Okay... Plasma. In the event that we encounter an instance of a weapon that puts out a HUGE amount of plasma fire, would it be Beam Spam or More Dakka? It could be Beam Spam because it's an energy weapon, but it could be More Dakka because it's not technically a beam (...usually.)

What say we take a vote on the image caption: To leave it as "Taste the rainbow, bitch/mothafucka!" or the tamer "Taste the rainbow."? It was pretty comical with the expletives intact but we have an editor at 24.189.243.98 who, due to his/her delicate sensibilities, is being something of a wet blanket and an asshole (oh, wait, they dislike profanity, that should read fucking asshole).

Because our "Welcome to TV Tropes" page states that we do things democratically here, rather than just revert the page myself I'm going to put it up for discussion first. You have my word that I won't touch anything until we come to an agreement, and I'll abide by what the community decides to do with this page, unlike some people who insist that their original intentions be followed (because they're somehow more valid than the senses of humour of thousands of other tropers) and say things like this: "I originally put the picture and the quote there long before... I was actually thinking of..."

Since most of us are able to understand that going out into the world and interacting with other human beings naturally entails exposure to coarse language, and understand as well the fact that TV Tropes is not about us, we're willing to accept that sometimes our "original intentions" are going to be dashed against the reefs and we have the good grace to accept it, get the fuck over it, and move on. As I said, I, for one, will NOT unilaterally decide that the page is better served with the spruced-up quote without getting the community's opinion first, which is what 24.189.243.98 should have done before throwing a pissy fit about durrrty wurrrrds and changing the page to suit their own tastes when the fact that it had already been changed meant that others thought it would be better with a bit of an edge.

So, bitch or no bitch? Motherfucker or no motherfucker? What'll it be? I'll go along with whatever, but let's reach a consensus so 24.189.243.98 has no wiggle room to play morality police.

Leave in the bitch/motherfucker, screw the Bluenose Bowdleriser.

Just because he or she might have put the original caption there doesn't mean shit. As several others of the damn community contributed by adding "Bitch" or "Motherfucker," that shows what the community wants. Just because someone doesn't want to deal with fuckin' harsh language doesn't mean they've gotta piss on everyone else's parade.

(For the record, I'm not really that mad. I just thought adding a cuss to every sentence above would be funny.)

Bold. :)

I'd have left it alone until there was a concrete agreement reached in discussion, but then I'm not going to tell you what to do.

Our Super-Strict Language Policy, for reference.

In this specific case, "motherfucker" is a valid intensifier, since without it, the "taste the rainbow" is meaningless. Without the motherfucker, it's just a random pop culture reference. With the motherfucker, it becomes a one-liner action quote much like those that often accompany use of the trope.

You may notice that Mr Death did not restore the references to Nostalgia Critic and Samuel L. Jackson. This was by design, since those Pot Holes take us in the wrong direction and turn the captions into random pop culture references again.

It's been vandalized again. Some Guy, can I safely assume you're in favour of keeping the "motherfucker" due to its being, as you said, a verbal intensifier similar to those found in action-flick dialogue? If so, we're three for, zero against on keeping the profanity. I'm hoping this constitutes the community consensus I'm looking for to legitimately be able to edit it back, but I'm not going to declare it myself.

24.189.243.98, not sure what kind of good you think you're doing here. So far it looks like you're outnumbered. Also, shit piss fuck cunt cocksucker motherfucker tits. Have a nice day.

I don't recall saying anything was "inappropriate", so please stop making me out to be some kind of moral guardian trying to "censor" you. I just honestly didn't think it was funny, but if the majority disagrees, I'm not going to keep fighting it. After all, it's not hurting anyone, fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck!

Also, Mr Death and Some Guy, thank you for elaborating, now that I understand the system a little better, I actually agree with you. Same to Celticwhisper, but you're misinterpreting my preference on this particular quote for a disapproval of profanity in general, but that is absolutely not the case, you cocksucking assfucking piece of shit!

