Just beat Unreal...again.

I beat the game (and Return to Na Pali) a few years ago when I had a pirated version on my laptop. But a few weeks back I got a legal copy on Steam in a really cheap bundle, so I decided to play through it again. However, this time I set myself a constraint. I remember that the first time I did almost everything with the dispersion pistol because I was worried about running out of ammo. (I often find myself doing this in games, deliberately using ammoless or regenerating-ammo weapons just in case the game suddenly starts being stingy with ammo, although it practically never does.) I even got in the habit of spawning myself dispersion pistols to 'reload' more quickly while out of combat. Anyway, I felt that maybe diminished the game and didn't give me as much experience with the other weapons as I should have been getting, so this time I set myself the constraint that I wouldn't use the dispersion pistol, at all, to do any damage (either killing monsters or interacting with shootable environment props). At most, I allowed myself to use it as a flashlight occasionally in dark areas, as long as it never hit anything other than inert map geometry. Nevertheless the game was not very difficult, and I generally found the flak cannon and automag to be my favorite weapons.

I do mean to play Return to Na Pali again, also with this constraint. Then at some point I'll play Unreal 2, which also came with the bundle and which I haven't played before (my laptop would probably have struggled to run it).

In Drakengard 3, I finished Chapter 3 and beat the boss. Overall the game isn't half bad.

Armored Warfare:

  • Renowned the C1 Ariete
  • Purchased a Terminator 2
  • Unlocked and purchased the upgraded engine for the Terminator 2. Because the power to weight ratio on this thing is awful.

After many, many months, I've finally gotten the gold medals for every case in the Grimsborough cases in Criminal Case. I've finally moved on to Pacific Bay and have started my first case there.

One thing I'm not happy about, unfortunately, is that ever since turning Pacific Bay and World Edition into their own games, I can't transfer my Grimsborough character over to Pacific Bay, which also means I can't use the Avatar features I've bought or the pets I've raised. A bit of a bummer, really, but I've been looking forward to Pacific Bay, so I'm pressing on.

Just took over all of the forts in the River Valley in Assassin's Creed: Rogue.

Just one more fort (I think) in the Atlantic to go!

Fought the Dragon in Dragon's Dogma as a Warrior for the first time, and even managed to nail him with an Arc of Obliteration. Geez, never thought I'd see him lose so many health bars in one attack...

Beat Final Fantasy IV, the DS remake. Had to grind to above level 90 with all five characters and get all the ultimate weapons, but it worked.

The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]

Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories (1.5 HD Remix): Beat Riku's story for a second time, and 100%'ed the D Report.

Final Fantasy X HD: Obtained all Celestial Weapons, all Crests, and every Sigil except for Wakka's (which involves several more hours of playing Blitzball). Got 10 of every capturable monster for the Monster Arena, so all that's really standing between me and the Platinum is several major fucktons of Level Grinding for the game's litany of Bonus Bosses.

[up]Just out of curiosity, which version are you playing? PS 2, or the Vita's Updated Re-release?

Just beat Return to Na Pali, under the same condition that I replayed Unreal (i.e. no dealing damage with the dispersion pistol).

Been trying to do a roleplay-ish hardcore run in Skyrim with a bunch of difficulty enhancements and survivalist mods and managed to get myself into an absolutely epic dragon fight that took damn near 10 deaths before I could beat it.

I'm playing a Breton spellsword centering on heavy armor, spell-imbued weapons, and a general light/fire magic theme. Going pretty well so far, cleared a few dungeons, hit lvl 20, picked up a follower or two and decided to drop by the old starter dungeon for some extra lot to cash in. Even with the difficulty scaling I breezed through it pretty easily, gabbed my loot and left to get my coin from Riverwood.

I shit you not as soon as I left the mouth of the cave there was a frost dragon hovering there face-level just inches from me. I'm playing with hypothermia mods so frost dragons' breath can 1-shot you. One follower instantly buys it, getting frozen and shattered. I dive for the trees and slug it out with fireballs and poisoned arrows until I whittle it down to maybe 25% hp. Then all hell breaks loose.

The dragon mods I've installed apparently add a tiny chance for the dragon on it's last breath to pull a Gondor Calls for Aid and summon additional dragons for help. Well shit. Suddenly the sky turns red, the ground quakes, and a massive hell portal opens in the sky. Three more dragons fly out of it, one of which is some flaming hell dragon with a rotting necromancer dragon abomination as his sidekick. Just as I finish the frost dragon these three dive in summoning a hail of meteors while necrodragon proceeds to reanimate every dead body within a few miles. I'm close enough to Riverwood for the meteor storm to start killing townsfolk, so in addition to the dragons I have to contend with undead guards, undead bears, undead bandits, and oh shit undead Uthgerd packing an enchanted greatsword and none too pleased that I let her get frozen to death.

In the end I died just after taking down the hell dragon; necrodragon proceeded to summon man-dragon skeleton mages and I had used every potion in my inventory, and finally killed me by landing on my head and tail-smacking me off a slightly too high cliff, but hell if it wasn't the most fun I've had in that game.

I finished Branch C of Drakengard 3. It's really sad what happened to Zero and Mikhail in that Branch. I'm currently doing the Lost Verse branch.

Just finished ZAR on easy difficulty.

I know that sounds wussy, but with the inherent challenges of the moving and aiming mechanics (it doesn't help that all the weapons fire 'slow' projectiles, requiring prediction and luck to hit moving targets with any degree of accuracy) it was still a reasonably hard game at times. Some of the levels were much more difficult than others, and some of the weapons (notably the cannon and the rocket launcher) seemed much more useful than others. I wasn't impressed with the game design overall, but it was a very different take on the FPS genre, so I'm glad to have had the chance to experience it. The music was also good.

Finally killed the Countess from the Crimson Court DLC of Darkest Dungeon. Lost an Occultist and a Leper in the process, but they performed admirably.

I beat Super Mario World for the first time a month or so ago. I used my physical SNES, so no save points. It took me a week but I felt so happy. Seven years ago I couldn't even get through Donut Plains.

Now if only I could beat Super Mario Bros. 3 without save points...

I managed to beat Shadow Teddie in Persona 4. A tough boss, but I beat him. I really like the game so far.

Darkest Dungeon:

  1. Had a party of level 2s
  2. Found an altar that said "place a torch if you crave the void"
  3. Placed a torch. Got drawn into a void dimension and attacked by an Old God
  4. Defeated the Old God without anyone dying
  5. Later found out that that fight is one of the hardest in the game.

Got to Level 15 with Robin and Darkseid in Injustice 2. Currently working towards making everyone part of Level 20 club (except for DLC characters).

To be honest, despite me hating Robin (Damian Wayne) as a character, I like his gameplay. And while I love Darkseid as a villain, I dislike his playstyle. It's... pretty strange for me.

Just finished Serious Sam The First Encounter on easy difficulty.

Again, sounds wussy. But it is seriously an unreasonably difficult game. A couple years ago I tried to play through on normal difficulty and got stuck halfway through, there were just too many enemies to stop them all. How people do it on serious difficulty I have no idea, there just don't seem to be opportunities to dodge that much damage no matter how skilled you are. This is very much a game for masochists, designed to punish you for trying to play it.

And now I have Second Encounter to go through. This is gonna be painful.
