- Bleach:
- Tite Kubo came out and said that Ichigo and Rukia's relationship, as it stands, is very close but not romantic. The anime still inserted pro-Ichigo/Rukia Ship Tease upon Ship Tease. At the end of the series, Ichigo marries his longtime admirer Orihime Inoue, Rukia marries her childhood friend Renji Abarai... and sparks seem to be flying between Ichigo's son and Rukia's daughter.
- Kubo also says that Histugaya and Hinamori are Like Brother and Sister, but Hitsugaya's feelings sure don't seem familial to a good chunk of the fandom.
- In the Doom movie, Reaper and Samantha are supposed to be siblings, but if not for the script establishing them as brother and sister, their relationship would be your typical Designated Love Interest Rescue Romance present in many action flicks. It doesn't help that Sam is the only predominant female in the cast, or that Reaper bridal carries her at one point.
Why is this listed as bad writing when the article itself seems to blame the audience for this trope?
Hide / Show Replies"This is about a writer fumbling their treatment of something that wasn't supposed to be a relationship at all"
Can anyone fact-check this, that was added to the Avatar entry?
"Justified, as the writers were still debating whether Katara should end up with Aang or Zuko up until writing the final episode, at which point the network made the final call, with Aang being considered the "safer option" according to series head writer Aaron Eshaz, is not shy about how he wishes they went the other direction."
This is the first I've heard of that - I've always heard Katara/Aang was planned from the very beginning.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now." Hide / Show RepliesFirst off, that's not what justified fucking means. Secondly it's natter. Thirdly, if true, then it's not a writing fumble so much as it's a Love Triangle, which isn't this trope. Fourthly, it's irrelevant since having Zuko as a viable option doesn't have anything to do with Aang and Katara's relationship coming across as more familial than romantic.
Edited by Larkmarn Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I took out one item from Doctor Who: "Another Acting Fumble led to the Richard Hurndall First Doctor in "The Five Doctors" appearing, in one shot, to be checking out his own granddaughter. This scene was considered so bad it was cut out in several reruns." I have been doing research related to The Five Doctors and can find no evidence to back this up. Every frame that has been cut from Doctor Who stories is indexed endlessly online and in books and there is nothing to support that the episode had to be edited for such a shot. If someone can provide a source, they're welcome to put it in, but this one seemed to be a bit too dubious to leave in. I know this wiki doesn't require the same standards of citations as others, but let's try to be accurate anyway. I'm also dubious about the related note about Davison "checking out" Ford but I left that one in as it didn't claim the episode was edited as a result.
This trope should probably be renamed; it gets misused a LOT to mean relationships that were written badly instead of seeing a relationship where there isn't supposed to be one.
Could we add the Carlie Cooper/Peter Parker relationship post-One More Day to this page?
Hide / Show RepliesShould we look for a different quote, or at least add a little qualifier somewhere? While the quote nicely summarizes the trope, the actual characters and actions mentioned are very much intentionally made to cause that kind of weirdness, rather than simply being poorly written or "fumbled".
In the mean time, I'm just going to add a short example for Evangelion under the Anime folder.
I think I end up doing this all the time. A new kid and her mentor come off as Foe Yay, a Tagalong Kid comes off as crushing on the dorky boy in the group, and most recently, a pair of Ensemble Darkhorses who tend to come off as something between siblings and a married couple.
Per TRS, the definition of Relationship Writing Fumble is going to be moved to Friendship Writing Fumble, and the name Relationship Writing Fumble is going to be used for a supertrope for Friendship Writing Fumble, Designated Love Interest, and other tropes and Audience Reactions:
