* KnifeNut: During the Calamity War, the Gundam Flauros was deployed with a pair of hooked knives for extra damage up close.

* ShipTease: With Kudelia, [[spoiler:whom he kisses in episode 13]], and Atra, who made the good luck bracelet on his left arm (and outright asks him to make babies with her). [[spoiler:[[SomeoneToRememberHimBy Atra wins]].]]

* AscendedExtra: Ride had the least characterization of the younger Tekkadan members in Season One. In Season 2, Ride becomes a pilot, getting more screentime and eventually his own custom mobile suit. [[spoiler: He even personally kills one of the main antagonists during the epilogue.]]

* DropTheHammer: His preferred melee weapon is basically a giant metal club. While he's given a katana later in the first season, he has incredible difficulty using such a finese weapon until the end of the season. By season 2, he seems to have split the difference with the Lupus' sword mace, a giant, incredibly thick sword that crushes as much as it cuts. When upgrading to the Barbatos Lupus Rex, he uses a mace once again, only this time the mace's head alone is [[UpToEleven half the size of the entire mobile suit]].

* TogetherInDeath: A platonic example. [[spoiler: After Orga dies Mika's DeathSeeker tendencies get ramped UpToEleven and after he starts to die, he declares the the day the he met Orga was the day he was "born." The last we see of him, he's reunited with Orga once again.]]

* StaticCharacter: Mika's personality changes very little over the course of the series, and the the fact that he isn't learning to think for himself or stop sacrificing his future is played for drama. In fact, several characters worry about him because they know exactly how he will act due to his one track mind and inability to change. At the same time, he has undergone some subtle character development in relation to Kudelia and Atra.

* HairColorDissonance: His hair is pale purple, whereas most of the rest of the cast have normal hair colors. Might edge into YouGottaHaveBlueHair, as even explaining it as a stylistic rendition of gray hair doesn't work, seeing as he's only around twenty years old.

* {{Bishonen}}: A delicate boy whose features and voice are a bit feminine.

* LesserOfTwoEvils: Orga acknowledges that while Maruba was a scumbag, it would be worse to leave the 1st Corps group in charge as they viewed the boys as even more expendable than Maruba did. That and their lack of brains would eventually leave them all dead. This led Orga to decide it'd be best to just cut out the middle man and run the joint himself.

* HandHidingSleeves: He ''would'' have these thanks to his over-sized coat, if he didn't roll them up.

* ToxicFriendInfluence: It's been brought up off and on that both he and Mikazuki have a mutually toxic relationship with one another. On Orga's end, he relies on Mikazuki's skills as a pilot even though it's continually coming at the price of the functionality of his body. Despite his guilt over this, Orga also can't find himself willing to actually bench Mika for his own good. From a certain perspective, the way Orga uses Mikazuki is NotSoDifferent than [=McGillis'=] relationships with Gaelio, Carta, and Ein.

* NervesOfSteel: To an extent that's both impressive and disturbing. In battle, he's basically a murder-robot that sometimes pilots an even bigger murder-robot - he's calm, analytical, spectacularly brutal, and excellent at compartmentalising potential distractions. Throughout the series, he never shows fear and only very occasionally shows visible anger, even in the most dangerous and stressful circumstances. It's very telling that his shockingly out-of-character NotSoStoic moment in his battle with the Hashmal consists of ''slightly raiding his voice to insult it''.

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Given his utter devotion to Orga, his refusing Orga's order to [[spoiler:not engage the Mobile Armor]] shocks Orga and show just how serious a threat it is.

* OlderThanTheyLook: Most viewers don't guess that he's actually fifteen on a first viewing (he's rather short, and the large, baggy coat that he wears continuously when not piloting makes him look smaller). Probably justified in that malnutrition stunted his growth.

It may be valid to interpret him as celibate or asexual, however the fact remains that throughout the series he never shows a shred of romantic interest in women at all and that most of his close affection only shows for his basically all-male companions ends up qualifying him for this trope.
