During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

What's the work?
The Librarians started as a series of TV movies continuing as a television show. The premise? The world is in peril from magic, doomsday prophecies, secret orders, you know it. What protects us? A secret organization known as The Library, with a powerful magic library at their fingertips...and who fights the good fight? The Librarians, of course. A special team of misfit secret agents out to save the day, save the world and protect the innocent. Fighting everyone from Dracula to Morgan le Fay to Shakesperean villains and the Egyptian god Apep.
Let's talk the season 1 episode The Librarians and the Heart of Darkness...the team is arriving to check out the mysterious House of refuge, a house of legend that appears at random, takes in victims and vanishes again...arriving in Slovakia, a girl named Katie is seen fleeing the house, in terror that her friends are still inside. The Librarians enter the house and....the haunting begins. A terrifying black-cloaked figure appears, stalking them..and one by one they seem to vanish. The only way to defeat the evil house? Destroy its 'dark heart', as the legend goes. The Librarian in training Cassandra is protecting Katie, but...she doesn't seem to need protection. In fact, things are not as they seem....
Who is Katie Bender?
The youngest and most sadistic of the Bloody Bender serial killer family....after killing many innocent people for fun and money (mostly the fun), the Benders were fleeing the authorities...when they came across the House of Refuge. Katie quickly adapted to the house, realizing it granted wishes for people in need....Katie proceeded to eliminate her family and made a chilling wish: to use the house to travel across time and space, to gather victims for her, becoming not quite human anymore. Using the House, Katie moves across centuries, to different lands and countries...Katie luring innocents to the House, tormenting them, and eventually slaughtering them for fun. All of the hauntings? the Dark Man, the creepy ghost stuff? It's not because the House is malicious. The house is trying to warn and save Katie's intended victims. Katie knows this and it gives her an extra kick.
Now, one by one, the Librarians seem claimed by the House. Katie then proceeds to inform Cassandra they can escape to the Texarkana fort....and Cassandra realizes something is wrong as they're in Slovakia...Katie decides to drop the act and reveals just how many she's murdered, chasing Cassie into the house. Cass does manage to figure things out...and uses the power of the House against Katie, fighting back against the little sadist. Informing Katie that she is the dark Heart, The house responds to Cass's need to save her friends and arms her. She manages to wound Katie, with the House withdrawing its protection from her. Katie? Screams and turns to dust, countless victims avenged and the Librarians escape, returning home with a mission complete.
So, heinousness?
The Librarians is a pretty tongue in cheek series, but has some surprisingly nasty bad guys. Lancelot himself is the mastermind of a murderous ancient conspiracy, Dracula is a villain in one of the films, Apep wants to unleash Pure Evil to overrun the earth...most villains are either too generic or lack the necessary evil. Katie, for just one person with a magic house, has an enormous body count, having been murdering people for centuries, sadistically torturing them with mind games....any ages, too. Adults, kids, you name it. Katie obliterates the heinous standard for The Librarians, especially given she's worse than centuries old sorcerers and even some gods.
Mitigating qualities?
Hahaha, no. Katie is a vicious little sadist. She's the worst of her family, double crossed and disposed of them in the House, and nothing indicates she was ever brainwashed. She's a Bender, through and through and easily the worst of the lot. It says something the supposed murder house is completely benevolent and is trying to protect Katie's innocent victims from her.
Conclusion?
Easy keep.
Ive watched it.
Easy to Katie.

What's the work ?
DC One Million was DC Comics' Crisis Crossover for the year 1998. Written by then-current JLA writer Grant Morrison, the basic idea came from his imagining what The DCU would be like if DC Comics continued publication until flagship title Action Comics reached issue #1,000,000. note
The core of the crossover was a core 4-issue miniseries written by Morrison. In addition, each of DC's then-running titles had a tie-in issue #1,000,000 showing what life was like for the protagonist's future counterpart. Some of the tie-in issues were linked directly to the main plot of the miniseries, while others were independent side-stories that contributed to the World Building.
