Ok, per mod decision, the purpose of this thread is to scrutinize and clean up pages about web sites. Other Sites, especially, has become a catch-all for "my favorite web site that I feel like pimping."

THE FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS:

  • A Web Site Is Not A Work For Troping Purposes: A website can contain tropable content, but the site itself does not automatically have a place with us simply by existing.
  • A Web Site That Is Not Tropable Can Sometimes Be Repurposed: It may have a place as a Useful Notes page, or serve as an index if it hosts a lot of works that we do trope.
  • User Antics Are Not Tropable: Trolls, mod decisions, forum drama. Such are Troper Tales and sources of spiritual decay. They must be purged, even from acceptable pages.
  • User Created Content Is Potentially Tropable: But most of it has its own categories already, such as Game Mod, Fan Fiction, or Journal Roleplay.

Put pages you believe should be completely cut in the crowner at the bottom. If you believe a page can be saved or migrated, make a post with details. Other Sites contains the primary targets right now, but any page about a web site should be scrutinized

Jesus Is Savior: Much of that is Zero Context Examples; frankly, I am inclined to cut on stub reasons.

Fur Affinity: The second example section looks like it's troping works on the site. That would be OK for me.

Commander Bond Dot Net: Fansite page; undecided.

E Bay: I can accept that page as a sort of trope-like page.

Zeldathon: Nearly all ZCE; I dunno.

How is eBay "trope-like"? It's being troped as a work.

as I said before Characters.Fundies Say The Darndest Things has that quote on it - "One of the Four Morons of the Apocalypse", and is a page dedicated to troping the userbase of the site. I'd say cut it as not on mission, and possible drama importation.

The website page itself (Website.Fundies Say The Darndest Things) also tropes real people.

Zeldathon sounds like it could be good if treated like a Let's Play page (which is essentially, what it is.) but at the moment is awful and would need much work.

Add it to the vote. (Show/hide options down at the bottom.) Anyone can add a page to be voted on.

YouTube: I'm thinking this could be repurposed into a Useful Notes page, considering how much of an impact the site has made onto popular culture.

Tumblr: to say that this site spawns flame wars is an understatement. At this point, I'm not sure what to do with the (locked) pages.

Fundies Say The Darndest Things is a parody of religious extremism. That's why it has tropes. Because it is a work.

[up]The thing is, that may violate Real Life people troping. (Theoretically. I'm dubious about how much of that site is non-fiction.) Also if the stories were posted on here, they'd definitely be Troper Tales stuff.

That character page has to die, for sure.

I am dubious that taking Real Life material into a work and troping it qualifies as "troping Real Life people", much less as Troper Tales, so I filed a [tdown].

Argh, I'm not going to be able to shepherd this. Computer is busted and I don't dare try mass cleanup on a phone. Anyone else that wants to take this over go ahead.

Just to chime in a little. Works doesn't have to be fictional or be atories to be works. Non-fictional works uses tropes too, and it's the trope usage is what's important.

If a page have three tropes about the website itself it shouldn't be cut.

"Doesn't contain a work" isn't a valid argument as the website itself is a work.

Nitpicking, but Jesus Is Savior shouldn't be cut because of that. It should be cut for lacking three valid tropes. Commander Bond Dot Net should also be cut for lacking three tropes, if someone can write up three valid examples it can be recreated.

How would GameFAQs be handled? The FAQs that the website hosts are indeed tropable, but the forums may not be. The forums have named multiple tropes, but are the major source of drama related to the site. In addition, GameFAQs has a potential historical context due to being responsible for the L-Block's fandom.

I thought this was the appropriate thread to bring Moonflux, a commentary website that was blanked a little while ago. Usually I'd simply ask for a revert, but is a website like this considered relevant for troping purposes?

Is it worthwhile to keep a page like Drinking With Bob around? It's iffily defining a vlogger ranting about Real Life as a "work of fiction".

Most of the examples are without context. So yeah, not a good page.

Are the items currently on the crowner ready to be called? The green ones all seem to have a 2/3 majority with >10 votes and to have met the time requirement.

Chatroulette: I'm not seeing how this is worthwhile even as a Useful Notes. It's just troping user antics on a notorious website.

One Manga: Defunct pirate website, no tropes or works.

Inter NIC: I suppose that page would be ok on wikipedia, but the site itself is pretty much of no interest to works of fiction unless it's been referenced somewhere.

VG Chartz: Not sure, but it's a Useful Note at best.

Autoguide XY: Site for car enthusiasts with basically no tropeworthy content, unless we want to trope other modern appliances like airplanes and refrigerators.

Natural News and Above Top Secret: Basically a collection of Conspiracy Theory rants about real life without any parodic content that could at least be conceived as a work.

We might be able to save FSTDT, but it would take a lot of work.

What would we do with Reddit? It's at least as controversial as Tumblr is.

What about Conservapedia. Most of it is just mocking the userbase. While that's fun, I don't think it deserves a trope page since it's not (supposed to be) fiction.

I think that Reddit and Tumblr shouldn't be about the user base, since that attracts drama. We should instead make it a useful notes page. Maybe put creators that have done AM As, or something similar.

Also Girl Writes What should probably be cut, since its not fiction.
