She often struggles with processing complex information like the usual lab banter between Okabe, Kurisu and Daru, or even stuff like homework, hence the frequent remedial classes that she has to take. Moeka is a silent and inexpressive young woman who prefers to communicate through her cellphone. She's looking for the IBN 5100 and is the fifth person to join the lab after Okabe bumps into her taking photos for the newspaper she works at. If left to her own devices, she'll never speak, but will send dozens of gigantic text messages at a time until the receiver is forced to respond. She doesn't contribute to the time travel work, but she sends the first major timeline altering message to the past after she says she regrets her choice in cell phones and wants to redo it.

* TheAlcoholic: Okabe's scant trips to her apartment reveals that she drinks mainly beer or other alcoholic beverages in place of water, as evident by the heaps of cans everywhere, both empty and unfinished. In fact, she drinks them about as often as Okabe himself drinks Dr. Pepper.

* BewareTheQuietOnes: Moeka communicates by using her phone to send messages to anyone frequently and rarely speaks but behind her quiet front is a well combat-trained woman working as a rounder for SERN and willing to murder on the order of her superior, FB.

* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: Of the ShrinkingViolet. Her character explores what would happen if a person who really had such a massive social phobia and zero self-esteem was reached out to by an individual who gave them nothing but positive affirmation. Similar to real-life cult recruitment, people become so dependant on their lone source of acknowledgement that they become willing to violate their own ethics if their person of affection requested it.

* WellDoneDaughterGirl: Moeka desperately wants the approval of her mother figure FB, who is actually Mr. Braun. The lengths she goes to to please "her" include premeditated murder of a friend.

** She rushes back to the lab to announce her feelings to Okabe, but mere seconds prior, [[spoiler:he had reversed the first D-mail. She's warped from the room and subsequently killed in the first timeline.]]
** It happens again in the movie. The only difference is that this time [[spoiler:Okabe is the one to vanish from the room as he is {{Ret Gone}}d out of the timeline]]. She's even interrupted in almost the same spot in the sentence.

[[spoiler:Having delayed Mayuri's death by a single day with each D-Mail he's removed from history, Okabe realizes and explains to Kurisu that the next logical step and possibly the way by which to save Mayuri completely is to delete the very first D-Mail. This D-Mail altered World Lines initially, making it so Okabe could live in a World Line where Kurisu didn't die; so, in order to save Mayuri, he must undo that D-Mail, consequentially killing Kurisu again. Having told this to her and she having spent time understanding the situation fully, [[HeroicSacrifice Kurisu insists and eventually demands that Okabe allow the D-Mail that altered the World Line to be deleted]]. Once he deletes it, Kurisu exists only in the original World Line and before she is stabbed to death by an unknown assailant. Okabe, determined to save her, travels back to the moment of her death in an attempt to prevent it: in doing so, he ensures it by being the one to stab her to death. Failing the first attempt, he returns to reattempt to save her while allowing his original self to believe that she died, and this time he succeeds. So a character referred to as "Christina" by Okabe is sentenced to death by him, killed by him, and brought back to life as Okabe ensures his initial self believes she's dead - all as a means to save her and Mayuri, and the world from World War III.]]

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: In the movie, she gets [[spoiler:young Okabe killed]] while trying to save him. Thankfully, this is [[{{Retcon}} retconned]] in-universe.

In the timeline the story primarily takes place in, she was captured by SERN and forced to perfect their time travel and died not long after. * DumbassHasAPoint: It's kinda mean to call her a 'dumbass' since she really doesn't understand high-level scientific knowledges but she does have sharp intuition when after Okabe, Kurisu and Daru hacks into SERN's top-secret files to understand how to time-travel using the Phonewave, she tells Okabe what they are doing is downright dangerous and also wrong which she's right as Okabe changing the past a few times with the D-mail culminates into traumatic events for him as [[spoiler: he sees Mayuri dies right in front of him multiple times despite trying to rescue her]] which is because of the Alpha Worldline convergence that demands her [[spoiler:death]] as by fate.

* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: She slaps Okabe in the middle of his despair induced breakdown fueled by [[spoiler:Kurisu's death]], which motivates him to [[spoiler:not give up on saving Kurisu and win over fate]]. Funnily enough, the events of ''VisualNovel/SteinsGateZero'' begin because Mayuri [[ForWantOfANail *doesn't* slap Okabe]] after [[spoiler:his failed attempt to save Kurisu, since Okabe gives up on changing Kurisu's fate]].

