he battles just for fun.

* StrongAndSkilled: He's considered one of the most skilled trainers, having a balanced team and knowledgeable in various Pokémon facts. He's often called 'Ace Trainer' as recognition of his skill. Though this trope is played as when he's Liepard Noir, he's more of a [[StrongButUnskilled powerhouse compare to Lady Ledian but his recklessness and rash actions often holds back his full potential]].

* WellDoneSonGuy: Although Adrien's not interested in succeeding his father, he hoped that competing in the Kalos League and facing against him would bring his father back. In Chapter 41, [[spoiler: this bites him back during the exhibition match against his father. Adrien took pleasing Gabriel as top priority during the battle that he was out of sync with his Mega Gallade, resulting him unable fully use the new abilities and potential of his Pokémon's Mega Evolved Form]].
* WellExcuseMePrincess: Liepard Noir invokes the quote with Marinette in Chapter 39, completely butchering it with Pokémon puns.

* WhatTheHellHero: Combined with SkewedPriorities as Liepard Noir, he and his Pokémon frequently [[TakingTheBullet take the hit]] for Lady Ledian. She calls him out on it in Chapter 51 during a confrontation with Team Akuma in Frost Cavern, as Gallade holding back the Akuma Grunts' Houndour left Liepard Noir defenseless. [[spoiler: The Grunts took advantage and captured Liepard Noir to drain his Key Stone of Yveltal's power]].

Although having no interest in becoming the next Champion, Adrien enjoys the freedom that comes with his Pokémon journey. From exploring the Kalos region to meeting a variety of Pokémon, some of which end up joining him in his journey. Sharing a close bond with their trainer, Adrien's Pokémon are known for their balance dynamic under his tutelage despite each having some unique quirks and personalities, some which they share with Adrien.

* NotSoAboveItAll: All of Adrien's Pokémon developed more serious and focused personalities by their final evolution. They all still retained their more comical and goofy sides however, with Plagg still a lazy glutton, Gallade sharing his trainer's sense of humor, and Pyroar going along with his trainer's whim to please his crush.

Adrien's starter Pokémon. Met at Professor Damocle's Pokémon reserve. Lazy, sarcastic, and gluttonous, but he really does care for Adrien's well-being, just like his Kwami counterpart.

* BrilliantButLazy: Quite a powerful Pokémon that was able to last a few rounds in the [[ElementalRockPaperScissors Fighting-type]] Shalour Gym, but is all around unmotivated unless cheese is involved.

* DarkIsNotEvil: A Dark-type Pokémon that's not very sociable, but Plagg is far from evil. Just a lazy snarker at worst.
* FourLegsGoodTwoLegsBetter: Plagg as a Purrloin can often switch between walking on all fours to bipedal, though as as a Liepard, he's a quadrupedal Pokémon. [[RealityEnsues This does make it difficult for Plagg to attack with his front paws while constantly in motion at the same time as it is more tiring for him than it was back when he was a Purrloin]].

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Tends to [[CatsAreMean annoy]] and [[CatsAreSnarky snark]] at his Trainer, at times while [[ItAmusedMe enjoying his frustrated reactions]]. Is also described to be the least social Pokémon, [[FoodAsBribe requires to be fed Moo Moo Farm cheese]] [[BrilliantButLazy to be put into action]]. But he does have a strong sense of loyalty to those he considers friends, particularly [[IfItsYouItsOkay Tikki]], and was described as [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness "uncharacteristically serious and determined"]] when [[spoiler: facing Team Akuma for the first time in Chapter 20]] as they were a threat to his Trainer and friends. In addition, he really does care for Adrien's well-being, with his lazy tendencies encouraging Adrien to relax more. He even appeared genuinely happy for Adrien by the end of Chapter 34, giving him a nod of satisfaction [[spoiler: after escorting Marinette home]].

* ParrotPetPosition: As a Purrloin, he would sometimes ride on Adrien's shoulders when outside his Poké Ball. As a fully grown Liepard, he can't do that anymore.

