[[folder:Genjuro Kazanari]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch_genjuro.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/HideoIshikawa

Tsubasa's uncle and leader of the 2nd Division Mobile Disaster Response Corps, an organization dedicated to fighting the Noise. A HotBlooded man with insane physical strength which appears to have come from watching action movies. He cares deeply for the Symphogear users and is Hibiki's martial arts teacher as well as Chris's guardian. Revealed in GX to [[FamilyRelationshipSwitcheroo actually be Tsubasa's half-brother]], though whether or not Genjuro himself knows this is unknown.
----
* BadassBaritone: Even gets a CharacterSong to boot!
* BadassNormal: All of his ridiculous strength comes from nothing but ''pure physical training''. Unfortunately, touching a Noise would still kill him.
* BigDamnHeroes: ''Twice''--once for Hibiki, the other time for Chris.
* BigGood: At 194 cm or just over 6'4" tall, he's the tallest character in the series, as well as the highest authority figure to the Symphogear users.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: His actual ability. His punches and kicks are so strong that they shatter the ground, and even make cracks in Finé's Nehushtan armor. The man is able to step in on a fight between Symphogear users and stop them! Not only that. He nearly defeats Finé!
** In [=AXZ=] he also takes on all of the Symphogears as part of a training session and wipes the floor with them.
* ConflictKiller: Stops Tsubasa from fighting Hibiki by punching a {{BFS}}.
* CoolUncle: To Tsubasa.
* EccentricMentor:
** Genjuro teaches Hibiki his unnamed, super-powered SecretArt after she proves unable to bring out her Armed Gear in episode four. Part of the training involves watching action movies and doing forms in {{cosplay}}.
** Later in ''G'', when he gives the trio another special training, he ''sings''. And in ''Chinese''! While Hibiki is willing to sing with him, Chris wonders if he's fine with his brain.
* FieryRedhead: He's big, he's hammy, and he likes to train. Naturally, Chris just can't stand him, initially.
* GlassCannon: Though extraordinarily strong, fast, and dextrous, he is still only a human and therefore lacks the protective abilities of the Symphogears. A stabbing attack that likely wouldn't inconvenience his charges was almost fatal to him. This also makes him completely useless against Noise, which disintegrates unprotected humans on contact.
* GratuitousForeignLanguage: Episode 9 of ''G'' has Genjuro and Hibiki performing a cover of the opening theme to Creator/JackieChan's ''Film/PoliceStory'', in its original language, Cantonese.
* HotBlooded:
** Watch a man teach martial arts to a girl with lines like "Your fists ought to fly like hammers that hit the thunder of the bolt that strucks you!" and the HotBlooded girl responds "I didn't understand a word of that, but I'll try!".
** At the end of the TrainingMontage in ''G'', Chris says to herself that those two are too hot.
* IKnowMortalKombat: Genjuro's idea of training includes watching action movies and playing fighting games, and trying to copy main characters' moves... [[{{Cosplay}} while being dressed like them]]. It includes trying to teach Hibiki [[Franchise/StreetFighter Hadouken]], by having them both dressed as Makoto and Gouki/Akuma. All of this set to a Badass ''Film/{{Rocky}}''[[SuspiciouslySimilarSong -like theme]].
* ImageSong: Two in ''G''. '' Eiyū Kōji'' is a cover of the opening theme of ''Film/PoliceStory'', which he performs with Hibiki. His version of ''Genchaku! Denkō Keiji Ban'' is a cover of Yumi, Shiori, and Kuriyo's song, which is from an anime parody.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: By Finé; thankfully he survives.
* InASingleBound: He can jump from the ground to the top of a building with a single jump.
* InexplicablyAwesome: He lacks any origin for his ridiculous strength and skill, and when asked, his answer is consistently that he watches a lot of action movies.
** The closest we get is that [[InTheBlood the Kazanari bloodline]] has some near-inhuman qualities to it, when you look at his father Fudo.
* LargeAndInCharge: The tallest character in the series and he commands his respective division.
* LargeHam: He can be very dramatic, sometimes.
* LetsGetDangerous: The guy with the AnimeHair and pink necktie in charge of MissionControl? He can beat a Symphogear barehanded, as seen in episode 3. Later on, he also takes on Fine herself and wipes the floor with her, forcing her to resort to a cheap shot to win.
* TheMovieBuff: Action films, to be exact.
* MrExposition: Justified, since he is the leader of the research group. Otherwise, he would leave this trope to Ryoko.
* MyGreatestFailure: Being unable to be there for Chris, for whom he is her legal guardian. He does everything in his power to reach out to her, soothe her rage, and [[TheAtoner make up with her for his failure]].
* ParentalSubstitute: To the girls. He ain't the TeamDad for nothing.
** More specifically, he's the legal guardian of the orphaned Chris and might be for the parent-lacking Tsubasa. Given the absence of Hibiki's family, it's lucky that his paternal instincts extend so widely.
* ProperlyParanoid: While genuinely an outgoing person, he has some reservations regarding Ryoko. The thing is, [[BigBad he's right]].
* RatedMForManly: You thought the Symphogear girls were the only ones to kick ass in the series? Genjuro will prove you wrong by nearly defeating the BigBad with nothing but his physical strength! As he puts it when Finé is bewildered by his lack of Relic usage:
--> '''Finé:''' How is it that you can stand up to the power of a complete relic?!\\
'''Genjuro:''' You wanna know? I eat, watch movies and sleep! A true man needs nothing else!
* RealMenWearPink: He wears a pink tie.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He's a very understanding boss.
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to most of his agency's blue.
* ShipperOnDeck: If the first OVA is an indication, he seems to ship [[LesYay Hibiki and Miku]] together as seen during the reunion short in said OVA.
* ShounenHair: Has matching hair to kick asses.
* ShoutOut:
** To both [[Franchise/StreetFighter Akuma]] and Creator/BruceLee. While training Hibiki in Season 1 Episode 4, he looks almost like the former, and sometime later during the same TrainingMontage, he and Hibiki wore Lee's iconic yellow-and-black jumpsuit. Come Season 1 Episode 8 he uses fighting moves that evoke both fighters. His training methods, however, are more of a mix between old kung-fu movies (especially Film/DrunkenMaster) and [[Film/{{Rocky}} a certain Italian Stallion]].
** Taken UpToEleven in ''G'' Episode 9, as there is not only ''another'' Rocky-style TrainingMontage (including Tsubasa and a very unenthusiastic Chris this time!), but he actually sings the theme song of ''[[Creator/JackieChan The Police Story]]'' (in Cantonese!) with Hibiki to accompany it...you'd have to be deaf to think his singing voice ''isn't'' an impersonation of Creator/IsaoSasaki.
* TeamDad: He's a very caring person, who can stop the fight between Tsubasa and Hibiki, and comforts the broken Chris. He's also Chris's legal guardian and Hibiki's sensei in terms of martial arts.
* ThrowingDownTheGauntlet: Genjuro doesn't usually fight women, but he'll do an exception if said woman wants to hurt someone under his protection.
* UnusualEyebrows: Of the forked kind, matching his [[HotBlooded fiery]] [[BoisterousBruiser personality]].
* WouldHitAGirl: Genjurou is a gentleman, but he makes an exception for villains.

