The Underworld King of Tartaros, second only to E.N.D. in power and rank among the rest of the guild. Mard Geer serves as acting guild master since E.N.D. is sealed away in his book, which he carries at all times. His Thorn Bramble curse allows him to produce an endless deluge of thorny vines that skewer his victims.

The strongest demons of Tartaros besides E.N.D and Mard Geer make up the Nine Demon Gates. Each member holds a unique kind of curse or magical power that gives each of them the destructive power of an entire army.

* UnskilledButStrong: Jackal has one of the most destructive Curses among the Gates, to the point making ''physical contact'' with him will cause an explosion, but in return he notably never shows much skill at hand-to-hand and his strategy defaults to "blow it up" even if he can get creative how he blows things up, such as exploding enemy offensive magic spells. When Natsu reveals he can neutralize the explosions, Jackal's response is to unleash his Etherious Form and try to savagely beat him to death, and when that fails he goes right for a SuicideAttack. When Lucky similarly neutralizes his explosions with her newly-gained [[MakingASplash Star Dress: Aquarius]], Jackal is left just desperately throwing more explosions at her before she takes him down.

* AlasPoorVillain: While Mard Geer is a true demon, his death at the hands of Zeref is quite sad, considering that everything he did was to fulfill his creator's desire and said creator was unmoved by such dedication. Gray, who has every reason to hate demons, is infuriated at Zeref killing one of his own creations so coldly.

* WorldsStrongestMan: He’s the strongest demon in the Tartaros guild second only to E.N.D. in power and his Curse power is so immense, it was enough to scar Kyôka. Mard Geer is also strong enough to fight evenly with the Celestial Spirit King, who’s stated to be the strongest Celestial Spirit. During the battle between Fairy Tail and Tartaros he delivers a CurbStompBattle to the Dragon Slayers Sting and Rogue by toying with them and wasn’t taking them seriously, then goes on fight Natsu, Sting and Rogue all at once while only being slightly more serious. In his Etherious form, he was able to contend with Natsu and Gray at teh same time, being able to shrug off hits from Natsu's Dragon Force and even resist blows from Gray's Demon Slayer Magic, which should normally hit demons ForMassiveDamage, and his most powerful Curse, Memento Mori, was powerful enough to destroy everything in its wake, with it even being strong enough to destroy immortal beings like Zeref himself.

* DeaderThanDead: His "MementoMori" attack, the very worst curse Mard Geer can dish out, not only inflicts immediate death on contact: it wipes out the soul, ending the victim's entire existence. This was by Zeref's own design, as it would have allowed his own creation to bypass his immortality curse and fulfill his [[DeathSeeker wish to die.]] Gray survived the curse because Silver imparted Devil Slayer Magic to his son before passing on, and it gave him resistance to curses as a result, simply absorbing the dark energies and enriching the saturation of Devil Slayer magic power in Gray, making the black markings Silver placed on his right arm expand into a half-demon transformation that mostly coats the left portion of his face and body and causes his left pupil to glow purple.

* PeekABangs: His hair covers an entire half of his face. When he goes OneWingedAngel and the bangs vanish, the covered eye is shown to have a diagonal scar across it and being completely blood-red to match his other completely white eye.

* DoesNotLikeShoes: Her ZettaiRyouiki are the only thing on her feet besides nail polish.

* SatanicArchetype: His Etherious Form, complete with wings, horns, and a tail. According to him, it's why he's called "Underworld King", as he is the "absolute demon".

* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: As the ''de facto'' leader of Tartaros, he is also the strongest member of the guild, if not all of Zeref's demons apart from E.N.D., whom Mard Geer merely parades as guild master to command his subordinates' respect.

* WolverineClaws: Her fingers can extend into long, [[WhipItGood whiplike appendages]]. They're also pointed at the end, perfect for flogging and [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice impalement]].

* SuperToughness: He straight-up tanks several powerful attacks, including two finishing moves from Natsu that barely even manages to stagger him, with no visible damage afterward. Even Natsu's [[SuperMode Dragon Force]] barely chips at him. They only finally manage a grievous blow when Mard Geer is distracted trying to kill Natsu, allowing Gray to hit him with an Ice Demon Slayer arrow straight through his chest, and even ''that'' doesn't kill him. It takes Zeref reverting him to his book form and burning it to finally finish him off.
