He could've mixed both scenes together, you know. Nobody said that he has to use the scene unmodified or exclusively.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I just think that scene works perfectly the way it is.
Jbstormburst:I doubt Kyon would want to have a Fusion Dance with Ryouko, if only because she's female.
Grahf: Ryouko getting more freedom? I'm a bit torn on that: for one part I think it's too soon, for another I think it makes sense for the tone of ths story and Haruhi's idea (it's a vacation after all).
TheNobody: Sasaki doesn't simply have a crush on Kyon, she's "hopelessly in love" with him. I wonder who has it worse: Sasaki for Kyon or Sakanaka for Kunikida.
Marq FJA: When we'll see Kyon calling "Haru-Haru"? Never. Haruhi hated that nickname.
Mad Kitsu: I actually went from here to the spacebattles forums for Sleeping with the Girls fanfic. Then I got there to read a few others. I had just forgotten to return my avatar to the Bowser image... I changed it to Kirby temporally because I was doing a Kirby Wii's True Arena run with Hammer.
*changes avatar* Ok, now I'm ready for a Level 3 game on Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
(It's too obvious I'm too sleepy right now?)
I'll update the timeline tomorrow or the day after, I can't get too much free time in the job (even if I read the fic today at the job XD).

Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailerSuper Mario RPG is best Mario RPG.
I have to respectfully disagree, as Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door was a lot more interesting IMO.
The only one I didn't play.
Any tips to beat the Shadow Queen with a Level 8-9 Mario?
Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailer...A lot of evasion-based badges? My specialty isn't challenge runs, unfortunately, so I can't say anything more worthwhile.
Notice.
Chapter 58 updated.
Mostly typos' correction. Also, Sasaki now dons her own Kitago uniform *insert Zelda's Item Get! fanfare*
Something I didn't notice before:
"You can chase that rabbit all the way to the Descartes rabbit-hole," Haruhi countered. "At some level, you have to trust that your senses aren't lying to you. I think we can discount the 'escapism' fantasy. Surely if it was purely a fantasy...." She trailed off with a sidelong glance at Kyon, her face reddening very faintly. "Well, there would be ... less people," she concluded.
Does this count as a Continuity Nod/Call-Back to Melancholy?
@Filraen:
How about a "test run"? I mean, something like getting her full size form back for the duration of their visit to Hinamizawa where there is about 0% chance to run into someone who could recognize her (except for Miyuki, that's it). I think Kyon would agree as long as Ryouko promises never hold a knife in his presence. Accommodations might be a problem, though.
Sakanaka, even if I do think Sasaki's feelings run deeper than Sakanaka's as the result of a prolonged and more meaningful interaction with the object of their affections.
Re. "Haru-Haru"
IMO, Haruhi simply hated the nickname, but I must admit that it's (perhaps deliberately) open to interpretation. Decide for yourself (for further context, rewind to 1:58).
Random observation.
The scene at the end of Re-2, where the members of the SOS Brigade chose whom to share a room with, made me think that each girl in the Big Damn Harem has a counterpart who they can easily relate to (Haruhi/Tsuruya, Yuki/Kuyou and Mikuru/Kanae). If Sasaki ever joins in, she could become a little of the odd one out (in spite of being canonically designed to be Haruhi's equivalent). For some reason I think she would get along really good with Ryouko, perhaps because of how similar their Character Development seems to be.
My K:BDH Recursive FanfictionNote to self: update Kindle version of new chapter to corrected version later when not tired.
Re. Call-Back: I think that counts. It's very subtle, but now that you've pointed it out I think it makes sense.

... Wait, does KBDH!Haruhi still subscribe to the "other males are just sacks of potatoes" view? Or does her relationship with Kyon now gives her a reason to not strip in front of other guys — namely, "only my Love Interest has the privilege of gazing upon my body!"?