!XDU
* AdaptationalWimp: Sort of. Genjuro in Kanade's parallel-verse isn't into an action-movie thus he can't perform a Super Human-level feat as his prime counterpart can. Genjuro can only surprised when Hibiki mentions how crazy powerful his other self is.
* TookALevelInBadass: And yes, he can. The only thing that stops him from CurbStompBattle anything in the main series is that he lacks the ability to fight the Noise. In XDU one of his parallel-verse gains access to a special gauntlet which used a sort of modified Symphogear technology invented by Fine due to the lack of Symphogear users in this world. It's generated a BattleAura make him able to fight Noise. He Curb-Stomp them as you can be expected. However, the gauntlet can only last in a short span of time and required some time to recharge its power before able to use it again.

[[folder:Shinji Ogawa]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch_ogawa.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/SoichiroHoshi

An agent of the 2nd Division who also acts as Tsubasa's manager for her idol cover. He's also a highly-skilled ninja.
----
* BadassFamily: The final season reveals that he's part of his own clan, the Ogawas, who have many family members spread across the globe, all of them having a variety of capable skillsets.
* BadassNormal: Not as much as Genjuro, but he has his moments. Suddenly shows it off extensively in episode 9 of ''G'' (see below), showcasing that he may be more powerful than he looks.
** AllThereInTheManual: [[http://symphogear.blogspot.com/2013/07/summary-of-new-keywords-from-g.html Turns out this is justified.]]
* BadassInANiceSuit: He always wears a black suit and he shows some action while wearing it.
* BigBrotherMentor: Had shades of this towards Hibiki in the earlier parts of Season 1. Arguably, he is this to Tsubasa, being very supportive and loyal to her, and showing concern for her well-being. The fact that he taught Tsubasa at least one of his ninja techniques helps.
* BigDamnHeroes: Is in the nick of time to save Miku from a Noise ambush in Episode 10 of season 1.
* BridalCarry: In episode 9 of ''G'', he carries Shirabe like this when he rescues her from the battlefield.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: We usually don't see how he drives, but [[TravelingAtTheSpeedOfPlot he drives his car at the speed of the plot]], just in time to save Hibiki and the rest of her classmates and he parked while spinning around twice or thrice at high speed. Normal people wouldn't even survive such driving, but because he lives in a WorldOfBadass, his passenger, Maria, is completely unaffected by that kind of crazy driving.
* ExcuseMeWhileIMultitask: In episode 3 of ''G'', Ogawa decides to report back to headquarters while surrounded by a gang of armed thugs. His tone never changes [[OffscreenMomentOfAwesome despite the battle heard in the background]], and by the time the scene cuts back to him the thugs are collapsing one by one.
* MesACrowd: Part of his repertoire of Ninja techniques includes the ability to produce shadow clones, which he both demonstrates and takes UpToEleven in episode 6 of ''XV'' when he creates ''shadow clones of the Toyota Tercel he's driving'' to throw off Vanessa's aim.
* {{Megane}}: He wears glasses as Tsubasa's manager.
* NiceGuy: Has an approachable and amicable way about him, and is quick to advise Hibiki when she first joins. He also has a heroic tendency, between
* {{Ninja}}: As revealed in supplementary notes. He can easily overpower yakuzas unarmed [[ExcuseMeWhileIMultitask while making a phone call]], and taught Tsubasa her Shadow Weaving Technique.
* RightHandHottie: In his cover as Tsubasa's manager.
* ShadowPin: Tsubasa's ''Shadow Weaving'' is actually from Ogawa, a technique that involves a thrown dagger into the opponent's shadow, disabling their movements. As shown in ''GX'', Ogawa can even do this with ''bullets''.
* SharpDressedMan: He always wears a black suit.
* ShipperOnDeck: If the first OVA is an indication, he seems to ship [[LesYay Hibiki and Miku]] together as seen during the reunion short in said OVA.
* TheGlassesComeOff: During serious moments. It's a CharacterTic.
* TheReliableOne: Most definitely. He's the one who cleans Tsubasa's room, a ''girl's'' room, despite he's a man.
* UndyingLoyalty: Maintains this towards the 2nd Division, but it extends to Tsubasa. His use of the Shadow Weaving Technique to let Tsubasa and Maria make a car getaway in the second episode of GX.
* WalkOnWater: In episode 9 of ''G'', where he runs on water with Shirabe in his arms.

[[folder:Aoi Tomosato]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch_tomosato.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/AsamiSeto

An agent of the Second Division.
----
* BadassDriver: In the first episode of AXZ, she shows some impressive skill when she and Sakuya are escaping a giant alchemical serpent summoned by the Bavarian Illuminati.
* MissionControl: Her main job.
* SciFiBobHaircut
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Sakuya.
* VitriolicBestBuds: A little dialogue with Sakuya in GX's first episode implies that they have this dynamic.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sakuya Fujitaka]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch_fujitaka.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KenjiAkabane

Another agent of the Second Division.
----
* MissionControl: His job.
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: During AXZ's second episode when he's carried by Kirika and they ''jump off a cliff'' to a train below, he gives a pretty high-pitched scream.
* TemptingFate: In the first episode of GX, he muses to Aoi that he wishes things would stay peaceful and that no major crisis would arise [[{{Retirony}} until his eventual retirement]]. Cue an alarm for strange energy readings indicating the start of ''GX'''s plot.
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Aoi.
* TwoFirstNames: Both Sakuya and Fujitaka have been used as first names.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Aoi. He shows surprise that she bothered to get him a cup of coffee while they worked overtime.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ryoko Sakurai]]
[[quoteright:220:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/153361_1531.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/MiyukiSawashiro

Head Scientist of the 2nd Division MDRC and creator of the Symphogear.
----
* AmbiguouslyBi: Has a thing for Hibiki and is ''very open'' about it. It doesn't help when she bites Hibiki's ear and then tells her that she ''will be'' the first to [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything pop her cherry]]. Approaches into PsychoLesbian territory since she's the same person who's having an abusive relationship with Chris Yukine. [[spoiler: Her original self, Fine, was in love with Enki.]]
* BeehiveHairdo: Her main hairstyle.
* DeflectorShield: She's able to erect a barrier to block incoming Noise during episode 5. This is the first indicator that she is the BigBad Finé.
* DragonWithAnAgenda: While she researches the Symphogear, she secretly wants to control Hibiki.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: She says she [[BlatantLies drives good]].
* DyingAsYourself: It's implied that Ryoko turned into her original self briefly before she is turned into ashes since Ryoko's eye color and her voice turns back.
* GrandTheftMe: The real Ryoko had her personality overridden twelve years ago when a young Tsubasa activated a relic with her singing.
* HotScientist: Oh yeah! The way how she dresses and her large breasts qualify her for this.
* {{Meganekko}}: She has the personality to fit this.
* MsExposition: Since she's the lead researcher and developer for a Symphogear theory ([[{{Egopolis}} which she named after herself]]), this allows her to explain everything after Hibiki settles down.
* RoomFullOfCrazy: Has an entire room [[StalkerWithACrush filled solely]] [[LesYay with Hibiki pictures]].
* WalkingSpoiler: In season 1 her real self is a major spoiler and the BigBad.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Elfnein]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch_elfnein.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/MisakiKuno