* StarterMon: Adrien's first Pokémon.

Adrien's second Pokémon. Caught off screen in Route 4. Represents Adrien's maturity and nobility, as well as being a feline-based Pokémon.

* ButtMonkey: Downplayed. While he wasn't thrilled over being reduced into a ride Pokémon for his Trainer, even though it's mostly to help fight against Team Akuma, he's taken the role with stride overtime. [[spoiler: Played straight over the fact that he winds up becoming infatuated with the opponent every time he's sent to battle onscreen]].

* PantheraAwesome: A feline-based Pokémon that's inspired by real life lions.

Adrien's third captured Pokémon. Caught in Route 4 at the same time Marinette captures his friend. A little more outgoing than Marinette's Ralts and rather adventurous, he takes on Adrien's true personality along the way.

Adrien's fourth Pokémon caught off screen. Represents Adrien's supportive role as Cat Noir.

Adrien's fifth Pokémon. Encountered at Glittering Cave. Represents Adrien's lonely nature, at least with Cubone. Also wields a staff like Cat Noir does.

* BirdsOfAFeather: Going by her species' [[DarkAndTroubledPast depressing background]] and their moniker as the [[OrphansOrdeal Lonely]] Pokémon, it's implied Adrien kindness and compassion towards Cubone also stems from understanding and empathizing with the Pokémon, knowing what it's like to [[MissingMom lose a parent]].
* ClingyJealousGirl: Cubone is hostile towards Marinette and Chloé, especially when the latter [[NoSenseOfPersonalSpace starts clinging onto Adrien]]. [[spoiler: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]] after [[CharacterDevelopment evolving into Marowak and mellowing out upon maturing]], but is still very protective over Adrien and sees [[TheKlutz Marinette]] as a potential threat to his well-being]].

** In Chapter 29, Adrien mentioned that when Chloé got too clingy with him when they reunited in Coumarine City, the first thing Cubone does is whack the spoiled brat on the shin with her cub just to give Adrien some space.

* ProperlyParanoid: Cubone/Marowak is overprotective towards Adrien, especially towards human girls, but not without reason. She knows how popular Adrien with the many suitors he has, but is too polite and kind to turn them down. Combine with how clingy some of them get with Adrien (i.e. Chloé and Lila), she's wary that they'll violate Adrien's personal space without consent.[[spoiler: This suspicion is proven true when Lila [[ForcefulKiss kiss]] Adrien without his consent in Chapter 48]]. Although she knows that Marinette has cleaner intentions compared to his fangirls, she's still cautious on the chances that Marinette might be a liability towards Adrien due to her [[TheKlutz clumsy nature]].

* ShockAndAwe: Knows Thunder Punch, presumably to handle her weakness against Water Pokémon.

* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Is the only known female Pokémon on Adrien's team.

The main stars of the story, the ''WesternAnimation/MiraculousLadybug'' protagonists imported into the world of Pokémon. A pair of young Pokémon Trainers undergoing their [[ComingOfAgeStory individual journeys]] while taking it upon themselves to protect Kalos and loved ones after their first encounter with Team Akuma.

* MagicalAccessory: Marinette's earring and Adrien's ring. They're [[TransformationTrinket Key Stones to help invoke Mega Evolution]], [[spoiler: but they also have drops of power from Xerneas and Yveltal, respectively. Power that can remove the forced Bond Hybrid transformation inflicted by Team Akuma from a person and their Pokémon and restore their integrity. They're why Poison Moth is openly launching attacks on Kalos to draw them out as he believes the Key Stones would lead him to the mentioned OlympusMons]].
* PaperThinDisguise: Unlike the main series where their costumes were produced by magic, Marinette and Adrien had to acquire their superhero costumes on their own (Marinette made her own while Adrien covertly used his wealth and resources to acquire his) and find opportunities to change without others finding out. But given that this is the [[JustifiedTrope Pokemon universe]], no one can really tell it’s them under the masks. They make Team Rocket proud.
* RedOniBlueOni: Zigzagged. Marinette is the emotional Red Oni to Adrien’s reserved Blue Oni. However, Lady Ledian is the collected Blue Oni compared to the reckless Red Oni that is Liepard Noir.

