A Game of Gods: Taskforce Sifuri

Go To

Long ago, an ancient superweapon, capable of shaping worlds, changing the laws of physics, and even influencing life and death, was lost. It was another casualty of a world-shattering war, that saw the deployment of indescribable horrors and carnage on a galactic scale. Its name was Sifuri, and, as the ashes settled on the remains of cities and combatants, it was decided that some things were best forgotten, and Sifuri faded from memory as its creators set about rebuilding and reconstuituting all that had turned to ashes. For billions of years, Sifuri lay abandoned and alone on a distant world, safely out of the ands of its creators and never to be used again.

But now, things are beginning to change. The embers of war are begining to stir. A powerful force looms on the horizon, and Sifuri may be all that stands between it and the destruction of its creators. Two criminals, seeking to atone for their misdeeds, assemble two competing teams- one based around the supernatural, the the other around the scientific- to recover the artefact. It will be a long and perilous quest across the multiverse to recover Sifuri... but will the forces of magic or science prevail?

Hello once more, and welcome to the signup thread for A Game Of Gods: Taskforce Sifuri. Now, the first thing that you're probably wondering is why exactly we need another spinoff. The answer is that this was initially going to be a plot in the current Infinities game, but due to my worry that the mini-epic would would take too long, I decided to spin it off into its own game. That said, this game is extremely close to Infinities, moreso than TOTG was to the original AGOG. Because of that, there will be several crossovers between the two. Besides that, all the same rules in AGOG, and general RPing etiquette should apply.

Signups

Naturally, the biggest 'gimmick', so to speak, of this RP is the fact that characters who have science-based powers are pitted against those who have magic based powers. I'm really hoping for even teams for this, so if we have too many people on one side than some people may be given control of a second character for the opposite team. Characters who use both magic and science, such as Magitek, will be admitted on a case-by-case basis.

  • Name: (self-explanatory)
  • Universe: (series they come from)
  • Background: (brief bio of their past, motivations, etc.)
  • Powers: (What they can do- keep it between 1-3 on the Super Weight scale)
  • Personality: (Also self-explanatory).

The game itself may not open for a while, so don't hold your breath. This is a way of seeing how may people want to sign up.

And now a new character approaches.

  • Name: Erza Scarlet
  • Universe: Fairy Tail
  • Appearance: Purtyain't she?
  • Personality: Erza is strictness incarnate, wrathful of anyone who exhibit bad behavior and habits when she is around them. She is also extremely impatient, expressing strong dislike for people who do not answer her questions quickly enough, and have little to no modesty. As such, she comes across as a very bizarre and scary individual, one that many of her teammates are fearful from. However, she also holds a great sense of justice and pride, and expresses remorse if she does not protect those dear to her.
  • History: Copypasta'd from MAL because I'm lazy (also SPOILERS if you want to watch Fairy Tail)...
    • Erza used to be a child slave where she was forced to help build a tower called the R-system. Over time Erza made friends with other slaves, among them was Gérard (or Jellal). When she and the other slaves tried to rebel, the evil magicians overwhelmed the slaves, but it was then when Erza's magic awakens and kills them all, setting them free from slavery.A cult tried to build this tower to resurrect Zeref. They had slaves to build it, Erza being one of them. Erza has another flashback. In the flashback Gerard tells her they have to fight to survive now. Caught by another guard Gerard get beat and she gets sent back to her prison. No longer able to take the abuse she attacks guards, starting the revolt. At first prevailing, mages start to show up and they begin to lose. A magic blast comes towards Erza, but Rob interferes, saving Erza, but killing him. She gets very angry triggering her magic. She controls all the swords around her and wins the battle for everyone. When everyone is on the boat to go home, Erza goes back in the dungeons to look for Gerard. Already possessed by Zeref, Gerard attacks Erza and tells her he is going to complete the R-System to resurrect Zeref's body. He tells her not to tell anybody about the tower or he will kill everyone. She then wakes up on an island crying about the events just witnessed. After Erza escapes from the island of slaves, she tries to find Fairy Tail. She had heard about Fairy Tail from an old man named Rob, another slave that was forced to work on the R-system, he also cared for her like a grandpa. Eight years prior to the beginning of the story, she found Fairy Tail and taken in as a member. Upon joining, Erza immediately developed a habit to wear armor, as it made her feel safe. It was around that time when Makarov took her to Porlyusica to get a artificial eye to replace her right eye that had became blind because of an injury.
  • Powers: As an S-Class Mage, Erza is one of the most powerful members of the Fairy Tail guild. She's an expert swordswoman, her physical strength, endurance, durability and magical power is high (capable of lifting things many times her own size) and she also has Telekinesis, in which she uses her mind to control her sword magic. But her most well known power is her Requip magic, which makes her change into not only various magical armors but also to other outfits, allowing her to change into various outfits at will at any given time. She can change into hundreds of different armors each with their own strengths in the magic department, but for here she'll have about 5 armors to use, which are:

Can I have a rough estimate of her strength, please? What's the heaviest thing she's been shown lifting?