A girl who looks very similar to Carol, who is on the run from Leiur at the beginning of GX.
----
* ArtificialHuman: Claims to be a Homunculus that Carol created to aid in the construction of the Château de Tiffauges.
* TheAtoner: She wants to protect the world to atone for her "other self", Carol, wanting to destroy everything.
* {{Bokukko}}: Uses ''boku'' to refer to herself. This may be a reflection of her rather ambiguous gender.
* EleventhHourSuperpower: [[spoiler: Summons an alchemic shield to protect herself from Vanessa, and summons Daurdabla to don the Faust Robe, abilities which she wasn't shown to have in the past. Subverted in that it's actually ''Carol'' doing this after taking over her body to save her.]]
* EnemyWithout: Inverted. Due to being an incomplete copy of Carol, she's basically a physical representation of the season 3 BigBad before her FaceHeelTurn.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: Goes through one at the end of GX. She starts inhabiting Carol's old body, so her hair is now Carol's gold hue and her bangs face the other way. AXZ shows that she's now started to braid her hair like Carol.
* GoodCostumeSwitch: While never truly evil, Elfnein wears a more sensible white blouse once she joins S.O.N.G.
* InTheHood: She keeps the hood of her cloak up while running from Leiur, only taking it off to enlist Chris's help.
* MeaningfulName: She actually follows the TarotMotifs as well, though in a less obvious way than the Autoscorers. Her name is GratuitousGerman for "no eleven" which doesn't seem to mean much until Carol's song refers to her as "the unneeded card of Justice" (the eleventh major arcana of the Rider-Waite tarot deck) in her bloody quest for revenge.
* TheMole: Carol can see and hear everything Elfnein is currently experiencing whenever she wants. In a twist of this trope, Elfnein is horrified when she finds out about this and begs to be locked away so she doesn't cause any further harm.
* MysteriousWaif: Has a small stature and is currently shrouded in mystery as far as her agenda and history goes.
* NoBiologicalSex: The medical examination she receives from S.O.N.G. reveals this to be the case, although the cast sticks with using female pronouns for her for the lack of a better option. She also claims that such a thing is normal for homunculi like herself.
* ScienceHero: After joining S.O.N.G., Elfnein becomes its expert in heretical technology and alchemy, doing things like giving the Symphogears access to the Ignite mode and decoding Dr. Ver's [=LiNKER=] recipes.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Her initial appearance has her wearing nothing but that underwear and her cloak. Lampshaded by Chris. It was revealed in a Zesshoushinai skit that her ''entire wardrobe'' was nothing but that outfit. After she joins S.O.N.G., she exchanges it for a LabcoatOfScienceAndMedicine that is a bit too big for her.
-->'''Chris:''' "What happened to your clothes?!"
* TakingTheBullet: Protects Aoi from a piece of the ceiling when Leiur's golem makes a last-ditch attack on S.O.N.G.'s submarine. She gets injured in the process but is able to recover.
* TokenMiniMoe: She's physically the youngest and smallest person in the cast.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Has bright green hair. Averted after the end of GX, her hair is now blonde.

!!Kazanari Clan
[[folder:Yatsuhiro Kazanari]]
[[quoteright:245:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yatsuhiro_concept_art.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KazuhiroYamaji

Tsubasa's father and Genjuurou's brother, and a senior diplomat/lawyer. Tsubasa is actually his half-sister on their father's side.
----
* AbusiveParents: Averted; his cold treatment of Tsubasa is his way of making it easier for her to leave the Kazanaris and pursue her dreams.
** ToughLove: He emotionally neglected Tsubasa for years to help her, but all it seemed to do was cause Tsubasa to grow up emotionally stunted.
* BadassFamily: Is yet another addition to the prestigious Kazanaris. Unlike his relatives, however, he's shown to be experienced not in combat, but in diplomacy - he was responsible for effecting Maria's transfer to [=SONG=] and the reason overall for [=SONG=]'s relative freedom and discretion when it comes to acting, despite being a UN agency.
* {{Expy}}: His relation and role to Tsubasa are just like [[Series/KamenRiderBlade Kei Karasuma]]
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:He shields Tsubasa from Fudo's bullet, saving her life and encouraging her to continue singing and protecting people before dying.]]
* ItRunsInTheFamily: Just as Tsubasa pulled a CruelToBeKind act on Hibiki in G, Yatsuhiro is revealed to have done something similar to Tsubasa in the past.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Averted. Since although it takes ten years of estrangement for Tsubasa to figure out why her father acts cold towards her and only with Maria's help, no one dies because of it.
* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler:He shields Tsubasa from Fudo in ''XV'' Episode 9 and he pays for it with his life.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fudou Kazanari]]
[[quoteright:336:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fudo_concept_art.png]]
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/{{Mugihito}}

The original head of Section 2, father of Yatsuhiro and Genjuro, and grandfather of Tsubasa. He's actually Tsubasa's biological father.

