I think a better name for this trope is Red Eyes of Evil.
Edited by kkj12345This, from the Literature folder, looks like Conversation On The Main Page and there's not really much context given - at least, not having read the books or watched the series, I find myself unable to fix it by simply rewriting the entry. Thus, if anyone is familiar with the books, could they take a look?
- Melisandre from A Song of Ice and Fire is an Evil Redhead as well.
- The direwolves have red eyes. The ones the Stark children have are not evil, but dangerous indeed.
- Only Ghost has red eyes, and that's because he's an albino. The other Stark direwolves have yellow, gold, or green eyes.
- The direwolves have red eyes. The ones the Stark children have are not evil, but dangerous indeed.
Also, again, I lack context, but in this one I wonder if - just going by the description given - the last point qualifies, as the characters mentioned do not sound like 1. evil, or 2. dangerous, or 3. coming off as either due to their red eyes:
- The Thrawn Trilogy:
- Grand Admiral Thrawn, a nonhuman Chiss who also had blue skin, had solid red eyes that were often said to be glowing. Even when he's solidly the antagonist, he is less evil and more ruthless.
- Darth Bane also had red eyes due to his immersion in the Dark Side of The Force. It's a Sith occupational hazard.
- Ysanne Isard actually had heterochromia, one eye being red, the other eye being blue. She's the head of Imperial Intelligence and decidedly evil.
- The same series has the much more minor villain Zekka Thyne, who has red eyes and Hellish Pupils.
- And it has two characters who each have a glowing red prosthetic eye. Neither of them are villains. One, Booster Terrick, is a smuggler who does not approve of the pilot his daughter fell in love with. The other, Ton Phanan, is an incredibly sarcastic ex-doctor hiding the fact that his extensive cybernetics cannot replace the future he lost.

Man, Commander Riker has really let himself go.
Deleted the following from Tabletop Games because just being the recipient of a spell doesn't make you evil or dangerous.
- '"Relics and Rituals''. The Assassin's Senses spell changes the eyes of the character it's cast on to a deep crimson.
In many manga and anime, red eyes are often used a sign that someone is possessed or under mental control. That's different from "evil", and it'd probably need its own entry.
Hide / Show RepliesI don't know about that, actually; while the fact of possession or mind control doesn't make the character evil, it still shows that there's something wrong with them. After all, it's "Red Eyes, Take Warning". It could be "WARNING: This person is under the influence of Demonic Possession or Mind Control. Please proceed to run like hell". Still a warning about the person; those should also count as Demonic Possession, Mind-Control Eyes, or Eyes Are Mental.
What about transformers Generation 1, where, with fewest ecceptions, all the decepticons had red eyes, in contrasts with all the autobots having blue eyes?
The page image is from DA 2 but it is not in the example list. Can someone who has played the game put it in there.
"You want to see how a human dies? At ramming speed." - Emily Wong. What is the exact difference between this and Glowing Eyes of Doom? If the only difference is that this is permanent while that is temporary, a lot of examples should be rearranged.
Should this really be a no real life examples trope? I know it's a morality trope, but it doesn't really apply to humans at all (even albino humans don't have red eyes in real life). Therefore, this would only apply to animals. I'd make an entry like this:
- Zig-zagged with eyeshine. Many animals have tapetum lucidums, membranes in their eyes that reflect light to help them see in the dark. This reflected light makes their eyes appear to be glowing, and the color of the glow varies between species. Seeing an animal's red eyeshine may indicate that it's dangerous — for a human, it could be a black bear or an alligator, and for a smaller prey animal, it may be a smaller predator such as a fox or an owl. However, some docile herbivores, such as rabbits, also have red eyeshine.
There could also be some entries regarding species with fully red eyes that are dangerous. Farewell 🦇