The story begins when the League is visited by their descendants from the 853rd century. It turns out that Superman is still alive then, but had retired to live inside the sun for centuries, but had recently given word that he was coming out, and the future civilization is going to throw him a big "welcome back!" celebration - and the original League are guests of honor! To make sure that Earth is safe while the league is gone, the future League note will stay in the present in their place.
In the future, the League members have various adventures detailed in the crossover's tie-in issues. The central miniseries focused on the Justice Legion's adventure on present-day Earth. It turns out that the solar system of the future has been massively terraformed. Not only that, but several planets are dedicated to specific heroes: Mercury to The Flash, Venus to Wonder Woman, Earth to Green Arrow, Pluto to Batman, etc. The only planet missing is Uranus, destroyed and replaced by a second sun - Solaris, the Living Sun which was defeated by Superman and reprogrammed to be helpful, overseen by that century's Starman.
Unknown to the heroes, the hero-swap is part of an elaborate and sinister plot 830 centuries in the making. Soon, the Justice Legion find themselves trapped in the past, and the Justice League are on the run in a strange and unfamiliar time.
so who is the villain and what has he done ?
So this is a weird EP as I think this might be the first time that a comic book villain's original version is being ep'd after an adaption went up.
Solaris the sun Tyrant is one half of the Big Bad Duumvirate along with Vandal Savage Solaris is a sentient, mechanical, artificial sun which was created in the 20th century and served as a nemesis to Superman (Hes known in the 853rd century as Superman Prime, NOT to be confused with superboy prime).
When Superman-Prime retired, he gave the position to his son Superman Secundus, Solaris to keep his rivalry up, decided to test this new Superman. Solaris used its gravity pull and attempted to wrench the very planets from their paths, into its own orbit. Something that would have killed all life in the solar system
Superman Secundus defeated Solaris and hence began a rivarly between Solaris and supermans descendents that would continue on.
In the 25th century, Solaris sick of losing, attacked earth, attempting to reduce it to smolders, and was stopped by Superman and that era's Justice League who defeated him. In the early 29th century, solaris returned with an army of sentient comets, to lay waste to earth but the Justice League and the Legion of Super-Heroes were able to defeat Solaris and its army.
By 505th centuary, Solaris created its worst plan, he realised a cancer plague which he created by bombarding the Solar System with waves of deadly radiation from himself. Solaris was defeated than and was than forcefully reprogrammed by that superman (In a Smallville Brainiac Heel–Face Brainwashing way) and now became a helper into protecting the Solar System and remained incapable of independence for millennia. Overtime, Solaris was eventually accepted as a hero and remained in good standing with the contemporary Justice League.
However despite the turn to good, Solaris soon become a very influential power and ended up subverting his noble goals. When the universe started to veer into universal paranoia and instability, Solaris formed the Pancosmic Justice Jihad, who perfromed many actions including preemptive strikes against worlds considered potential threats to the Solar System casuing a wave of xenophobia against other world yo hit earth. The population effectively worshipped solaris and the Pancosmic Justice Jihad for its imperialistic actions and Solaris' standing and power grew as a result. This would continued until the return of Superman Prime himself who casued a great revival which turned public opinion against Solaris' agenda. The Pancosmic Justice Jihad was disbanded and Solaris went on to form the Academy of Prescient Justice, an organisation that failed to gain any traction.
By the 853rd century, Solaris simply returned to acting as a passive secondary power source to the Solar System while being monitored by its caretaker, Starman. However, Solaris had become jealous of the attention that Superman had received and hence returned back to malevolence and plotted for the death of Superman Prime. He conviced tithe than star man to help him release a virus he created which caused amy machines to go haywire and drove any human infected with it insane and violent while gaining a huge boost in paranoia. Allying with Vandal Savage, he than infected Hourman of the Justice legion (the 80th centuary version of the justice league) with this virus. Hence when the Justice Legion traveled back in time to begin a ceremony honoring the original Justice League of America, present day Earth was infected with Solaris's virus. The virus spread through the world and drove nearly everone insane, sparking riots and untold chaos. Meanwhile Vandal savage in the prsent attempted to use a group of red rock suits to launch a strike on washington dc, howver it got infected with the virus which ended up affecting the guidance system of the Red Rocket suit and than detonated it over Montevideo, Uruguay, and killing over one million (Which I dont think is better or worse, we might need to add that to Vandal's current entry). This though just become the beginning of the problem as the virus caused humanity to face destruction as the insanity and violnce and soon its true purpose was discovered, it to serve as a predestination paradox that allowed for the creation of solaris. The legion with no other choice creates the mechancial body of solaris to stop the chaos as well as ensure the creation of there timeline, It suceeds and draws out solaris. Solaris now self -aware, attempts to realse a radition attack to wipe out all life on earth. In an act of Redemption Equals Death, future starman than scarfices himself to stop the attack and drives solaris out of the solar sytem
Solaris meanwhile in the future decides to dick around and makes it seem like current superman (The whole league went to the future) is inetneyioanlly endangering civivlains, to drive people agaisnt him. He than tries to kill him and mocks him by saying he'd kill all of his frineds and other league mebers in front of him, despite the fact that would destroy the reality that he lives in.