* AbusiveParents: Hoo boy. Rather than name either of his sons as his heir, he impregnates his elder son's wife in the name of a "pure bloodline", resulting in Tsubasa. He's also the one responsible for Tsubasa spending much of her early life as a lab rat for Symphogear tests.
* BigBad: [[spoiler: He's revealed to be the one controlling Noble Red in XV for his own goals and then the role is hijacked from him by Shem-Ha in Episode 9]].
* ChekhovsGunman: After being set up in ''GX'' he arrives in a big way in ''AXZ'' and especially ''XV''.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: [[spoiler:He tries (key word being "''tries''") to take control of Shem-Ha's powers by attempting to brainwash her into being his pawn. Shem-Ha breaks out thanks to Noble Red's interference and she then proceeds to show everyone why she's the bigger threat.]]
* TheDreaded: The only one to actually make the HotBlooded ''[[BadassNormal Genjuro]]'' get quiet and obviously scared and nervous. Yatsuhiro is also quite timid around him, while Tsubasa gets very quiet; though in her case she shows signs of quiet rebellion culminating, after Miku first speaks up, calling him out for the first time.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: He's an utter bastard that fully believes that songs are incapable of saving anything and that only immense power can protect things. [[spoiler:Even as his villainous plans to acquire divine power in order to protect Japan fail time and time again to the power of songs, and even when that unleashed divine power gets defeated by said songs as well, he's still unable to understand ''how''.]]
* EvilIsNotAToy: [[spoiler:Shem-ha]] has a view of HumansAreBastards but [[spoiler:she]] didn't attack anyone yet when [[spoiler:she]] first appeared. Thanks to Fudo's attempts to brainwash [[spoiler:her]], [[spoiler:Shem-ha]] is now on the warpath and [[spoiler:she]] makes her first move: [[spoiler:reactivating the Frontier on the Moon.]]
* HateSink: Ooh boy. Every time he appears on the screen, the audience wants nothing more than for somebody, anybody to go and punch his face in.
* HeroKiller: [[spoiler:He ends up killing Yatsuhiro in ''XV'' Episode 9 when the latter takes a bullet for Tsubasa.]]
* HonorRelatedAbuse: There's Tsubasa's entire childhood to look at, as well as his sons and daughter-in-law. He also treats his subordinates in SONG as "family," meaning, should he feel sufficiently "dishonored", there will be hell to pay.
* ILetYouWin: [[spoiler: Intentionally leaves himself wide open to Amalgalm Tsubasa's attack so that he can go down in history as a Protector of Japan, not unlike how Dr. Ver tried to do the same back in G to go down as a "hero". Genjuro even makes sure he doesn't die for similar reasons, in addition to making sure Tsubasa [[HeWhoFightsMonsters doesn't end up going down the same road Fudou did.]] ]]
* JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope: With how abhorrent a human being Fudou is from the moment of his introduction, it seems like this would be an impossible trope for him, but when he's backed into a corner in ''XV'', he finds a way to descend to all-new depths of repugnance.
* KarmaHoudini: Not once has he ever had to face consequences for his despicable, and often illegal, actions. [[spoiler:Until ''XV'' Episode 9, that is.]]
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: [[spoiler:His days as a KarmaHoudini finally ran out in ''XV'' Episode 9. First, the episode sees Noble Red derailing his plans by freeing Miku/Shem-ha, thus foiling his attempts to brainwash her in order to take control of her power. Then he is defeated by Tsubasa in a fight and Genjuro stops her before she can kill him. Finally, he gets to witness the fruits of his hubris when Shem-ha reactivates the Frontier that is on the Moon, putting not just Japan but ''the entire world'' in danger once again. As a result, he's arrested and detained for his actions in Episode 10.]]
* KillingIntent: The moment Genjuro and other Agents of S.O.N.G. enter the same room as him in the Kazanari Manor, he flares a massive surge of this for a split second. [[spoiler: During his fight with Tsubasa, his aura as a whole takes the shape of an Oni Wielding a sword, as an extension of his previous flash of intent.]]
* MoleInCharge: [[spoiler: TheStinger of Episode 3 of XV reveals that he is the one aiding the remnants of the Bavarian Illuminati in exchange for delivering him artifacts.]]
* TheNeidermeyer: The most classic definition. He is so wrapped up in his irrational belief that his bloodline alone has some kind of bizarre "sacred duty" to be the sword protecting Japan from all enemies, foreign and domestic, that he provides absolutely zero aid to SONG, whether in terms of materials, personnel, or intelligence, and has in fact actively hindered SONG on several occasions, yet the moment SONG faces a defeat or setback, he immediately takes it as an unforgivable personal insult because his bloodline's "honor" has been trampled. There's his behavior under the PointyHairedBoss entry, and the worst part, SONG has to suffer his intolerable behavior and attitude because if he feels sufficiently "dishonored," he can and will have SONG's funding cut, leaving the entire organization dead in the water, both figuratively and literally, until he learns he has no idea what he's doing and presses everybody back into service without even an apology or an update on the situation.
* PointyHairedBoss: As if his self-righteous zealotry wasn't enough reason to hate him, every time SONG has to report to him, he can only bark orders, insults, and berate the people fighting to keep the world safe for what he sees as shortcomings, regardless of their efforts, results, or situation. To top it off, he doesn't have a clue on how to do anything but ''look'' important, and preach about how "sacred" his bloodline is and how it's the job of the said bloodline to protect Japan.
* PosthumousCharacter: [[AvertedTrope Averted]]. Though he doesn't show up outside of a brief moment in Tsubasa's flashback in GX, season 4 reveals he's unfortunately still alive.
* PrinciplesZealot: He is so utterly convinced that his bloodline has some kind of bizarre divine mandate to protect the land of Japan that he will do any and every nasty thing he has to in order make it happen. Including raping Tsubasa's mother in order to produce Tsubasa, and forcing the girl into becoming a Symphogear user and a near lifetime of being a lab rat.
* RantInducingSlight: When Tsubasa has had enough of him belittling her and her efforts, condemning her for trusting her back to Hibiki, she retorts that as long as Japan is safe, it doesn't matter whose bloodline is doing the protecting. His response to that is to go totally postal, accuse her of betraying or abandoning her bloodline, and if he didn't have to be evacuated due to an enemy attack, would probably have beat Tsubasa unconscious with his cane/walking stick.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: His eyes glow a mysterious red [[spoiler:after revealing he poisoned the blood Noble Red needs to live since he no longer needs them]].
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: Combined very heavily and inextricably with ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney. Because he, personally, has the entire Japanese economy by the short hairs, he can outright demand The Diet to do whatever the hell he wants. So if he feels "dishonored" for any reason, and he feels you aren't bowing and scraping enough, kiss your livelihood goodbye.
* ShadowDictator: While The Diet is calling the shots in public, he's the one controlling The Diet. So even when the political fallout inevitably occurs, the politicians get shuffled around, but nothing ever truly changes.
* SlasherSmile: [[spoiler: Pulls this off often and to a very nightmarish degree throughout Episode 9 of XV. Dr. Ver would be proud.]]
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Looks like an older version of his sons.
** UncannyFamilyResemblance: Tsubasa looks uncomfortably identical to him. Given the background of her birth...
* StrongerThanTheyLook: Perhaps not too surprising considering who his [[BadassNormal son is]] but Fudou is shockingly powerful for an old man [[spoiler:able to hold an alchemist like Millaarc back just by grasping her arm which shocks and unnerves her. He then proceeds to defeat Genjurō in ''XV'' Episode 9 by punching his son in the gut and performing a SpinningPiledriver on him that leaves Genjurō's head buried in the dirt. He can also hold his own against Tsubasa and it takes Tsubasa using Amalgam to overpower Fudo.]]
* TautologicalTemplar: Since protecting Japan is a noble goal, he honestly believes that any and everything he does in pursuit of that goal is beyond reproach. There is no way to change his mind on this, at all.
* TheyJustDontGetIt: Season 4 ends with ''a nuclear missile'' being launched at Japan to bring the threat of the Symphogear and their enemies to an end. He not only completely ignores the fact that all the other nations on the planet are now willing to take any and all measures, including burning Japan to the ground, if need be, but actually doubles down on seeking out the very powers that triggered the attack, completely neglecting the fact that the nuke was only stopped by a HeroicSacrifice.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: In season 4, when Hibiki has been cocooned inside an energy barrier, he orders the JSDF to fire at the cocoon, without any idea of how the cocoon works, or its intended function, pointedly ignoring the protests of SONG, who were desperately trying to figure it out, and extract Hibiki safely. This triggers a chain of events that makes the US president order a nuclear strike on Japan. If the series was just the tiniest bit more cynical, Japan would have been blasted into a crater, it would have been entirely his fault, and he'd go to his grave cursing the gods, because he's firmly of the opinion that he did his duty, in spite of all the empirical evidence otherwise.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Despicable as he is, he does genuinely believe in protecting Japan from outside threats. However.. [[NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist He's disturbingly similar to Dr. Ver in that he wants to go down as a hero that protected his country]], [[spoiler:regardless of how many people has to die for it to happen as seen when he ordered Noble Red to kill everyone that attended Tsubasa and Maria's concert in ''XV'' Episode 2.]]
* WorldsStrongestMan: Despite his age, Fudou is so strong that he can fight Symphogears with nothing but a katana, displaying strength and speed that even outclasses Genjurō's. [[spoiler: It takes Tsubasa using Amalgalm to win against him and break his sword, which he's utterly shocked by. He then switches gears to getting Tsubasa to strike him down instead in order to go down in history as a hero not unlike Dr. Ver.]]

[[folder:Genjuro Kazanari]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch_genjuro.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/HideoIshikawa

* CoolUncle: To Tsubasa.
* EccentricMentor:
* HotBlooded:
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He's a very understanding boss.
* ShoutOut:

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch_ogawa.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/SoichiroHoshi

* TemptingFate: In the first episode of GX, he muses to Aoi that he wishes things would stay peaceful and that no major crisis would arise [[{{Retirony}} until his eventual retirement]]. Cue an alarm for strange energy readings indicating the start of ''GX'''s plot.

->Voiced by: Creator/MiyukiSawashiro

* BeehiveHairdo: Her main hairstyle.

[[folder:Elfnein]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch_elfnein.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/MisakiKuno

[[folder:Yatsuhiro Kazanari]]
[[quoteright:245:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yatsuhiro_concept_art.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KazuhiroYamaji

[[folder:Fudou Kazanari]]
[[quoteright:336:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fudo_concept_art.png]]
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/{{Mugihito}}

Badass Mustache and Badass Beard were merged into Manly Facial Hair. Examples that don't fit or are zero-context are removed. Having facial hair is not enough to qualify. To qualify for Manly Facial Hair, the facial hair must be associated with manliness in some way. Please read the trope description before re-adding to make sure the example qualifies.

* TheNeidermeyer: The most classic definition. He is so wrapped up in his irrational belief that his bloodline, and his bloodline alone has some kind of bizarre "sacred duty" to be the shield protecting Japan from all enemies, foreign and domestic, that he provides absolutely zero aid to SONG, whether in terms of materials, personel, or intelligence, and has in fact actively hindered SONG on several occasions, yet the moment SONG faces a defeat or setback, he immediately takes it as an unforgivable personal insult because his bloodline's "honor" has been trampled. There's his behavior under the PointyHairedBoss entry, and the worst part, SONG has to suffer his intolerable behavior and attitude because if he feels sufficiently "dishonored," he can and will have SONG's funding cut, leaving the entire organization dead in the water, both figuratively and literally, until he learns he has no idea what he's doing and presses everybody back into service without even an apology, or update on the situation.
To top it off, he doesn't have a clue on how to do anything but ''look'' important, and preach about how "sacred" his bloodline is and how it's the job of said bloodline to protect Japan.

