Ask the Tropers:
openA Serbian Film now has examples Film
As you may or may not have heard, A Serbian Film has been locked and disallowed any examples from 2012, due to it's nature. However, people who wanted to add examples have found a way to do so: They've made a sandbox page for the film and put the examples there instead.
There's also now a laconic page with a note that references the film's most infamous scene, a Trivia page (which only has one trope saying how the film was banned in many countries), and a YMMV page with all the audience reactions you'd expect to have in a film like this.
I can't imagine this was allowed; if a work is so disturbing that examples are not allowed and the page is locked, surely circumnavigating the lock to add examples in this way isn't allowed either?
Edit: Turns out this was already discussed a few months back. But the point about the YMMV page still stands (it was created only a few weeks ago).
Edited by Shadow8411openWhy is it named this
I just recently discovered the page RainbowDoubleDash's Lunaverse and I don't really understand why it is named like that as far as I can tell this is not the official title (with it being just Lunaverse) there is no other page named Lunaverse so this doesn't seem to be for some disambig and RainbowDoubleDash is not even the only author who has made stories for this verse.
Edited by Ordeaux26openPossible shoehorn on The Celestial Toymaker Live Action TV
Found these two examples on The Celestial Toymaker:
- Yellowface: The Toymaker is a borderline example, in that Michael Gough dressed as a mandarin and adopted the title of "Celestial", a word that the English associated with Chinese culture. But he did not adopt a Chinese-sounding accent or wear makeup.
- Yellow Peril: A debatable example: the Toymaker wears traditional Chinese clothing (with no in-story explanation or discussion), and the word "Celestial" is an old (primarily American) and mildly derogatory term for Chinese people and culture, but there's no attempt to give the character a "Chinese" facial appearance or accent.
Are these shoehorns? I also feel that these kinds of tropes shouldn't be this debatable.
Edited by TheRandomSurfboardopenUnable to add tropes into a character page.
I have tried to add some more tropes into the Yashahime character page after my account was approved by the mods, only to find that despite being able to add the tropes, the tropes i added were simply plain writing and could not contain a link to the page of the trope that i included into the characters. Can you please help me with this problem? It's about Kirinmaru... I think it needs update after the finale of the first season of Yashahime...

After the Idiot Programming/Design debacle, I'm hesitant to make another cleanup thread. That said, should I make one for Growing the Beard, or do you guys think the trope's pretty well maintained?
openRegarding major changes to character pages Videogame
I'm thinking about making adjustments to the Characters page of Genshin Impact. Specifically, I would like to add new pages that could help with organization. Do I need to seek approval from anyone or do I need to open a discussion for this?
openLaconic for Unsolved Mystery - Mesquite?
Was browsing and read The Unsolved Mystery trope. I clicked the Laconic for the summary and it reads "The story ends without giving the clear answer/explanation for something mesquite that happens in plot."
Mesquite? Is it supposed to read 'mysterious' or something like that? Asking because I'm not 100% sure what the word is a mistake for. (It's been saying 'mesquite' since the start of the page, so no vandalism or anything like that. )
openBlack Swordsman Substitute rogue launched
Black Swordsman Substitute was rogue-launched as-is by Tropers.227someguy, despite the draft being -9 in bombs, and the overall consensus being that it needed to at least be discarded and remade. The description as it stands is a stub isn't even remotely workable, and they've also begun crosswicking the trope.
Edited by NubianSatyressopenRequest to do something about Casua/Competitive Conflict
I launched Casual-Competitive Conflict a long, long time ago, and I very much consider it an Old Shame. While I appreciate that some of the more blatant problems have been fixed (like the bad original page image and finding a way to contrast the opposing quotes cleanly), the core problem with the page is the same in my opinion: it takes sides through a combination of the Strawman Fallacy and the Golden Mean Fallacy, implying that both ends of the scale are bad and one should always agree with the "neutral" viewpoint.
I strongly feel something should be done with it, but exactly what, I don't have a clue, and since I am the person who first launched the page, my ability to make an objective judgement on that is hindered, so some other opinions on the matter are needed.