Future Vandal Savage though has found a sample of Kryptonite on Mars—where it was left by the 853rd century Starman(Kryptonite doesnt exist in the future, so to make sure it's around, Solaris had starman place it there)— in the 20th century and gave it to Solaris, who intends on using the Kryptonite to finally kill Superman Prime. In a final attack, Solaris fired the Kryptonite in a beam— which also kills thousands of superhumans—at Superman Prime just before he emerged from his isolation in the Solar System's sun. But unbeknownst to Solaris, the Kryptonite was actually a disguised Green Lantern Ring - it was the result of a secret conspiracy originated in the 20th century that created a foolproof plan for stopping Solaris. Since Solaris has never seen this power before as green lanterns dont exist in the fture, he is severely weakened by the Justice League's Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner) and Superman Prime, using the Green Lantern Ring, ultimately destroys Solaris by having the sun cave in on itself putting him down for good.
Nah solaris is just a petty, jelous monster and his motivatio agaisnt superman comes from him stopping a wave of fear that he created. Agency isnt really an issue either as Solaris created himself and is self aware and can think in very human terms, hell even after being forcefully reprigrammed good, he still turned evil. Showing he's just a sociopathic prick.
Other mitgating factors ?
Not really, Solaris thinks on very human terms and he isnt a GDV as he is very petty and sadistic . He also uses things like sarcasm which I think a GDV wouldnt use.
He also simply serves as the corrupter to starman with no redeeming qualties and he and vandal simply have a partnership rather than a friendship.
Henious standard ?
I think so, for a one off villain. Solaris is nasty. He attempts to incinerate the planet, spread a virus that wouldve destroyed all of humanity and finally slaughters thousands of superhummans. He's also inplicit in vandal's plot to conquer the past despite the fact that would destroy his reality and shares responsiblity with vandal in killing over a million people by crashing his red rocket suit in Uruguay.
He does have a few other crimes like attempting to pull the planets out of orbit and wiping out life with senteint asteraoids and trying to give everyone in the solar system cancer and these are shown in flashbacks. Im not sure these partcualr stuff goes out off Offstage Villainy but all the other stuff is onscreen and I feel its enough to show a pattern. If your curiosu you can read it here
Vandal the other memeber of the Big Bad Duumviarte, while nasty in his attempt to nuke washington dc, doesnt reach the end the world multiple times that solaris does.
Conclusion ?
I say yes but leave it up to you.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Katie.
Solaris. Will he go under Superman or the main DC page?
I think, since apparently the One Million stuff is Post-Crisis, we can just add to Vandal's entry (which will make it fairly lengthy, but he seems like one of those, such as Red Skull, where it's okay).
Hellraiser is all potholed, imaged up, and such.
BTW, with the Ace Attorney CM page to be cut soon, the only CM pages with under 7 are Sword Art Online (since there may be another CM coming soon) and 24 (since Tyk may have a few cuts/rewrites before I merge).

Watch me destroying my countryto Katie Bender and Solaris.
Looking at the comic online, it seems the comic itself uses enfermidad, so, yeah.
BTW, Mir, I've added Vandal's current writeup to the Drafts; I made a few changes, notably changing "multiple murders and cannibalism" to just cannibalism, as I think the multiple murders stuff is small scale for someone like him
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsAs we discussed, yes to Sol
Katie and Solaris.