Like Mr Death, I don't mind using profanity if it's all in good fun, I believe it's the context that makes things offensive, not the words themselves, which is why I'm now apparently doing it as form of initiation. Even considering that, the way you addressed me was still completely uncalled for, hopefully that was only because of our misunderstanding and we can try being a little more friendly next time, if not necessarily less profane, you fucking asshole.

Your initial edit said, "And please stop adding curse words at the end of it." That's what we construed as the Moral Guardian part.

I apologize for being so antagonistic. Moral Guardian's are an annoyance for me, so that's why I reacted the way I did.

Understood and agreed, besides even without the disclaimer, you were just being profane, not rude.

Although I did say "it's really not funny" at the end of that sentence, but I guess that wasn't clear enough. Instead of specifically saying "bitch" and "motherfucker", by using "curse words" I meant to encompass both within a shorter sentence, but I guess it seemed like I had an aversion to the words themselves, which is of course complete fucking bullshit.

I also said "I'm sure nobody was terribly offended, if that's what you think this is about. I just think it just delivers the point much more gracefully without it." with those links before Celticwhisper went on that huge tirade at the top of this page. I did nothing wrong.

And I still stand by my edit comments, the lack of profanity really does deliver the line much more smoothly, but I now realize that may be the wrong approach considering the kind of characters most likely to use the line.

I would have to vote for leaving in the "bitch". As noted at the end of the last post, the profanity truly deilivered the specific line with the force needed. Beam Spam usually means "A helluva lot of attacks". With the "bitch" at the end, you get the feeling of Rambo, only with lazers. Even the qoute at the top of the page seems to agree.

Since it's a 4-0 vote in favor of the profanity, I shall re-add the "bitch" in the end. Remove it if you may feel it necessary, but be sure to add your reasons here. As said before, this is a democracy based decision, and 24.189.243.98 has been outvotted.

Sorry, I meant a 4-1 vote in favor of the profanity. I also meant "the post above mine" instead of "the post at the top of the page".

The troops are a group decision, so if more people feels the curse should stay, it stays. Despite the fact that one or more people disaprroves.

The previous discussion was more of an unwarranted "freedom of speech" argument than anything, which was a bit off point, but a vote in favor profanity regardless. Still, hear me out.

Rather than being spoken by the Hot-Blooded shooter, who is more likely just screaming unintelligibly anyway, if you look at it from a the perspective of a calmer 3rd person commentator or narrator, taking out the expletives and making it a smoother Pre-Mortem One-Liner just sounds much better than a forced Shadow the Hedgehog esque "intensifier", imo...

I must disagree on the point that the shooter is most likely screaming unintelligibly. Think along the lines of the snarky comments you get from StarCraft units when you click on them or when they're in combat. "Need a light?" "My goose is gettin' cooked..." Consider also the Deadpan Snarker Anti-Hero character types commonly featured in anime (where Beam Spam of the variety shown in the page image is frequently featured). You're just as likely to find a Spike Spiegel pulling the trigger as you are a Goku or a Shinji Ikari.

Well, it sounded like you guys were going for the Hot-Blooded Rambo kind of character or, at the most articulate, an Arnold Schwarzenegger or non-Jedi Samuel L. Jackson character, I thought that was the whole reason why you wanted the expletive in the first place.

But if we're going for that kind of approach, I stand by my first point. Look at the quotes you just posted, that's what I was trying to go for; a Pre-Mortem One-Liner delivered by a Deadpan Snarker just sounds more calm and sarcastic without that ugly little "punch" at the end.

Well, different strokes. "Calm and sarcastic" may not equal "funny and entertaining". The two ways described features two different characters; a calm, poised badass, and a rough, take-no-prisoners, I'm totally outnumbered but fuck you anyway badass. They feature a different form of entertainment. It is perfectly legible that he may indeed be screaming like a madman, or, most likely, is fed up, and decided to unload his payload on the bastard. What's personally funny to one does not make it funny for all.

Regardless, a majority vote still stands on the issue, so unless that changes, the punch at the end stays.

I'm gonna have to agree with 24.189.241.124. it just sounds really forced with the "bitch" at the end. I mean, seriously, how old are we?
