It's good to see the first "classical" Kirara series in awhile. Blend-S is the least architypical of a Kirara series, and I won't even say New Game! or Laid-Back Camp are the most archetypal ones.
Character Sheet launched. I should have launched Laid-Back Camp's first, but character tropes are easier to identify in this series.
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaI wasn't expecting this to be as enthralling as it was. Even though hardly anything happened. The characters seem pretty great.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.Episode 2: You usually don't see that much Heroic BSoD in a Kirara series, even if justified.
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaHonestly she should have gone further down the rabbit hole with that one.
I guess Japan doesn't have a range of days for the test and/or make up days for those who have legit reasons why they can't be there that one day... That is lawsuit worthy here.
Well she was sick for more than just one day. But still, pretty rough.
Hopefully we see more of that year off Hana had. Might not be too interesting, but maybe there would be some good angst?
p.s Tama is my fave.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.Well episode 3 is out. Hana still hasn't given away her secret, though circumstances seem to be conspiring against her.
Meanwhile Eiko manages to somehow get gayer with each passing episode. And no one can tell if she's deliberately flirting or not.
When does secret happen reveal?
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.Episode 3.
I finally got a full idea about the main cast this episode, and it get quite enjoyable now.
Eiko is a lesbian seductress that, according to Tamate, has Kamuri as her "wife."
Likewise, we have Les Yay for Hana and Tamate.
I launched YMMV.Slow Start to list the Les Yay, but a Ho Yay subpage looks inevitable.
EDIT: I'm not so sure whether I phrased the Sempai/Kōhai example in the work page correctly to encapsulate what Hana said she she was BSODing last episode. Can anyone please have a look?

Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaRuise@6: After watching this and last episode again, it's obvious that she doesn't leave the apartment complex very often during her gap year. I'm not sure if that's within the threshold for The Shut-In, but it's sort-of close. Hana said this episode she spent most of the time studying textbooks.
Which brings the issue: Is Hana a metaphor for a person who's been Hikikomori for a relatively short period of time and then goes back to school? In that situation of course the person would try to hide his/her history.

Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaOverthinking it. Use the simplest explanation possible and common sense to answer that.
Being cleverer than you look is better than looking cleverer than you are.
I have to admit I have the tendency to overthink stuff...
This is anime, not Federico Katzen's "Gateway recombinational cloning: a biological operating system" We're not here to get published or make contributions to the knowledge pool in society, just have fun watching easygoing shows.

Being cleverer than you look is better than looking cleverer than you are.Volume 5 of the manga is out, you can download from your favorite Raws website, or just buy it.
An interesting New Game animation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVLLUjedzTQI was told Hana was given the Akarin treatment later in the manga.
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaMakes sense.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.She has far more character to her than Akari. Just becoming a joke seems like it would be a massive waste over what could be good social commentary on a screwed up school system that forced her into that position.
edit: becoming a joke is even worse than if they did nothing with her.

You mean the Yui treatment? That's rough...
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot. Maybe I overstate it. I more or less mean Out of Focus here.
Episode 4: I know I shouldn't declare Angst Aversion on a Kirara series, but I at least minimized that trope's application to a few minutes.
Why does she care that she's behind just now? It didn't seem to matter before.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.People on 4chan seems to identify the author to be Bottle Fairy's artist. In that case, the Tama-chan here is a grown-up Tama-chan there.
EDIT: Since I expect most here don't even know who that other Tama-chan is (me included), here's a few caps of that Tama-chan. Note she already plays Dating Sim at 5.

Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaI watched the first half of Bottle Fairy some time way back in the noughties and this is a very important revalation.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.x4 Out of Focus really isn’t the Akarin treatment, they turned Akari into the biggest joke and just straight up insult. Here it would be absolutely inappropriate to do it.
I would be fine with Hana losing focus for Tama and Eiko once her arc moves on past the reveal stage.
Inappropriate...before her problem gets dealt its hand?
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.I've heard that this series is Banned in China.

This winter season, we've got not one, but two Manga Time Kirara anime adaptations! Slow Start is the second of the two (with the other being Yuru Camp), following Hana Ichinose after a bout of illness causes her to miss the entrance exams into high school, setting her back by a year. The first episode aired earlier today, and this series looks to be a gentle, laid-back look into Hana's life as she strives to make the most of things, having entered high school a year later than expected.
The only resource you need for tropes