The comic uses both "Enfermidad" and "Infermidad".

Love that spanish. By the way...how many CM we have from Hispanic media? Not hispanic-inspired media but from outright Latin American media.
Solaris. Is not Offstage Villainy when we see some pics and a pattern

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsUmmm does Soraya's write-up, need to be this big
- Complete Monster: Soraya Montenegro initially appeared just an arrogant wealthy woman who wanted to marry Luis Fernando. But upon Maria’s arrival she reveals her true nature. Envious of Luis's attraction to Maria, Soraya first tried to seduce him with her Nana Calixta's black magic, then slept with him while he was drunk and faked pregnancy forcing him to marry her. She also tried to poison Maria and shot her lover Osvaldo Treviño to prevent him from revealing her plans. Soraya treats everyone less fortunate than her—even her own mother—with absolute contempt, and kills her underlings without a second thought. She seemingly dies from falling through a window, but is later revealed to have survived and fled to America for fifteen years. There, she marries Oscar Montalban, a rich man who cared for her during her recovery. She rewards his kindness by murdering him to gain his money, and returns to Mexico pretending to be remorseful. Soraya begins regularly abusing her disabled step daughter Alicia and Alicia’s elderly godmother Esperanza. She delights in finding creative ways to torture them, such leaving Alicia alone in a room filled with tarantulas. To get revenge against Maria she starts seducing Maria’s teenage son Nandito, regularly getting him dangerously drunk. Discovering that Alicia and Nandito had fallen for each other, she attempted to kill them and Esperanza. Soraya then murders her own mother, having previously abandoned her to live on the streets, and frames Nandito for the crime, leading to Maria being imprisoned. Upon discovering Maria survived the prison fire, Soraya kidnaps her and personally attempts to burn her to death. An elitist sociopath Soraya was the only villain to never express any remorse for her crimes.
Heh, you think THAT'S bad, here's the original:
- Complete Monster: Soraya Montenegro. At first, she was just a rich bitch, the girlfriend of Luis Fernando. But when Maria entered into the scene, she became more and more evil each day. She attempted to seduce him using the Nana Calixta's black magic. She staged a pregnancy to force him to get married with her. She tried to poison Maria, and treates her and all poor people with an absolute contempt (even her own mother), and kills her underlings without a second thought. Speaking of which, she shot her lover Osvaldo Treviño to prevent him from revealing their relation. Treviño manages to stay alive with his bulletproof vest, but when Soraya discovers that he's alive, she returned to shoot to him again. Then, she dies... or so it seems. She endures a 15 years recovery just ambitioning revenge, gets married with the rich man that healed her just to kill him and inherit his money, and return to Mexico. She abuses of the disabled Alicia and her elder godmother Esperanza, and physically attacks them on a regular basis, or torture them in creative ways (she even left Alicia alone in her room with tarantulas). She seduces an underaged boy and makes him drunk to nearly lethal levels, just for vengueance against his mother. When she discovers that Alicia and Nandito are lovers, she tried to kill them all (she stabed Nandito, Alicia ended up in the hospital, and Esperanza lost her memory for a long time). She kills her own mother (which she had seen and recognized living in the streets as a poor vagrant, and casually ignored), and forges evidence against nandito of that crime. She takes Luis Fernando when he's drunk to her house, to have sex with him (which may be very well considered rape). She reacted with glee when she reads in a newspaper that Maria died in a fire, and when she finds out that she did not, she tried to kill her with fire herself. Unlike other villains of the telenovela (such as Penélope or Carlota), she never had any repentance of her evil actions, except when trying to fool someone who is not completely informed about her.
Katie and Solaris.
"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."Can I just say that Pancosmic Justice Jihad would be an excellent band name? Anyway, yes to Katie and Solaris.
And the Ace Attorney page is getting deleted? I don't know if any rules regarding pages changed while I left for a bit, but I personally want to wait a bit before doing that. Not only is a new Ace Attorney game coming out later this year, but there's a villain from another form of Ace Attorney media I've been thinking about discussing, assuming it's not going to be a waste of time.