* EleventhHourRanger: [[spoiler: Finally takes her place as the 7th and final Symphogear Wielder during the series finale, wielding Shenshou Jing. With her additional power, the Wielders are able to overwrite the Will of the Gods, freeing humanity]].
* ActionSurvivor: She has no powers, yet she's able to escape certain death from the Noise several times.
* [[AmbiguouslyGay Ambiguously Lesbian]]: It's hinted throughout the show that she might want to be more than just friends with Hibiki. This is especially compounded in G, in which [[spoiler:Ver uses Miku's love for Hibiki to control her through the Shenshou Jing, and the lyrics of ''Waikyou Shenshou Jing'' hint Miku's feelings for Hibiki being much more intense and possessive than she lets on.]]
* AffectionateNickname: Hibiki often refers to Miku as her sunshine/sunflower.
* AntiMagic: The Shenshou Jing relic she uses for her Symphogear in G has the ability to erase relics and anything related to them; this includes Symphogears, the seal on the Frontier, and the Gungnir fragments infecting Hibiki. It even works on [[spoiler:the Curse of Balal]].
* BadassLesbian: ''Symphogear G'' and onwards makes no secret that her feelings for Hibiki go beyond mere friendship. The "badass" part comes in [[spoiler:when she gets her own Symphogear in ''G'' and show [[UnskilledButStrong that despite lacking in training, the amount of firepower she's packing]] allows her to match the other Symphogear users.]] [[spoiler:She later gets her Gear back during the GrandFinale, blasting an entire horde of Custodian mechs and helping the other users save the world.]]
* BadassNormal: A mundane variation. She showed inklings of this trope in season 1 with her ActionSurvivor tendencies, but she officially becomes this when she [[spoiler: uses her track-and-field experience to launch Solomon's Cane into the portal leading to the Treasury of Babylon thus saving everyone's life's from the exploding Nephilim.]]
* BattleCry: Right after [[spoiler:entering the battlefield in episode 10 of ''G''.]]
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: At the end of Episode 9, complete with DullEyesOfUnhappiness [[spoiler:and her ''own'' Symphogear.]]
* BrainyBrunette: In contrast to Hibiki, Miku is a good student.
* BridalCarry: [[https://my.mixtape.moe/mjjujb.webm She ends up on the receiving end of one]] courtesy of Hibiki saving her from Micha in Episode 4.
* CannotSpitItOut: In XV, she actually wants to tell Hibiki something very important that pertains to their relationship and how they feel but just can't express it. [[spoiler:It's because of this indecisiveness that Shem-Ha was able to possess her]].
* ChekhovsGun: Getting hit by the rays of the Shenshou Jing back in ''G'' is revealed in the [[SequelHook last few minutes]] of ''AXZ'' to be responsible for [[spoiler:purifying her of the original sin making her and Hibiki the only two people capable of handling divine power. This comes to fruition in ''XV'' Episode 8 where Miku is possessed by Shem-Ha and is able to transform using the bracelet.]]
* ChekhovsSkill: Her athletic talent finally comes into play in the finale, [[spoiler:when she hurls Solomon's Cane to the warp gate leading to the Noise dimension, sealing it and causing the Nephilim's explosion to kill all the Noise within.]]
* ClingyJealousGirl: Downplayed example but in the second OVA, there's a short where Hibiki tells Miku that she won't be able to make it to the Queens of Music Festival because she's been put into a mission with Chris. Miku's reaction to this is to be worried about Hibiki ''cheating'' on her with Chris.
-->'''Miku''': "Well... Hibiki... I hear that in the past, sailors used to have a different woman at every port."
-->'''Hibiki'''" [[ObliviousToLove "Eh? Sorry, what are you talking about? Is it related to right now?"]]
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: [[spoiler:Her Symphogear (while possessed) is purple.]]
* ContinuityNod: The lyrics of ''Waikyō ・ Shenshou Jing'' include "hidamari" and "memoria". Her ImageSong from the previous season was "Hidamari Memoria".
* CovertPervert: She doesn't show it much, but she's definitely this. It's especially in full force during the ''Zesshoushinai'' [=OVA=] shorts focusing on the events of [[BeachEpisode Episode 7]] where Miku is shown to have brought a camera for the sole purpose of taking a ''lot'' of pictures of Hibiki in a bikini. Hibiki, of course, is [[ObliviousToLove none the wiser]].
* DamselInDistress: Following XV Episode 8, she's [[spoiler:[[DemonicPossession taken over by Shem-ha, acting as her vessel.]]]]
* DemotedToExtra: After playing a rather large supporting role in the first two seasons, Miku's importance to the plot and screentime are diminished in [=GX=] and [=AXZ=], although she's always there to provide some helpful words of encouragement for Hibiki. [[spoiler: TheStinger of the final episode of [=AXZ=] hints that Miku will be at the forefront for the fifth season, however. True enough, Miku becomes a major player in ''XV'', becoming the vessel for Shem-ha due to her ability to wield Divine Power.]]
* EarnYourHappyEnding: And what better way for her and Hibiki to enjoy the moment than to ''finally'' watch the meteor shower together? And finally, in ''XV'' where [[spoiler:she works up the courage to tell Hibiki her feelings, with the latter [[RelationshipUpgrade heavily implied to reciprocate.]]]]
* EleventhHourSuperpower: [[spoiler: In the final episode of XV, she regains the use of Shensou Jing, this time without being brainwashed, in order to help the rest of the Symphogear wielders stop Yggradisil.]]
* FromNobodyToNightmare: She is determined to protect Hibiki [[spoiler:and eventually gets her own Symphogear, going from an ordinary athletic shoolgirl to a Relic user with insane power]].
* HairColorDissonance: She had greenish hair in season one, but season two shows that it's now black.
* HeroicBSOD: Upon finding out about Hibiki's Symphogear in episode 6.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Hibiki. Though the heterosexual part is debatable . . .
** Season 2 [[spoiler: does away with the "heterosexual" part and outright reveals her to be a lesbian by explaining that her ''love'' for Hibiki is the reason why Miku could connect with the Shen Shoujing relic.]]
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:Hibiki uses a reflected blast from Shenshou Jing for its relic-destroying properties, which ends up saving both of them.]]
* HyperspaceArsenal: Her [[spoiler:Symphogear, Shenshou Jing,]] has displayed more weapons than any other [[spoiler:Symphogear user.]] Her arsenal includes:
** AttackDrone: A swarm of floating mirrors capable of BeamSpam.
** CombatTentacles: A pair of them that 'floats' by her sides, not unlike [[Videogame/DissidiaFinalFantasy Cloud of Darkness]]. [[WhipItGood She even uses them as whips]]!
** EyeBeam
** FrickinLaserBeam: Her Shan Guang (Flashes) attack.
** KamehameHadoken: Her Liu Xing (Meteor) attack. It's strong enough to [[spoiler:pierce Chris' and Tsubasa's defense, partly due to [[AntiMagic her relic's nature]].]]
** PaperFanOfDoom: Her main weapon. It's made of metal, but the idea is the same.
* IronicEcho: Her use of consistently telling Hibiki about the shooting stars ends up being denied at the last minute.
* ImageSong:
** [=S1=]: ''Hidamari Memoria'' [[note]]Sunshine Memoria[[/note]], a very happy and sweet song.
** [=G=]: ''Kaban no Kakushigoto'' [[note]]The Secret of the Bag[[/note]], her mundane song. There is also ''Waikyou &#12539 Shenshou Jing'' [[note]]Distorted Mirror &#12539 Shenshou Jing[[/note]], her battle song.
** [=GX=]: ''Itsuka no Niji, Hana no Omoide'' [[note]]A Rainbow from Someday, A Flower of Memories[[/note]], her [[TastesLikeDiabetes disgustingly adorable]] duet with Hibiki.
** [=XDU=]: ''Eiai Promise'' [[note]]Eternal Love Promise[[/note]], [[spoiler:the battle song of her X-Drive form when she uses the Shenshou Jing to battle the berserk Hibiki from another dimension.]] The song returns in instrumental form [[spoiler:during the final episode of the series when Miku uses the Shenshou Jing to help the others destroy Yggdrasil's core.]]
* LipstickLesbian: She's very girly and obviously in love with Hibiki as ''G'' and the ''Zesshoushinai'' shorts show.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: For Hibiki since her presence helps Hibiki during the more emotional stressing events. In fact, an alternate timeline shows a more cynical Hibiki since her Miku left during the aftermath of the Zwei Wing tragedy.
* LoveConfession: Makes ''two'' in XV: the first time in Episode 5 where she refers to Hibiki as "the person I care about" with the wording used being "daisuki na hito" which means "beloved person" and then in Hibiki's DreamSequence in Episode 7 where she says that Hibiki is "the only one [she] can fully give herself to". Then it's heavily implied that she makes a ''third'' one at the end of the series, with [[spoiler:both her and Hibiki]] blushing at each other as they talk to each other. And due to ''Kimi Dake Ni'' playing over the scene, it's quite obvious that it's reciprocated.
* LoveMakesYouCrazy: Once again, her love for Hibiki makes her [[spoiler:go along with Dr. Ver's proposal of using the Shenshou Jing.]]
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: [[spoiler:When she finally gets a Gear voluntarily in ''XV'', it's a '[[ShipTease 'wedding dress]]'']].
* MaybeEverAfter: [[spoiler:The series ends with Miku and Hibiki heavily implied to be confessing their feelings for each other. The fact that a piano version of ''Kimi Dake Ni'' is playing makes the intent rather obvious.]]
* MeaningfulName: "Miku" means "future", though it could also be after the pronunciation of "mic" as in "microphone". "Kohinata" means "a little sunshine" and she's often called by Hibiki as her sunshine.
* MindControlDevice: Her Symphogear armor features this on the back of her head.
* MoreThanMindControl: Although Ver uses the Shenshou Jing to control Miku, her love for Hibiki and her desire for her to stop fighting is what makes it possible.
* MuggleBestFriend: To Hibiki.
* NiceGirl: ''Very'' nice. Whether it's supporting Hibiki in her battles or nursing an injured Chris back to health, Miku is arguably the sweetest, most sincere character in the show.
* PluckyGirl: Just because she's nice doesn't mean she's lacking in a backbone. Just look at TookALevelInBadass below or just watch the second season.
* ThePowerOfLove[=/=]SoundtrackDissonance: It has been noted that ''sheer willpower'' can overcome literally anything, even Symphogears. That last Badass moment was simply her doing what she does best. [[spoiler:Her Symphogear gets to the point where her laser is more powerful than Chris', which was used last season to stop moon chunks, and able to ''disintegrate'' it. And her song is about Hibiki's meeting from the previous season, saying that she completely loves her. Even a fansub decided to use pink cursive style fonts for her love song while said laser rips through a ''battleship''.]]
* PsychoLesbian: Courtesy of being BrainwashedAndCrazy.
* PurpleIsPowerful: [[spoiler:Her Symphogear is purple, and it's far and away the most powerful relic shown in the series.]]
* RelationshipUpgrade: [[spoiler:Heavily implied to be what happens between her and Hibiki at the end of the series with both of them confessing to each other.]]
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: A textbook case with Hibiki. Sharing the bed, jealousy, break-ups and making-ups, the whole nine yards.
-->'''Miku:''' I miss you! I cannot bear not being able to see you anymore, Hibiki!
* SecretlySelfish: She made it clear that she wasn't pleased with Hibiki's Symphogear-related activities in the first season before coming around and accepting it. While she would continue to encourage Hibiki, [[spoiler:Miku has always felt guilt for setting Hibiki down on the path to becoming a Symphogear wielder due to sending Hibiki to the ill-fated Zwei Wing concert that kicked off the events of the entire series. As such, she wants Hibiki to stop putting herself at risk due to a mixture of Miku's own guilt and her own romantic feelings for Hibiki. Being this is the entire reason she was able to wield the Shenshou Jing in the first place.]]
* ShipTease: Miku and Hibiki are roommates and classmates, but they are also close friends, often share the same bed, they bath together, have at least one moment together, and they comfort each other. Not only that, but they also want to go out and see shooting stars. [[LesYay Everyone can see it]], until [[ShipSinking Miku decides to break ties]] after Hibiki hides her new heroic job. It's okay, they get better and the ShipTease has only increased since then. Then it's heavily implied that she and Hibiki [[RelationshipUpgrade get together]] [[OfficialCouple for real]] in the GrandFinale.
* StoryBreakerPower: Her [[spoiler:Symphogear Shenshou Jing is one of the most ridiculously powerful weapons shown on the show. Not only does it have [[SwissArmySuperpower some of the most varied abilities and weapons shown in the series]] it also has the power of AntiMagic making it one of the most dangerous powers on the show. It's therefore no surprise that [[TooPowerfulToLive Shenshou Jing gets destroyed]] by its own power after Miku's first fight with it otherwise the heroes would probably be able to easily beat any seasons BigBad.]] [[spoiler:As such, the Shenshou Jing's relic-killing power was used by Shem-Ha in order to counter Hibiki's own god-killing abilities during ''XV'']]
* ThereIsOnlyOneBed: Subverted. There are two beds in form of a bunk bed, but she and Hibiki sleep on the top bunk. When they have their relationship crisis, Miku sleeps on the bottom bunk.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The girly girl to Hibiki's tomboy.
* TookALevelInBadass: Uses herself as a way of distracting the Noise when Hibiki was unable to activate her Symphogear. She did say she was a part of the school's track and field.
* TrueCompanions: Lives with Hibiki in the dorm and later relies on her in episode 8 when she acts as a decoy. Come ''G'' she joins the 2nd Division to be able to help her friend on an even greater scale.
* UnskilledButStrong: Having received no formal training on how to [[spoiler:use her Symphogear, Shenshou Jing,]] she's much less effective than [[spoiler:the rest of the Symphogear users]]. And yet she still manages to [[spoiler:destroy an entire fleet of ships with just her relic, and even overpower Chris and Tsubasa's ultimate defenses. Her firepower shows up again when she utterly annihilates a horde of Custiodian mechs in the GrandFinale.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: Big things happen in season 2.
* {{Yandere}}: It's been noted that [[spoiler:her song lyrics while wearing her Symphogear hint at her being very possessive of Hibiki and her love]].
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: During Episode 4, when Hibiki finally tells Miku about her doubts, Miku says that Hibiki's fists are gentle and would never willingly hurt anyone.

* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:He shields Tsubasa from Fudo's bullet, saving her life and encouraging her to continue singing and protecting people before dying.]]
* ItRunsInTheFamily: Just as Tsubasa pulled a [[spoiler:CruelToBeKind]] act on Hibiki in G, Yatsuhiro is revealed to have done something similar to Tsubasa in the past.
* PoorCommunicationKills: [[spoiler:It takes ten years of estrangement for Tsubasa to figure out why her father acts cold towards her, and only because Maria was around to explain it.]]
* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler:He shields Tsubasa from Fudo in ''XV'' Episode 9 and he pays for it with his life.]]

[[quoteright:336:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fudo_concept_art.png]]
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/{{Mugihito}}

The original head of Section 2, father of Yatsuhiro and Genjuro, and grandfather of Tsubasa. [[spoiler:He's actually Tsubasa's biological father.]]

* AbusiveParents: Hoo boy. [[spoiler:Rather than name either of his sons as his heir, he impregnates his elder son's wife in the name of a "pure bloodline", resulting in Tsubasa.]] He's also the one responsible for Tsubasa spending much of her early life as a lab rat for Symphogear tests.
* BadassGrandpa: He's capable of facing off [[spoiler:against Genjuro and Symphogear Tsubasa.]]
* BigBad: [[spoiler: He's revealed to be the one controlling the Illuminati remnants in XV for his own goals and then the role is hijacked from him by Shem-Ha in Episode 9]].
* BigBadWannabe: [[spoiler:He tries (key word being "''tries''") to take control of Shem-Ha's powers by attempting to brainwash her into being his pawn. Shem-Ha breaks out thanks to Noble Red's interference and she then proceeds to show everyone why she's the bigger threat.]]
* ChekhovsGunman: After being set up in ''GX'' he arrives in a big way in ''AXZ'' and especially ''XV''.
* TheDreaded: The only one to actually make the HotBlooded ''[[BadassNormal Genjuro]]'' get quiet and obviously scared and nervous. Yatsuhiro is also quite timid around him, while Tsubasa gets very quiet; though in her case she shows signs of quiet rebellion [[spoiler: culminating, after Miku first speaks up, calling him out for the first time.]]
Every time he appears on screen, the audience wants nothing more than for somebody, anybody to go and punch his face in.
* HeroKiller: [[spoiler:He ends up killing Yatsuhiro in ''XV'' Episode 9 when the latter takes a bullet for Tsubasa.]]
* HonorRelatedAbuse: There's Tubasa's entire childhood to look at, as well as his sons and daughter-in-law. He also treats his subordinates in SONG as "family," meaning, should he feel sufficiently "dishonored", there will be hell to pay.
* ILetYouWin: [[spoiler: Intentionally leaves himself wide open to Amalgalm Tsubasa's attack so that he can go down in history as a Protector of Japan, not unlike how Dr Ver tried to do the same back in G.
To top it off, he doesn't have a clue on how to do anything but ''look'' important, and preach about how "sacred" his bloodline is and how it's the job of said bloodline to protect Japan.
[[spoiler: Including raping Tsubasa's mother in order to produce Tsubasa, and forcing the girl into becoming a Symphogear user, and a near lifetime of being a lab rat.]]
* RantInducingSlight: When Tsubasa has had enough of him belittling her and her efforts, condemning her for trusting her back to Hibiki, she retorts that as long as Japan is safe, it doesn't matter whose bloodline is doing the protecting. His response to that is to go totally postal, accuse her of betraying or abandoning her bloodline, and if he didn't have to be evacuated due to an enemy attack, would probably have beat Tsubasa unconscious with his cane/waling stick.
Dr Ver would be proud.]]
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Looks like an older version of his sons.
** UncannyFamilyResemblance: [[spoiler:Tsubasa]] looks uncomfortably identical to him. Given the background of [[spoiler:her]] birth...
* StrongerThanTheyLook: Perhaps not too suprising considering who his [[BadassNormal son is]] but Fudou is shockingly powerful for an old man [[spoiler:able to hold an alchemist like Millaarc back just by grasping her arm which shocks and unnerves her. He then proceeds to defeat Genjurō in ''XV'' Episode 9 by punching his son in the gut and performing a SpinningPiledriver on him that leaves Genjurō's head buried in the dirt and can also hold his own against Tsubasa and it takes Tsubasa using Amalgam to overpower Fudo.]]
* TautologicalTemplar: Since protecting Japan is a noble goal, he honestly believes that any and every thing he does in pursuit of that goal is beyond reproach. There is no way to change his mind in this, at all.
This triggers a chain of events that forces the US president to order a nuclear strike on Japan. If the series was just the tiniest bit more cynical, Japan would have been blasted into a crater, it would have been entirely his fault, and he'd go to his grave cursing the gods, because he's firmly of the opinion that he did his duty, in spite of all the empirical evidence otherwise.
* WorldsStrongestMan: Despite his age, Fudou is so strong that he can fight Symphogears with nothing but a katana, displaying strength and speed that even outclasses Genjurō's. [[spoiler: It takes Tsubasa going Amalgalm just to win and break his sword, which he's utterly shocked by. He then switches gears to getting Tsubasa to strike him down instead in order to go down in history as a hero not unlike Dr. Ver.]]

->Voiced by: Creator/MisakiKuno

A girl who looks very similar to Carol, who is on the run from Leiur in the beginning of the series.
----
* ArtificialHuman: Claims to be a Homunculus that Carol created to aid in the construction of the Château de Tiffauges.
[[spoiler: She starts inhabiting Carol's old body, so her hair is now Carol's gold hue and her bangs face the other way.]] AXZ shows that she's now started to braid her hair like Carol.
* TheMole: [[spoiler:Carol can see and hear everything Elfnein is currently experiencing whenever she wants.]] In a twist of this trope, Elfnein is horrified when she finds out about this, and begs to be locked away so she doesn't cause any further harm.
She gets injured in the process, but is able to recover.
* TokenMiniMoe: She's physically the youngest and smallest person in the cast.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Has bright green hair. Averted after the end of GX, her hair is now blonde.

'''Profile'''
* Date of Birth: November 7
* Age: 13 (S1 E1 Flashback), 15(S1, G), 16(GX,AZX), 17(XV)
* Blood Type: A
* Height: 157 cm (5'2")
* Measurements: B79/W54/H82
* Relic: [[spoiler:Shen Shou Jing, Aigis (XDU), Vambrace of Shem-ha (XV)]]]

Hibiki's best friend, schoolmate and roommate. A kindhearted and gentle girl is Hibiki's number-one confidant; once she learns of Hibiki's secret activities as a Symphogear, she joins the 2nd Division to support her in any way she can. She is very athletic herself, being a member of her middle school track team, and she loves watching shooting stars.
----

* ImageSong:
* MuggleBestFriend: To Hibiki.

