Earth. Gaia. Terra Firma. The Real World. Compared to the things dreamed of in fiction, our Earth is... boring. But also much safer. No eldritch beings threaten us, no aliens seek to conquer us, no undead roam the land and no ancient magics tear apart the world.

Until now.

August 1, 2015. A being far beyond comprehension, for reasons unknown, grants a chosen few of us mere mortals a boon. It might be called a god, but it is not any god ever worshiped by man. It is something else, from some other world. And now it reaches into the worlds that writers imagine and transforms unsuspecting human beings into the very characters they read and watch and dream of.

They have the belongings, skills, and abilities of those they once thought fictional. Strength beyond any human, impossible weapons from a distant future, magic that can bend the very laws of nature. They have, for the first time, power.

What they do with this newfound power is their choice. But whatever they choose, they must choose quickly, as not everyone with power uses it responsibly...

Premise: ordinary people on ordinary Earth become fictional characters. You can play as a self-insert or just a person you thought up. You have the powers and appearance of a fictional character, but your own personality and memories. Characters over a certain power level (I'm leaning towards city-busting, but this could be changed) would be nerfed.

This sounds pretty damn cool. Interested. I've got an idea for a character already, as well. Though it's more two characters...

I could probably think of something to go with this. It would probably involve "spitting a lot of bullets at a lot of things", though. tongue

Just a question from just a username.

Are customizable video game characters allowed for power usage or can only established characters for the Player Characters?

Some people say I'm lazy. It's hard to disagree.

[up] I am a bit iffy on Customizable PCs. Namely because of exploits like the restoration enchanting loop in Skyrim that let me get basically infinite health and instant regeneration. I suppose if you promise not to do something incredibly OP it would be acceptable.

This looks interesting! I love "the present-day world suddenly becomes affected by uncanny things" type plots. Some questions - do the transformed people get to choose in any way their new forms? If not, do they turn into characters they like or are familiar with, or is it entirely up to the godlike being's whim?

Interest.
Also, re: RPG-protag-like characters: I would believe that making them case-by-case would alleviate anything of the ridiculously OP sort — you could just deny them.

[up][up] Well my idea was everyone would be at least a little familiar with the character they are, but I guess I'll leave that up to player discretion.

[up]That works.

Notice: I am moving, and will not be available for the next two days. If you would like to reserve a character, do so before Friday afternoon, 'cause that's when I'm making the Sign-Up, and it'll be first come first serve.

I appreciate a week has gone by without any activity, but I'd like to give it a kick up the bum and see if it's still there.

Unfortunately, I'm gonna have a couple problems picking a character, since my kost recent gaming, TV and anime history either have no identifiable characters, characters that would be difficult to work or I just plain haven't been involved with in fricking ages and I'd need serious re-education.

Curse the ill fortune that led you to me.

[up] You don't really need to know a lot about the story of whatever work you're using, just the character's powers and how they work. The character you play as has their own personality.

Welp, stuff and things happened in my life, and now I'm apparently a week late. But it arguably is a friday afternoon so better late than never.

Sign-up!

  • Character: (Who they were transformed into.)
  • Gender: (If the human and character are different genders list as Human/Character. E.g. Male/Female or Female/Genderless.)
  • Age: (Same as gender, list the ages of both. Human/Character.)
  • Personality: (May or may not be influenced by that of the character, your choice.)
  • Powers: (List any nerfs if they are above city-destroying level, or any nerfs you think are necessary. Case-by-case basis here.)

OK, a few questions:

  • I understand from the OP that the poor schmuck gains the character's superpowers and equipment (if any), but does it also include specific, mundane talents and abilities? If I turned into Batman, would I gain extensive knowledge of martial arts?
  • What if the character normally relies on some third party to power his abilities? For example: if the character in question comes from a sci-fi setting and uses a laser gun that he needs to regularly buy ammo for? Would the laser gun get infinite ammo, or else would it only serve the transformed person as long as the provided ammunition lasts and then become useless?

[up] 1. Yes. Skills and talents are also transferred, since you are literally transformed into that character.