* KillTheCutie: The turning point of the story comes when [[spoiler:SERN deems her expendable and disposes of her]]. From that point forward Okabe goes through loop after loop [[spoiler:to save her from Moeka, SERN and even the universe itself, which views her as 'dead.']]

** Of course, when the plot gets more involved she's as useless as before, causing her to get worried about Okabe since that's all she can do. ** Her moral conscience becomes a crucial point for Okabe and the others relating to time travel as she knew despite her lack of knowledge in science, she has straight common sense upon realizing that utilizing time travel with the phonewave to tamper with the past for their personal reasons can potentially create horrific consequences for everyone as her [[spoiler:deaths caused by the convergence of the Alpha worldline]] proves it.

* TheNotLoveInterest: Mayuri is Okabe's oldest and dearest friend, and we see how much effort he puts in trying to prevent [[spoiler:her death]]. It eventually comes to a head when Okabe has to decide [[spoiler:whether to save Mayuri or his actual love interest, Kurisu]]. She does have an ending, but it's a very token affair that is basically Kurisu's ending with some different dialogue and no access to the true ending.

Okabe actually spends most of the series scrambling to prevent Mayuri's [[spoiler:death]] to the detriment of some of his other friends, and eventually [[spoiler:having to sacrifice even his love interest, Kurisu.]]

* SmarterThanYouLook: She's not very bright, but she ''does'' have strong intuition and tends to be more emotionally perceptive than those around her. [[spoiler:She's even the one to figure out who Suzuha's father is thanks to actually paying attention to what people say and do more than Okabe or Kurisu would.]]

** Daru may be a goofy, unassuming "Hentai" {{Otaku}} who lives and breathes erotic tropes, but he's also a "gentleman" as he calls himself, and genuinely cares about the wellbeing of his friends. Though he's not cut out for physical confrontations, harming or even thinking of doing so to his fellow Labmems is a good way to piss him off. He also doesn't tolerate shows of apathy towards a friend's suffering, as evident by his reaction towards Okabe's nonchalant attitude [[spoiler:at the end of Luka's route, where he gives up on saving Mayuri's life.]]
** He even takes a major one in the anime version of ''Steins;Gate 0'' episode 16, when Okabe angrily insults Maho after the latter discovers that while also misunderstanding [[spoiler: they were working on the phonewave as the time leap machine in order to save both Mayuri and Kurisu by finding the Steins;Gate worldline]] and Daru, fed up with his abrasive attitude, punches him in the face and tells him off for not understanding how he's not the only one with complicated problems as everyone does too.

* BrilliantButLazy: He's a programming and engineering genius, able to hack into a high-tech research organization and [[spoiler:build a working time machine]], but for the most part he'd rather spend his time playing hentai games or visiting the maid café.

As a result, she would be willing to risk her life and defy her orders to protect them, such as when she rescued Kurisu from being run over by a Rounder car, and during the lab invasion at the end of the route, where [[spoiler:she undergoes a HeelFaceTurn out of loyalty as a labmem, and then getting [[RedemptionEqualsDeath fatally shot]] for her troubles, but not before sending a D-mail hoping she will survive.]]

At one point, she threatens that she knows Okabe is in the lab and is going to come knock until he comes out, but when she actually gets there (Okabe slept through these messages), she gets too nervous to actually try it since the building is too dark. [[spoiler:On a less cute/comical note, her poor ability to interact with others left her feeling isolated and miserable, which made it easy to recruit her into the Rounders and follow any order her superiors gave her.]]

Not so much with her Gamma counterpart, however, who is much less emotionally-attached to FB, though she still considers them an important part of her life regardless.

This becomes the turning point in chapter 8 when he (as a girl) and Okabe goes on a date which ends in awkward failure which follows with her mentioning to Okabe about the incident in May during Golden Week when he walks through Akihabara, {{otaku}}s were shamelessly taking photos of him without permission which pisses Okabe who was there and stand up for him against them with his mad scientist facade but Luka tells everyone he's a guy which causes them to leave him alone then Okabe mentoring him in the Iaijutsu art to toughen him up which Okabe realizes that was a memory when she was male indicating he remembered it from another worldline. It ends with Mayuri pointing out Okabe isn't being himself which Okabe fulfills it by time-leaping and giving the swordsmanship workout for Luka before sending the D-mail to avert [[spoiler:Mayuri's death.]]
