open Moral Event Horizon crowner
There is still an active crowner in the TRS thread for Moral Event Horizon. If anyone wishes to vote on it or otherwise participate in the thread, now is the time.
Please don't respond to this query. This is an attempt to draw attention to an important thread.
openPointless entries in a trope's discussion
Do bad or non-contributing trope discussions need to be reported and removed?
In this case, the one at the top of RockBeatsLaser's discussion just reads "This trope is so utterly idiotic I don't even know where to begin...".
openHow should I handle this page's medium?
Okay, so I'm working on making a page for Pinkfong (the creators of the specific version of Baby Shark), but before I started working on the page, I hit a bit of a snag: what should I be putting the medium for it under? It's the "educational brand" of SmartStudy, it's web cartoon-heavy with some live action segments, but it's also very song-focused, so should it be Music, Web Animation, or Web Original?
openUnexplained deletions/Possible bias
Skyborne Scout has deleted several examples from Hyrule Warriors with no edit reason. Some of the tropes point out negative aspects from the game, such as Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game and It's the Same, So It Sucks, so I suspect this may be because of their personal bias. I've sent a "deleting YMMV" notifier, but the page could still use a revert, as I'm not really sure where one of the deleted examples should go.
openSmackjeeves is closing Webcomic
The webcomic hosting site Smack Jeeves is closing at the end of December. What should be done about webcomics with trope pages that are hosted on that site?
openEdit War on Uncertain Audience Videogame
Black Yakuzu 94 added an entry to Uncertain Audience about Sonic the Hedgehog on December 19th of 2020. Boxer And Crew Socks axed it with no explanation on the 21st, and Yakuzu restored it 8 minutes later.
openTroping cut content?
I know this came up a while ago and I think Fast Eddie ruled on it, but what's the status on troping cut content? Western Animation/Zootopia had a deleted scene that was troped, but rva98014 removed it - does it still go under Trivia, or?
openBuffs, reworks, nerfs, and the mess afterwards Videogame
Balance Buff and Nerf have trope pages for significant changes to the game, but on my quest to update Rainbow Six Siege Operators - Base Game, I have come across a lot of old changes and references to patches that have since changed. Should tropes related to things that existed in previous versions of the game but no longer apply (like reworks) be kept? Many characters in that page have tropes relating to things that no longer apply, such as secondary gadgets they no longer have, like flashbangs and other grenades. While it would be helpful to have tropes describing their current loadouts, I don't feel that previous ones are worth a mention.
Edited by MorgisboardopenWill it be possible to also add emoji to any articles of this site?
For example, adding this 😂, the most used emoji, to the index Laughter Tropes, and adding this 😡 to the index Anger Tropes.
openA warning to those prematurely adding Complete Monster on YMMV pages
kamenriderfan18 is prematurely adding a Complete Monster entry on the Ultraman Z YMMV page after being told not to do so when there's a rule that a proposal has to be made two weeks after the show's season finale. To the moderators reading this, please deal with him ASAP.
This serves as a warning to those who attempt to put a CM entry on YMMV pages who don't heed to its rules.
openIf I added a page for my own work, someone added a YMMV page, and it had a grammar mistake
So I know not to edit YMMV and "moments" subpages for my own works, but if, hypothetically, someone made one and it had bad grammar, would I be allowed to correct it?
openAmbiguouslyGay or HoYay?
Got from Characters.Pokemon Sword And Shield Anime:
- Ambiguously Gay: Has several occasions where his behavior comes off as having a crush on Ash. In JN03 he's visibly blushing whenever Ash reaches out his hand and is frozen in adoration at the boy's heroics. Goh is also very flustered when asking Ash if they're still friends, his face red and going redder when Ash confirms it as if he doesn't want to be just that. This continues in the following episodes, Goh being completely comfortable with reaching for Ash's hand, patting his shoulder, hugging him, and faintly blushing at his compliments.
I wonder if Ho Yay is a better fit, given this doesn't seem like the sort of thing the show would go into. Another troper was also confused about what the line was between Ambiguously Gay/Bi and Ho Yay, I'm not sure if we have one.
I'm asking here first because there might be a larger issue regarding how to tell the difference between Ho Yay (unintentional subtext), Homoerotic Subtext (intentional, but seems like it can only be retroactively identified if those involved come out or with Word of God) Ambiguously Gay/Bi (may or may not be intentional) Thoughts?
openPage without transparent image Web Original
As I have read from this Administrivia page, I believe the image for Battle for BFDI is not transparent. The logo has black text as well as character outline. I’m wondering what I should do in this case.