* TechnicianVersusPerformer: Zigzagged. In general, Marinette is the Performer to Adrien’s Technician. But in their hero costumes, Lady Ledian focuses more on tactics while Liepard Noir, despite being [[InformedAttribute highly educated on Pokémon moves and abilities]], is more bold and reckless in his battle style.

The leading protagonist we follow starting her Pokémon journey in the Kalos region, hoping to gain inspiration for her fashion designs and to learn more about Pokémon. She also aims in competing in the Kalos League in hopes of being closer to Adrien than she was back in Lumiose Trainer Academy. Is also part of the duo that actively thwarts Team Akuma's schemes, donning the persona of Lady Ledian.

* ActionGirl: Marinette, naturally as she is a Pokémon trainer and takes this UpToEleven as her Kalos defender counterpart, Lady Ledian, when it comes to facing Team Akuma.

** Never insult or demean her Pokémon in anyway.

** When calling upon her Ledyba/Ledian, Marinette uses “Tikki, spots on!”
** Also, when Marinette catches a new Pokémon or wins a gym badge, she yells, “Miraculous Ledyba/Ledian!” The Ledyba/Ledian part depended on the stage Tikki is in.

* ClingyJealousGirl: Is prone to jealousy whenever a girl flirts or gets too close for comfort to Adrien, which causes her to act irrationally when pushed too far, but she reserves this for Chloé and later Lila. [[spoiler: Lila's act of leading Adrien away and [[ForcefulKiss kissing him]] was enough to impulsively drive Marinette to wear her Lady Ledian mask and just like in the main show, it made her call out Lila on her lies in Chapter 48, humiliating Lila in from of Adrien, which renders her vulnerable to become Team Akuma's Bond Hybrid]].

* CombatPragmatist: Her battle style since her Pokémon in general are not particular powerhouses.
* CrushBlush: Marinette’s default reaction around Adrien early on in the story, often described to [[UpToEleven ridiculous levels]].

* CutenessProximity: Her common reaction towards [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter small, cute Pokémon]] like Pikachu and Dedenne. Unfortunately both are [[ShockAndAwe Electric-Type]] [[HarmlessElectrocution Pokémon]]. HilarityEnsues.

* FeminineWomenCanCook: As her parents own a bakery, Marinette has some skills in baking, particularly bakery goods and Poké Puffs that her Pokémon enjoy. This is shown in Chapter 34 where, with the help of her party, baked plenty of goods for both Adrien and her Pokémon team. Alya has encouraged her to use her baking skills more often to [[ThroughHisStomach increase her chances with Adrien]].

* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: Her Pokémon team mostly consists of either cute or feminine Pokémon, often has romantic fantasies about Adrien and is an aspiring fashion designer. That being said, she's also a Pokémon Trainer competing for the Kalos League and was willing to rock-climb in the Cyllage Gym.
* GracefulLoser: In Chapter 55 [[spoiler: after losing to Chloé in their rematch and despite her rival's UnsportsmanlikeGloating, Marinette keeps it together long enough to actually congratulate Chloé on her victory, which actually sours it for her as Chloé wanted Marinette to be miserable over it]] Though downplayed as[[spoiler: she does still feel saddened over the fact that she lost to Chloé of all people, which she shows after Chloé left]].

** Marinette suffers a brief and minor one in the Parfum Palace tag battle during the first round, wherein she is eliminated first and Adrien had to fight off [[OfficialCouple Ivan and Mylène]] on his own. Despite being able to move on to the next round, Marinette felt humiliated for holding Adrien back and ran off before Adrien found her and snapped her out of it.