Also, two hundred swords is a lot of swords. Especially considering that the enemy team's only 19 people.

Also for the purposes of this RP, instead of 200 swords, would roughly 50 swords suffice?

Yea, plus I think you could include more armors still :P

<- not GM

Also that 200 swords is basically spending every last ounce of her mana.. and then pushing past that and spending more. Its not like say Gilgamesh from fate stay who does the same thing as regular attacks without any more effort than lifting an arm.

The elemental armours are highly situational. I would have suggested adding the Adamantine armour at the very least. And probably mention her Sarashi & pants "not armour", if you're going to include that..

Well, since I'm getting so much other stuff done, might as well submit this before I come to my senses.

  • Name: Riesbyfe Stridberg note

  • Appearance: Have a look

  • Universe: Melty Blood

  • Background: A Knight Captain of no small renown in service to the Church, 'Sister Stridberg' led the Vastel Bow Bucklernote  knights against the Thirteenth Dead Apostle Ancestor, a living natural phenomenon made of rumours, fear and data named the TATARI or 'The Night Of Wallachia' and originally Zepia Eltnam Oberon. They were joined in this endeavour by the Vice-Director of the ATLAS Institute, an alchemist by the name of Sion Eltnam Atlasia, who had been sent when the Church petitioned for aid, due to being one of Zepia's descendants. Sion and Riesbyfe became extremely close during the time they were together.

This is about the part where Ries died horribly and was eaten by the TATARI. The knights had been ill-equipped to deal with something on the level of The Night of Wallachia, and were massacred. Riesbyfe was the last to die, buying time for Sion to escape.

However, despite being absorbed by the TATARI, her data was not dissolved as it should've been due to her Holy Shield, but remained dormant, but alive, deep within the vampire. Three years later, on the next occurrence of the TATARI, The Hologram Summer, Sion used her Etherlite to steal Ries's data from Wallachia, although she lacked the means to bring Ries back to life.

Another year later, another incarnation of the TATARI appeared: The Dust of Osiris, an alternate future version of Sion. The Dust attempted to recreate the Hologram Summer of the previous year to achieve the Sixth True Magic, with which she would destroy the Earth and leave behind an eternal record of all humanity's accomplishments. To this end, the Dust created a few TATARI avatars that had not been involved in the Hologram Summer as protection. One of them was Riesbyfe Stridberg (fully human and alive due to weirdness and Philosopher's Stone). Despite this, The Dust of Osiris was in the end defeated, and the mental program used to maintain Riesbyfe's existence was stolen by Sion, allowing Ries a second lease on life.

  • Powers:

    • Gamaliel Ichthys, The True Apocrypha: Riesbyfe's Shield/Pile Bunker/Lance/Stake/Cello, an extremely powerful Conceptual Weapon that forces the concept of 'Ruination' on those it strikes, it is nearly unbreakable. While Riesbyfe normally uses it as a shield or a lance, it can also be used as a Pile Bunker, firing off a holy stake made (somehow) of bible pages at extreme speeds, obliterating everything in it's way, particularly vampires, and exploding in holy light. It is also capable of generating shockwaves, rings of energy around the user, and emitting large electrified runes into the air. It also protects her from any form of mental assault.

    • Physical Abilities: Riesbyfe is extraordinarily strong, capable of effortlessly throwing punches with two tons of force behind themnote  (for reference, as far as I am aware it takes about half a ton to crush a human skull) and strike even harder with a weapon. She can also run at above-average rates, and can somehow jump or dash off thin air. She has also demonstrated the ability to withstand blows of at least equal strength to her own.

    • TATARI Avatar: Riesbyfe's current existence is similar to that of a Familiar or a Servant, reliant upon the prana flow from her 'master', in this case Sion, to remain alive. While this makes her more durable than she was as a human, it also means that cutting the flow will severely hamper her, although she is capable of surviving on her own. note  Not that this is an easy thing to do, as even Reality Marbles will not cut the connection. Also, as a side effect of the fact that Ries's conciousness is technically part of Sion's, they hear each other's thoughts and experience a certain amount of information bleed. Not terribly relevant, all told. But I felt it would be important to include in case of someone joining as Sion, or other potential happenings.