!XDU
Determined to save Pararell Hibiki, Miku eventually managed to get her own Shen Shou Jing back from parallel world and used it for that purposed. Unlike in the main series from this point onward, Miku has become the SixthRanger and help out the main cast if situations is called.
----
* BarrierWarrior: She laters get her Aigis relic to combine with her Shen Shou Jing. This Duo-relic allows her to generate a barrier in which it's defensive potential are even exceed of X-Drive.
* BeamSpam: Almost all of her attacks consist of beam attack varieties.
* SixthRanger: As the gang often split up and travel to other pararell world, Miku usually fill the gaps for if needed.
* UnskilledButStrong: More profound than the main series. She technically own both powerful offensive (Shen Shou Jing) and defensive (Aigis) relics but on the other hand are avarage on the other parts as well as much less exprienced than the other gear users.

[[folder:Genjuro Kazanari]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch_genjuro.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/HideoIshikawa

Tsubasa's uncle and leader of the 2nd Division Mobile Disaster Response Corps, an organization dedicated to fighting the Noise. A HotBlooded man with insane physical strength which appears to have come from watching action movies. He cares deeply for the Symphogear users, and is Hibiki's martial arts teacher as well as Chris's guardian. [[spoiler:Revealed in GX to [[FamilyRelationshipSwitcheroo actually be Tsubasa's half-brother]], though whether or not Genjuro himself knows this is unknown.]]
----
* BadassBaritone: Even gets a CharacterSong to boot!
* BadassBeard: A nice trimmed goatee.
* BadassNormal: All of his ridiculous strength comes from nothing but ''pure physical training''. Unfortunately, touching a Noise would still kill him.
* BigDamnHeroes: ''Twice''--once for Hibiki, the other time for Chris.
* BigGood: He's the highest authority figure to the Symphogear users.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: His actual ability. His punches and kicks are so strong that they shatter the ground, and even make cracks in Finé's Nehushtan armour. The man is able to step in on a fight between Symphogear users and stop them! Not only that. He nearly defeats Finé!
** In [=AXZ=] he also takes on all of the Symphogears as part of a training session and wipes the floor with them.
* ConflictKiller: Stops Tsubasa from fighting Hibiki with punching a {{BFS}}.
* CoolUncle: To Tsubasa.
* EccentricMentor:
This also makes him completely useless against Noise, which disintegrate unprotected humans on contact.
* GratuitousForeignLanguage: Episode 9 of ''G'' has Genjuro and Hibiki performing a cover of the opening theme to Creator/JackieChan's ''Film/ThePoliceStory'', in its original language, Cantonese.
* HotBlooded:
'' Eiyū Kōji'' is a cover of the opening theme of ''Film/ThePoliceStory'', which he performs with Hibiki. His version of ''Genchaku! Denkō Keiji Ban'' is a cover of Yumi, Shiori and Kuriyo's song, which is from an anime parody.
* LargeAndInCharge: The tallest character in the series, and he commands his respective division.
* LargeHam: He can be very dramatic, sometimes.
* LetsGetDangerous: The guy with the AnimeHair and pink necktie in charge of MissionControl? He can beat a Symphogear barehanded, as seen in episode 3. Later on he also takes on Fine herself and wipes the floor with her, forcing her to resort to a cheap shot to win.
** More specifically, he's the legal guardian of the orphaned Chris, and might be for the parent-lacking Tsubasa.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He's a very understanding boss.
* ShoutOut:
His training methods however, are more of a mix between old kung-fu movies (especially Film/DrunkenMaster) and [[Film/{{Rocky}} a certain Italian Stallion]].

Genjuro in Kanade's pararell-verse isn't into an action-movie thus he can't perform a Super Human level feat like his prime counterpart can. Genjuro can only surprised when Hibiki mentions how crazy powerful his other self is.
* TookALevelInBadass: And yes, he can. The only things that stop him from CurbStompBattle anything in the main series is that he lack ability to fight the Noise. In XDU one of his parallel-verse gain access to a special gauntlet which used a sort of modified Symphogear technology invented by Fine due to the lack of Symphogear user in this world. It's generated a BattleAura make him able to fight Noise. He Curb-Stomp them as you can expected. However the the gauntlet can only last in the short span of times and required sometime to recharged it's power before able to use it again.

->Voiced by: Creator/SoichiroHoshi

An agent of the 2nd Division who also acts as Tsubasa's manager for her idol cover. He's also a highly-skilled ninja.
----
* BadassNormal: Not as much as Genjuro, but he has his moments. [[spoiler:Suddenly shows it off extensively in episode 9 of ''G'' (see below), showcasing that he may be more powerful than he looks.]]
* BridalCarry: [[spoiler:In episode 9 of ''G'', he carries Shirabe like this when he rescues her from the battlefield.]]
* DrivesLikeCrazy: We don't see how he drives, but [[TravelingAtTheSpeedOfPlot he drives his car at the speed of the plot]], just in time to save Hibiki and the rest of her classmates and he parked while spinning around twice or thrice at high speed. Normal people wouldn't even survive such driving, but because he lives in a WorldOfBadass, his passenger, Maria, is completely unaffected with that kind of crazy driving.
* MesACrowd: Part of his repertoire of Ninja techniques includes the ability to produce shadow clones, which he both demonstrates and takes UpToEleven in episode 6 of ''XV'' when he creates ''shadow clones of the Toyota Trecel he's driving'' to throw off Vanessa's aim.
* {{Megane}}: He wears glasses as Tsubasa's manager.
* NiceGuy: Has an approachable and amiable way about him, and is quick to advise Hibiki when she first joins. He also has a heroic tendency, between
* {{Ninja}}: As revealed in supplementary notes. He can easily overpower yakuzas unarmed [[ExcuseMeWhileIMultitask while making a phone call]], and taught Tsubasa his Shadow Weaving Technique.
* WalkOnWater: [[spoiler:In episode 9 of ''G'', where he runs on water with Shirabe in his arms.]]

* MissionControl: Her main job.
* SciFiBobHaircut
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Sakuya.
* VitriolicBestBuds: A little dialogue with Sakuya in GX's first episode implies that they have this dynamic.

----
* MissionControl: His job.
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: During AXZ second episode when he's carried by Kirika and they ''jump off a cliff'' to a train below, he gives a pretty high pitched scream.
* TemptingFate: In the first episode of GX, he muses to Aoi that he wishes things would stay peaceful and that no major crisis would arise [[{{Retirony}} until his eventual retirement]]. Cue an alarm for strange energy readings indicating the start of ''GX'''s plot.
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Aoi.
* TwoFirstNames: Both Sakuya and Fujitaka has been used as first names.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Aoi. He shows surprise that she bothered to get him a cup of coffee while they worked overtime.

->Voiced by: Creator/MiyukiSawashiro

* BeehiveHairdo: Her main hairstyle.
* DyingAsYourself: It's implied that Ryoko turned into her original self briefly before she is turned into ashes, since Ryoko's eye color and her voice turns back.
* GrandTheftMe: The real Ryoko had her personality overridden twelve years ago, when a young Tsubasa activated a relic with her singing.
* HairDecorations: Wears a nice little butterfly thing in her BeehiveHairdo.