2. Characters that normally have limited ammo or a power source they can't reasonably restore themselves wake up each day with full ammo, energy, etc.

Do the body of the characters change if the sources have modified bodies, like if I wanted to use Jet Stream Sam or Adam Jensen. Or an alien body lets say... The Martian Man-hunter.

Right now it's too late for me to fathom making a character. But I've got an idea for tomorrow.

Just posting this so that it'll show up in my thread watchlist and I'll remember to actually do it, mind. tongue

So, even with this new information, I'm not sure who to go with. Most likely options right now:

  1. A My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic pony - specifically a female non-unicorn for the hilarious genderswap and non-human body shenanigans that would entail.
  2. A Yu-Gi-Oh! protagonist for hilarious topdecks and cheese you would not believe.

I'd like other peoples' opinions on which would be most fun to play alongside. ^_^

And it's time for Sparty to bring the hurt as he usually does; with peace through superior firepower!

  • Human Name: Damien Wheelock
  • Character: Stand by for Titanfall.
  • Gender: Still male, thankfully
  • Age: 22 for the human. The Pilot... you really can't tell
  • Personality: The same as most of my characters - every roleplay needs the one laid-back jokester guy. Damien's always been an adrenaline junkie, and becoming a Pilot has increased his willingness to throw himself into risky situations.
  • Equipment: The usual for Mr. Rooty Tooty Aim and Shooty - he carries a knife, a tough-to-control machine pistol, an assault rifle, four grenades, and a guided missile launcher that must acquire a lock on before it can fire at anything. Notably, while it is not immediately evident his arms and legs are now prosthetics. A "jump kit" allows him to hang off of and run on walls, as well as letting him double-jump; it also allows him to survive lethal falls without being injured.
  • Powers: Slightly more stamina and strength than a regular human, but not by much. Capable of performing Le Parkour in conjunction with jump pack. Can use extremely powerful stimulant injectors to increase speed and reaction time for several seconds, though they have a long cooldown period to prevent overdosing. Once per day at max, and only when he would die without using it, Damien is capable of calling in a mini-mecha equipped with energy shields, a semi-automatic cannon, and a shoulder-mounted missile launcher to fight with. The mech is capable of using side-thrusters to "dodge" quickly, but it is not invincible, nor is it lightning-fast.

I'm willing to nerf the "once per day at max" thing to something less, but the general intent for the Not-So-Giant Death Robot is for it to come out in a situation where not using it would result in certain defeat or death. It can also be axed entirely if you feel it's still too OP, though the Ogre doesn't behave like a Mobile Suit or Armored Core - more like a big, stompy human with a suit of armor on.

  • Human Name: Irene Brun
  • Character: Kuroe/Chloe von Einzbern
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 19/13
  • Personality: Irene has a rather immature sense of humor, and a deep love of puns. She generally tries to be nice and kind to people, though the fact that she's nigh-constantly irritated by the fact that she has to go through puberty again.
  • Powers: First and foremost, Irene can create an object (mostly swords, though she's capable of making more mundane things, like chairs or paper fans) out of thin air. She can also create a magical bow, from which she can launch an unlimited amount of generic arrows or swords transformed into arrows. She can also create a shield, Rho Aias. Her strength, agility, and speed are much better than a human's, and she can teleport and fly.

Both of you are accepted.

Here's my main character to serve as another example (and make sure no one takes the character, unlikely as that is).

  • Human Name: Charles Raven
  • Character: Opal
  • Gender: Male/Genderless but feminine
  • Age: 23/Thousands
  • Personality: A stoic introvert, Charles is freaked out by his change, but doesn't show it. He is polite, but distant. Becoming Opal seems to make him more outgoing, however.
  • Powers: As Opal, he is now a 10-foot tall giant woman with four arms, granting him superhuman strength and agility. He can shapeshift to nearly any form, though he retains Opal's coloration, and if his body is damaged he will 'poof' and retreat into his Gems. Unless his Gems, located on his head and chest, are broken or separated, he will reform within the day. He can create energy bubbles that can contain things and can summon a bow from his Gems, which fires limitless arrows of light, and he can walk on water.

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?
