The staircase leads a few hundred feet underground to a system of tunnels containing sidewalks and canals that are fed by the storm drains on the surface. You walk along the sidewalks, staying close to the bluish stone walls and metal railings as you turn corners, cross bridges and pass by small boats. You get to the pet store, which is near a T-junction of three canals. You pause to watch the waterfall in the middle of the intersection for a few minutes before heading inside. You make your order at a bank of monitors just inside the door and then head up to the front desk to pick up the pet food. As the bag is heavy, you take one of the boats that serve as taxis back to the staircase and deliver the bag to your neighbor's front door.

The heroes are too late. The sorcerer's ascension has already begun and he is ready for them.