* ImagineSpot: As usual, Marinette's imagination tends to go to the extreme for either the best or the worst possible consequences, usually the latter due to worrying about either losing a Pokémon battle or getting Adrien to notice her. All played for laughs.

* StepfordSmiler: Marinette manages to keep her cheerful façade together in Chapter 55 [[spoiler: after she lost to Chloé in their second match, even congratulating the latter on her victory]]. Alya commends her for it, as it would be something she herself cannot do.

* TookALevelInBadass: In the flashback in Chapter 1, Marinette was timid and she feared that experience in Professor Damocles' lab before Tikki and Adrien helped her. * WeakButSkilled: Marinette's Pokémon aren't powerhouses compared to Adrien's, a fact she herself acknowledges. Although not reliant on pure power, they prove to be a formidable team with the combination of having some tricks up their sleeves, Marinette's quick-thinking, and a bit of luck.

* BadassAdorable: The majority of her team are comprised of cute-looking Pokémon who are all competent in Pokémon battles. Even her not-so-cute-ones; specifically Feebas, can surprisingly be [[UglyCute consider cute in a way]]. Her Gardevoir and Leavanny were cute back when they were Ralts/Kirlia and Sewaddle/Swadloon respectively before both evolving into LadyOfWar.

* MagikarpPower: Three of Marinette's Pokémon started off with low stats and limited movepool sets, but under Marinette's care they can/were able to fully realize their potential:

** Togepi due to the fact she's a baby Pokémon and doesn't have high stats, something that Jalil pointed out during Marinette's Shalour Gym Battle. Evolving into Togetic from the close bond she shares with Marinette makes her a StoneWall, but her offensive stats are still low. Once she evolves into Togekiss via Shiny Stone, she becomes a MightyGlacier.

* PoorPredictableRock: Her team downplays this as they are a mixture of Pokémon, but it's noted that half of her team are weak against [[ShockAndAwe Electric-Types]] (Tikki, Togepi/Togetic, Feebas) and [[AnIcePerson Ice-Types]] (Tikki, Sewaddle/Swadloon/Leavanny, Togepi/Togetic). Naturally, the Lumiose City Gym prove to a challenge due to specializing in Electric-Types.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Most of her Pokémon are absolutely adorable, especially her Togepi/Togetic and Spinda.
* TrueCompanions: One of the reasons why Marinette's growing into a competent Pokémon trainer is because of the close bond she formed with her party. In return, her team continues to support her during the journey as she does for them.

* ActionGirl: Tikki is of Marinette's key Pokémon in battles, having defeated several of the Gym Leader's strongest Pokémon. Particularly during Marinette's battle against the Shalour Gym Leader where she faced off against a Mega Evolved Lucario and ''won''.

* AHandfulForAnEye: Not exactly for an eye, but [[spoiler: Tikki unintentionally helped Marinette discover this as part of her trainer's tactic in countering Nadja's Electric Pokémon in their Gym battle [[ChekhovsGun (which was discovered during her practice battle against Alya and Electabuzz)]] by having Tikki punch up dirt and cover them in it to hinder their electricity. It was described as "a crude form of Mud Sport," [[FridgeBrilliance which weakens electric power]]. It worked on Emolga.]]
* HeadPet: As a smaller Ledyba, she would sometimes perch on top of Marinette's head when outside her Poké Ball.

* StarterMon: Marinette's first Pokémon.

* SweetTooth: Loves Poké Puffs and cookies.

* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Tikki is said to enjoy Poké Puffs aside from cookies.

Marinette's second Pokémon, caught at the same time Adrien catches her friend. Encountered in Route 4. Shy and withdrawn at first, she opens up and grows in confidence the same time Marinette does during her journey.

* ActionGirl: She has become a powerful dual Psychic and Fairy-Type Pokémon who's capable of Mega Evolving.

* BewareOfTheNiceOnes: Like her trainer, she's normally a sweet and demure Pokémon, but get on her bad side and she'll subject you with [[MindOverMatter Psychic]].