  • Personality: Riesbyfe is almost two different people depending on the situation; in combat she is ruthless and cold, seeing each and every task through to it's end unfailingly, and unhesitatingly tearing apart anything in her way, anything 'heretical'. Although, she generally tries to avoid harming the innocent, and may spare things that have the will and ability to atone. Any other time, Ries is a cheery and kind (albeit terribly blunt) elder-sister-y sort of person dedicated to her faith and her friends. Either way, Riesbyfe rarely spares a thought for the future and the consequences of her actions, although she generally comes off more as focused than reckless.

Riesbyfe greatly enjoys music, classical in particular, and is a skilled cellist, as well as having some skill with guitar and violin. She greatly appreciates well built concert halls, and would happily live in one if she could, although, Ries has demonstrated an ability to comfortably live just about anywhere, so perhaps that's not terribly surprising.

She is unfailingly loyal to Sion and takes her oath to be Sion's shield very seriously, being ready to lay down her life to keep her safe (again). She cares very deeply for Sion even aside of that oath, and is rarely apart from her.

Ries also tends to suffer greatly from Cuteness Proximity, particularly in the presence of White Len, Black Len, or Neco-Arc. Extremely violently, in the latter case. She is often mistaken for a man, which greatly upsets her. She has a tendency towards gratuitous musical metaphors, with some programming terms creeping in due to the information bleed of her link with Sion.

@nigelstack: Righto, after much discussion (and the fact that everyone seems to have piled on me in impassioned defence tongue), I think Erza will be acceptable. You may give her one more armor, as long as it isn't Adamantine/something similarly powerful because from what I hear the former is very tank. Also, her use of Heaven's Wheel should be extremely exhausting at around the 150-sword mark. Is that fine?

@Rhyme and Treason: -is still on the Ciel path of Tsukihime, has not played Melty Blood because it hates my computer-

Well then. I can't say I'm on very strong footing here (lore-wise), but I'll try my best. Question time.

Could you give me a comparison of Gamaliel's Wave-Motion Gun function to, say, Excalibur? How much prana does it take for Riesbyfe to activate it? I know Melty Blood is a fighting game, but how do you think she'd match up in combat to Ciel in a canonical situation, based on pure ability alone?

Also, I'd prefer it if she wouldn't be able to double-jump, because it's linked very specifically to the fact that Melty Blood is a fighting game, and thus possesses fighting game mechanics. By way of contrast, Maria Renard can double-jump, but that's because Double Jump is a spell/magical ability in the Castlevania-verse, and it makes sense for her to be able to cast it. Like you pointed out, there's honestly no reason for Riesbyfe to be able to double-jump. Jumping good would achieve the same effect without being inexplicable.

...Then again, I haven't finished Tsukihime, so if at any point someone executes a forward-dash off the air in the middle of a climactic battle, I will come back and say I'm sorry. tongue

And to add to this, while Maria can Double Jump because it IS a known magical ability in her world with items existing that can replicate it and others in her world that can't use that sort of jumping ability, despite it being a Platform Game. B.B. Hood can't despite being able to do so in the Darkstalkers series because there is no explanation for why she can beyond "This is a Fighting Game, LOL!"

It's not really a Wave-Motion Gun, I just phrased things really poorly (I wrote half of this ages ago and half of it yesterday, so there's a bit of inconsistency).

As far as I can tell, It fires off the stake, which flies straight forwards and explodes once it's hit someone. Or possibly it goes straight through and it's just the person that explodes. It's unfortunately difficult to tell exactly how it works when it's only really used in a fighting game special. Look, here's a video. It's therefore not really comparable to Excalibur, but I can say with certainty it is weaker than Excalibur. And I've no idea the prana usage, but probably high enough it's a one use at a time sorta thing.

As for ability in comparison to Ciel, Riesbyfe is weaker overall, but Gamaliel supposedly makes up the gap.

And okay, yeah, fighting game mechanics. That's fair. In terms of 'jumping good', as you put it, the manga shows her leaping about twice her height and several metres forwards, but it's not exactly canon, so...

Okay. So, she won't be able to spam Gamaliel; rather, the massive prana consumption forces her to rest and recharge after activating its abilities. It's super-effective against vampires and demons similar to the Nasuverse counterparts, and the physical impact is akin to an... anti-tank gun?

I dunno.