Edited by callmeamuffinopenTroping Dummied Out content
Is there any specific rules on troping Dummied Out things that are still easily accessible? The page for Friday Night Funkin' has a lot of tropes regarding the Dummied Out character Lemon Demon, who isn't in the game proper but still has a fully functioning level hidden in the game's data that fans were able to easily mod back in.
openNo Title
I'm not sure where to take this, but Taylorswiftscat added it to Family Ties:
- What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: Alex was a riff on an observable trend of the time. Gen X'ers were rebelling against the leftist stint of their Boomer/Silent Gen parents from the sixties and seventies. Politically, Gen X has always been seen as uninvolved, although most polls suggest a 50/50 split between conservative and liberal, whereas subsequent generations lean increasingly left. The current GOP has a demographics problem. If enough white, middle aged Gen X'ers swing right, it could be enough to keep them afloat.
openWish to fix the name of a YouTuber's page Web Original
So there's a YouTuber by the name of Tulok the Barbrarian, who has his own trope page. However, there's a problem, in that the page's title is Tulok the Barbarian, instead of Tulok the Barbrarian (a combination of "Barbarian" and "Librarian"). I wish to correct this, but I don't know how, so can someone please help me with this?
openExample on Space Whale Aesop has a sub-bullet saying bestiality might be OK in the future.
I'm not lying! There's an example on Space Whale Aesop which cites an HP Lovecraft story where the moral is not to breed with other races (yeah, I know) but involves people screwing fish-people. However, it then has a sub-bullet that basically implies that due to Yiff fetishes, screwing fish-people will be seen as normal in the future! Can I cut that?
openMinor edit war in Characters/Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 76 to 81
lilysakura220 made a chained-pothole in Characters.Super Smash Bros Ultimate 76 To 81. I sent them a Sinkhole notifier with an added bit specifically telling them not to put potholes next to each other making them look like a single link; then I edited the entry to separate the potholes, with an edit reason explaining not to put potholes side-by-side. lilysakura220 later reverted the edit without responding to the notifier.
openHow do I wick check a trope with over 100000 redirects?
So I wanted to try and wick check Up To Eleven to see how many of its uses were potholing but because of how many wicks there are for it, it seems impossible. Like how am I supposed to know where the 5000th wick is? Is there a way of knowing which number redirect it is?
This might be yet another futile attempt, but I would like to enforce "Please state the character(s)" in Characters.SCP Foundation (the skips sheets, other sheets are doing fine). One major problem with them is that people troping someone else instead of the character in the header.
For example, SCP-5000 used to be filled with tropes belong to the Foundation (which has its own sheet) despite the SCP-5000 is (from the article itself) "a non-functional mechanical suit identified within its internal schematics as an 'Absolute Exclusion Harness' designed by the SCP Foundation."
This is likely stem from how the site march on with style. While many articles are named after the object itself, but some don't. (Although this isn't something new, although it didn't cause problem before because at least the object will be the center of the story. But many new articles on SCP Wiki are now a tale in skip guise.) For examples, said SCP-5000 is called "Why" while SCP-4000 is called "Taboo", neither is the name of the object. So I guess that's how tropers think "Anything is ok if they appears in said story.", and so we got purely narrative tropes list in character sheet (For example, here's one from Characters.SCP Foundation SC Ps 3000 To 3999:
Mind you, SCP-3008 object is an IKEA store as Eldritch Location. The journey is written by a man trapped in it but not the direct result of its anomaly, so the trope is clearly not belong to the IKEA store itself.)
I did add some "Tropes associated with X" to handful of skips entries because I think it should resolve some issue. People should at least aware of who or what they're troping and it can cover other one-shot character who's only has major role in one skip (for example, the aforementioned SCP-5000 has a good chunk of the story being about a character called Pietro Wilson who used that suit even if he isn't skip itself). The 3008 above? Troping "people trapped inside" (or the "store and people trapped inside") would allow that misplaced trope to stay with minor edit. Plus, that's how other sheet done. When troping a Stage 2 of video games, we add "Tropes associated with mini-boss" and "Tropes associated with stage boss" if they're stand out.
Unfortunately, it isn't done to all entries yet because, as noted, not all articles are named after the character and so I need to look up the article first (and with articles getting longer these days...). Also, even when it's done with the character's name clearly stated, some people just ignore it anyway and that's discouraging.
But lets try a gain, put a big bolded notification of "Please state the character before troping." on the top of skip sheet and see if it would help. Although I cannot write a good message and need help here.