* {{Synchronization}}: She has the ability Synchronize, which afflicts opponents with StandardStatusEffects that the user takes. So far this ability fails to be utilized twice due to the fact the opponents are Pokémon who are immune to the effects they were inflicted (Poison on a Poison-Type and Paralysis on an Electric-Type). [[spoiler: She is also well-synchronized with Marinette for the most part, such as [[BirdsOfAFeather sharing many personality traits with her]]. It gets to the point that anything that throws their bond into disunity, such as Marinette's negative feelings and doubts, would greatly impede their ability to work well, the prominent problem being Gardevoir timing out of her Mega Evolution]].

Marinette's third Pokémon. Encountered at Santalune City. Represents Marinette's fashion designer aspect.

* ActionGirl: Her introduction established her as a brave Pokémon even as a Sewaddle and was the first Pokémon Marinette used in her debut as Lady Ledian.

* BigEater: Marinette first discovers her when Sewaddle decided to eat her discarded sketch papers, thinking they were up for grabs. The narration in Chapter 34 stated that she had to be held back from eating the pastries and Poké Puffs Marinette was baking. Even as a Leavanny she still hasn't lost it.

* FashionDesigner: Was selected to become one of Marinette's Pokémon because of this matching role. Has also helped Marinette out time to time in making new clothes with her strong and soft silk during their journey, [[spoiler: particularly on her Lady Ledian costume]].

* TranquilFury: Swadloon barely emotes, but was noted to have her normally bored expression to show fury when she was insulted by Chloé.

Marinette's fourth Pokémon, hatched from a Pokémon Egg. Obtained from winning a tag-team tournament in Parfum Palace. Represents Marinette's good luck. Lucky Charm!

* ComesGreatResponsibility: The factor that spurs Togetic [[spoiler: to evolve into Togekiss in Chapter 56 after a painful loss against Chloé. Marinette wanted to make sure the basis of her and Togetic selecting evolution was from their mutual trust and desire to grow stronger together and not out of revenge against Chloé. There was a possibility Marinette feared had the intent to evolve [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity came from the latter]]]].

* TheRival: Develops a tense rivalry against Chloé's Murkrow/Honchkrow, given that they're of opposing types capable of flight.

* SweetTooth: She was drooling over the Poké Puffs that were made by the Showcase Contestants in Chapter 50.

Marinette's fifth Pokémon. Encountered at Azure Bay. Represents Marinette's growth to true beauty.

* FlatCharacter: Is unfortunately hit with this due to her lack of screentime. It probably doesn't help that she's the Fish Pokémon and that the main characters haven't been around water where she could be used more. [[spoiler: She does get a bit of personality in Chapter 45 as a Pokémon that wants to work hard in getting stronger to earn the privilege to evolve into Milotic]]. Marinette's sixth and final Pokémon. Encountered at Anistar City. Represents Marinette's clumsy and cute traits.

* AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal: While working in Anistar Café, Spinda was wearing a blue bow-tie on his collar instead of on his head, the placement signifying him being a boy Pokémon.

* TheBartender: Invoked for Spinda's character as part of the reference to Spinda's Café. Spinda is even described polishing a glass like a patient bartender during lunch time.

* BewareTheSillyOnes: Spinda is an oddball Pokémon who has a tendency to trip and roll around. However, his fight against the three punks reminds the owner that he was a Pokémon that came from Route 21, a route that leads to the Kalos League HQ. [[spoiler: Not to mention his fist-fight with Chloé's Weavile that was brutal for both parties]].

* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Spinda is noted for his oddities whether it's for his reasons for following the café owner, his behavior or how he thinks. Heck, Spinda has ''forgotten'' the reason why he followed the owner back to Anistar City in the first place.

* FacePlant: In Chapter 55, he attempts to strike a cool pose when Marinette summons him during her rematch battle against Chloé... [[TheKlutz only to land face first on the hard floor]].
* HiddenDepths: He knows how to make excellent juice from working in a café in Anistar City, with the author likening him to a bartender of sorts.

* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: [[spoiler: Gets into this against Chloé's Weavile in Chapter 55, brutally exchanging Dizzy Punches and Ice Punches until they both knock each other out]].

* TheOneGuy: The only male Pokémon on Marinette's full team.

* ShoutOut: To Spinda's Café of ''[[VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeonExplorers Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky]]''.
* SixthRanger: Spinda is the last Pokémon to fill up Marinette's team.

* WouldHitAGirl: He won't go easy on female Pokémon. He engaged with [[spoiler: Chloé]]'s Weavile in an old-fashion fist-fight that left both beaten-up and bruised.

The deuteragonist of the story. Child prodigy of the Kalos Champion and groomed to be the next to take the title from him, Adrien yearns for more out of his Pokémon journey and to grow out of his father's shadow. The mysterious disappearance of his mother four years prior still haunts him. Also operates as the other half of the heroic duo actively thwarting Team Akuma, taking on the liberating mask of Liepard Noir.

* BadassBookworm: Adrien was described to be the top of Marinette's class, acing the practical exams, and has been highly educated on Pokémon moves and abilities.

* BewareTheSillyOnes: As Liepard Noir, he is a wise-cracking Pokémon PungeonMaster. He is still a skilled trainer and [[spoiler: as Chapter 43 shows, when he stops joking, he is force to reckon with]].
* BrokenAce: Ranked at the top of Marinette's class at the Academy and has proven to be a very skillful Pokémon Trainer at a young age, on top of being well-liked by his peers and Pokémon alike. Underneath it all, Adrien suffers from ParentalNeglect and WellDoneSonGuy big time. Not to mention [[spoiler: he becomes the most targeted trainer to battle with after his father made his announcement [[ToughLove to show no mercy to his son]] if they want to compete in the Kalos League]].

** Adrien uses “Plagg, claws out!" for sending out his Purrloin/Liepard.

* CatBoy: As Liepard Noir, though he's based on a Pokémon who has both cat and leopard characteristics.
* ChickMagnet: Aside from [[ObliviousToLove unknowingly]] gaining Marinette's affections, he is highly popular due to his "[[TheAce Ace Trainer]]" status and natural good looks. He even has [[AlphaBitch Chloé]] and [[ConsummateLiar Lila]] smitten with him. It comes to the point that there was a huge majority of girls cheering for Adrien during the exhibition match against his father.

* CombatPragmatist: In Chapter 42, [[spoiler: rather than face the two Team Akuma grunts in a Pokémon battle, [[CuttingTheKnot Liepard Noir opted to have his Marowak knock them out before they could even start a battle]]. Since his best friend has been turned into the latest Bond Hybrid, he's [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness not wasting any time on them]]]].
* CrazyJealousGuy: Downplayed in Adrien's case, in which overhearing guys in public talking about how they think they have a chance with Lady Ledian, as seen at the end of Chapter 49, annoys him while passively asserting to himself that he has [[EntitledToHaveYou greater entitlement]] to her than any other guy. [[spoiler: Although he seemed fine if the boy Trainers talking about her challenged him to a Pokémon battle since it would [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown allow him to vent out more stored frustration]]]].
* DarkIsNotEvil: The Pokémon Liepard Noir is based on is known as the "Cruel Pokémon" and it's pre-evolved form is known to steal on unsuspecting victims. * PungeonMaster: Tosses out Pokémon puns, particularly as Liepard Noir, which still induces a LamePunReaction for Lady Ledian, aka Marinette. Strangely enough, he tossed out a few Poképuns as himself early on in the story. Marinette’s reaction towards Adrien, however, appears to zigzag between groans and girlish giggles.

* SpiritedCompetitor: While Adrien's only interested in gaining the Champion title to please his father, he genuinely enjoys the thrill of Pokémon battles. This is prominent whenever he faces against his friends and the stakes aren't high; he doesn't care whether he wins or loses, just the enjoyment that comes from it. It is even noted by other characters that Adrien becomes less reserved and more lively whenever he battles just for fun.