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Re. men = potatoes
Fix'd!
More seriously, I think Haruhi is way past that at this point. For example, as early as Fi-3 Haruhi wondered why the thing about the voyeur ring bothered her when the above incident from Melancholy didn't. By now, I would expect that if someone ever tries to peep on her, she will invoke Pervert Revenge Mode, perhaps by grabbing the first solid object available and throw it with great force and precision.
That's remind me, Haruhi apparently still thinks Kyon peeked when she was undressing during their last visit to Hinamizawa. I'm kind of hoping she will discover the truth in the next chapters. It would make an amazing Brick Joke (encompassing at least 430k words and 42 chapters), don't you think?
That or Haruhi telling the rest about it and Kanae complaining that Kyon never peeked on her. Preferably both.
My K:BDH Recursive FanfictionRe. men = potatoes
If you are going to fix something, fix it well.
By the way, nobody noticed the first time used in the fic, 2-hit combo Kyon's trademarked "Yare yare"?

Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailer... Come again?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.*searches*
Well, he could beg Haruhi and Yuki for help? Resigned to his fate, he sighed. Maybe he could think of something.
Somehow.
Closing the laptop up, Yuki's footsteps navigated silently around the table, where she gently patted him on the head twice before taking Kuyou's form from the table and slowly walked after the others.
"Oh, boy," he sighed, as Ryouko's small form turned to face him expectantly.
...
"Yeah," Fujiwara called back, nodding. "And by the way, he is almost as big a jerk as future me."
"You can say that again," Kyon grumbled.
"Almost," Fujiwara reiterated, looking back and shooting Kyon a pained smile.
Pressing her hands together, Sasaki asked, "Does this have something to do with what happened on Saturday? I should thank you again for getting me this uniform!"
"Oh, boy," Kyon sighed, setting down the bags he was carrying to massage his temples.
It isn't in Japanese.

Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailerOkay, but why 2-hit com— Oh, it's because he used it twice in this chapter, right?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.@Marq JFA From last page, I think you can also say she's a little more than "almost certainly" Bi for Kanae, considering she's kissed her, too.
Awesome chapter all around, glad I finally was able to sneak in time to read it.
The only thing I was unsure of is Kyon calling Mikuru...well, just that. Her first name, no honorifics or anything. He's never called her that before, in my memory, although it's understandable about him avoiding "Mikuru-chan".
I'm just not sure that Kyon would call anyone besides Haruhi and Sasaki by just their name(just yet), simply because it's been so far ingrained into him. Heck, he still calls Tsuruya by her last name.
Also, on the main page:
Not sure if my memory is correct, but doesn't Kyon just catch her while she's trying to sneak into his room to wake him up?

My thoughts are more to why it's not said as "Yare Yare", kitsu.

I have returned, and my vacation in the void was so boring...Because Brian seems to prefer not engaging in Gratuitous Japanese.
I tend to agree with that approach. If something has a translation or a rough equivalent it should be used. It's just that "yare yare" doesn't translate into anything particularly remarkable (I think I commented on that a while back). The anime dub generally went with "Oh brother" IIRC.

Fine by me.
Oh, a thought. Why did Yuki pat Kyon on the head in the first place? Did she pick up that mannerism from somewhere? Did she know that Kyon had not thought of a way to get past his parents in order to go to Hinamizawa yet?

I have returned, and my vacation in the void was so boring...Eh, I differ on the usage of "yare yare," as for me, a Verbal Tic and Gratuitous Japanese are two completely different things altogether. Besides, all of the Yakuza language much?
...When you look at it, it's kinda scary how in tune Yuki seems to be with everything, especially if she picks up other mannerisms for her own.
If the Verbal Tic is an actual word then... yeah, I don't see why it shouldn't be translated. That's just me though. Besides, "Yare yare" is more like a Catchphrase than a Verbal Tic.
And the Yakuzaspeak is the only exception I'm aware of aside from the occasional "nakama" and terms related to "tsundere," both of which are tropes (well, Nakama got itself renamed after he used it, but still).

Funny as that is, I think I'm glad it wasn't used. The "wake-up kisses" scene is one of my favorites.
Re. Little Miss Snarker Rika: Yeah, that's also true. I remember in the visual novels they were playing one of their tabletop-games-of-doom (I forget which one), and when Keiichi revealed his move on the last turn, confident he was going to win, Rika immediately started patting him on the head.
Edit: Also, new Kindle version.