Edited by BaffleBlendopenConfusion over Leet Lingo / L33t L1ng0, and problem with blank pages
I'm aware that Redirects Are Free. However, I am not currently able to create redirects, as clicking the "Edit" button on a page that hasn't been created redirects me to the Launch Pad. Which I cannot access (nor can I access the Needs a Redirect thread), due to having restricted privileges for the time being.
I bring this up because, earlier, I ran into a problem with typing a trope name exactly as it was stylized, thinking it was the correct name since even the stylization used standard ASCII characters that are used in non-custom wiki words. To clarify, since Leet Lingo is stylized as L33t L1ng0, that's what I thought I had to type: L33t L1ng0.
Now, ordinarily, the obvious solution would be to turn L33t L1ng0 into a redirect. But as I mentioned before, I crash into the launch pad when I try to do that.
I'm not sure whether this is a glitch, an oversight, or even an intentional consequence of my restricted privileges. But just in case it is one of the two former, I wanted to bring it to attention. And if it isn't, I'll be quiet about it.
Edit: To clarify, I am at least aware why it's set up this way, to prevent rogue launches. But I don't know whether or not my problem is an unintended consequence.
Edited by BaffleBlendopenSuspect?
Screw the Money, This Is Personal! just launched today. It has this part at the ending, which it it looks like they unsuccessfully tried to comment out, that I find suspect.
%%!!!!Note On Title I'm aware that this is a SnowClone. However, I am reasonably sure that those with no knowledge of the other tropes that share similar titles will understand the meaning of this one.%%
This makes me question if this new trope was properly approved or launched before being fully polished up. Is that the case? Or is it good and the last part should just be removed?
Edited by Ferot_DreadnaughtopenConcept Art On Character Pages
Is it allowed to use concept art for character pages? If so, are there any rules or guidelines?
openAn incorrect troper
It appears that a troper named Khun Run has completely ruined a character specific page that was for the DCAU Wonder Woman through making it a redirect for another character page for some reason. Khun Run made this edit without providing any reason. They also removed any links to DCAU Wonder Woman's character page. I have sent a message to Khun Run to revert the edits that he has made, but he has yet to respond to my message. How are we able to revert the Khun Run's edits?
Edited by Thetropemaster101openAdaptation Dye Job
I asked the "Is this an example?" thread but didn't get an answer, so trying again here:
So Adaptation Dye-Job is a case where some aspect of a character's colour gets changed when the work they're in is adapted from it's original medium to another. What about a case where:
- The character is from an ongoing work in a medium that is primarily black-and-white/monochrome (like a comic strip or manga) or primarily text (like a novel) and has yet to be officially depicted in colour or have their colours officially described.
- The adaptation depicts the character in colour for the first time.
- Some time after the adaptation is released, the original work reveals the character's colours and they don't match up completely with the adaptation.
Is this still an example of Adaptation Dye-Job?
A similar question is where different adaptations/spin-offs in different mediums give the character different colours but the original work still hasn't given any. Is that also an example?
openRole Reprise
Does the trivia trope Role Reprise counts if a voice actor voices a parody of a character they voiced decades before in the original work?
openAre badges ever going to come back?
I know the initiative was abandoned in 2014 due to low revenue and you can barely get badges anymore (except for someone gifting you one or being awarded one), but back then it said "We'll come up with some other way for tropers to get badges."
Well, it has been seven years, and it doesn't look like it's going anywhere, so what happens with the badges now? Are they just going to be scrapped or will they remain like relics, where you could have gotten one in the past but you can't now?
(In case you can't tell, I really want someone to gift me a badge, but I don't know if it's possible.)
openAlphabetizing work vs page title.
If a work page has a series of installments whose individual titles have a different alphabetization than the work page (and they don't have its own page), do they get alphabetized under the work page title or the installment title?
I need to have a sandbox cut. The problem is the title is single word in which case it requires double {}. Or doesn't it? I don't know. I already posted the cut request a few days ago but the sandbox still exists.