* StrongAndSkilled: He's considered one of the most skilled trainers, having a balanced team and knowledgeable in various Pokémon facts. He's often called 'Ace Trainer' as recognition of his skill. She calls him out on it in Chapter 51 during a confrontation with Team Akuma in Frost Cavern, as Gallade holding back the Akuma Grunts' Houndour left Liepard Noir defenseless. Although having no interest in becoming the next Champion, Adrien enjoys the freedom that comes with his Pokémon journey. From exploring the Kalos region to meeting a variety of Pokémon, some of which end up joining him in his journey. Sharing a close bond with their trainer, Adrien's Pokémon are known for their balance dynamic under his tutelage despite each having some unique quirks and personalities, some which they share with Adrien.

* NotSoAboveItAll: All of Adrien's Pokémon developed more serious and focused personalities by their final evolution. They all still retained their more comical and goofy sides however, with Plagg still a lazy glutton, Gallade sharing his trainer's sense of humor, and Pyroar going along with his trainer's whim to please his crush.

Adrien's starter Pokémon. Met at Professor Damocle's Pokémon reserve. Lazy, sarcastic, and gluttonous, but he really does care for Adrien's well-being, just like his Kwami counterpart.

* BrilliantButLazy: Quite a powerful Pokémon that was able to last a few rounds in the [[ElementalRockPaperScissors Fighting-type]] Shalour Gym, but is all around unmotivated unless cheese is involved.

* DarkIsNotEvil: A Dark-type Pokémon that's not very sociable, but Plagg is far from evil. Just a lazy snarker at worst.
* FourLegsGoodTwoLegsBetter: Plagg as a Purrloin can often switch between walking on all fours to bipedal, though as as a Liepard, he's a quadrupedal Pokémon. [[RealityEnsues This does make it difficult for Plagg to attack with his front paws while constantly in motion at the same time as it is more tiring for him than it was back when he was a Purrloin]].

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Tends to [[CatsAreMean annoy]] and [[CatsAreSnarky snark]] at his Trainer, at times while [[ItAmusedMe enjoying his frustrated reactions]]. Is also described to be the least social Pokémon, [[FoodAsBribe requires to be fed Moo Moo Farm cheese]] [[BrilliantButLazy to be put into action]]. But he does have a strong sense of loyalty to those he considers friends, particularly [[IfItsYouItsOkay Tikki]], and was described as [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness "uncharacteristically serious and determined"]] when [[spoiler: facing Team Akuma for the first time in Chapter 20]] as they were a threat to his Trainer and friends. In addition, he really does care for Adrien's well-being, with his lazy tendencies encouraging Adrien to relax more. He even appeared genuinely happy for Adrien by the end of Chapter 34, giving him a nod of satisfaction [[spoiler: after escorting Marinette home]].

* ParrotPetPosition: As a Purrloin, he would sometimes ride on Adrien's shoulders when outside his Poké Ball. As a fully grown Liepard, he can't do that anymore.

* StarterMon: Adrien's first Pokémon.

Adrien's second Pokémon. Caught off screen in Route 4. Represents Adrien's maturity and nobility, as well as being a feline-based Pokémon.

* ButtMonkey: Downplayed. While he wasn't thrilled over being reduced into a ride Pokémon for his Trainer, even though it's mostly to help fight against Team Akuma, he's taken the role with stride overtime. * PantheraAwesome: A feline-based Pokémon that's inspired by real life lions.

Adrien's third captured Pokémon. Caught in Route 4 at the same time Marinette captures his friend. A little more outgoing than Marinette's Ralts and rather adventurous, he takes on Adrien's true personality along the way.

Adrien's fourth Pokémon caught off screen. Represents Adrien's supportive role as Cat Noir.

Adrien's fifth Pokémon. Encountered at Glittering Cave. Represents Adrien's lonely nature, at least with Cubone. Also wields a staff like Cat Noir does.
