All right I need a name for the origin of all existence, it's like a mix of the Primordial Chaos, Akashic Records, the Gate of Truth, Omniscient Database, and The Lifestream. The nexus of all universes.

As for what I need it for, it's a plot point that one of my main characters to reach it, to fully heal his soul, because it is fractured from all the times he has reincarnated, which normal souls just don't do, but he does because of his nature to help contain and be a good influence on the thing that he's fused with. More specifically, his human soul and the essence of the thing he was sealed with were fused at the beginning, with the thing damaging his soul, slowly but surely. Just before the protagonist, Cecil, died, the two split apart, both of them inheriting some of the other's good and bad traits. Cecil is trying to get back to life to fuse with it again.

Also, I need a name, or rather a title for their function, on an Eldritch Abomination that completely negate and destroy anything supernatural, designed as reality's immune system to prevent supernatural powers from even slightly wrecking reality.

[up][up][up] For the universe nexus I think something slanted to the data parts like the Databanks (or perhaps "the Soulbanks") would be appropriate

as for the eldritch half of the fusion, You should keep in mind that the original Eldritch Abominations were named in made up languages.

I need a name that sounds like the complete antithesis of "Serenity". Suggest as many as you can; the first one that comes to one's mind isn't necessarily the best suggestion, after all. I should know, since quite a few of my more brilliant story ideas were nowhere near the first that I came up with when tackling whatever part of the story/character I was focused on at the time.

  • Synonyms of Noisy

  • Synonyms of Discontent
  • Alternate Names of the Sun (since Serenity, Endymion and Usagi's Dubbed name were all derived form the myth of Selene)
  • Or Names pertaining to Warfare

I've settled on Calamity.

OK, now I need a name for a Captain Ersatz of Darkseid. It kinda rubs me wrong that Darkseid's name is so obviously derived from English words, despite the fact that the New Gods of New Genesis and Apokolips have no reason to be using English as a standard language; at least a name like "Highfather" is easily chalkable as being a literal translation into English of his actual name.

[up][up] Tyrannus (Greek source of the word Tyrant), if you take issues with the fact that earth languages was used at all, I'd suggest getting a Conlang and using that for the name

I need a name for a protagonist who delves into the physical psychological realms of the subconscious and the mind, and utilizes them along with everyone else for his powers.

Raz? You already have a Yuri, so it would make sense... sort of. Are you looking for a given name that reflects his background or a more generic deity/superhero title? For the latter, I've got: the Tinker, Soul-Weaver, Dreaming Eye, Fabricator, Mind Thief.

...is it just me, or are you also subconsciously drawing from Tinker, Tailor? tongue But yes, Raz or Rasputin would work for a reference.

Is there a feminine variant of the name Jesper?

Behind the Name says Jesper is the Danish form, and Jasper is related to [C/K/G]aspar as well. It is now associated with the gemstone and gemstones are pretty standard for girl names. So you could consider it unisex.

Or is this for some situation where Jesper and Fem!Jesper will be interacting and you want to prevent confusion?

Suggestions:

  • The obvious: Jess
  • Esperanza or Esperanta
  • Gemma, or some other gemstone (maybe a blue-green one since Jaspar is red-orange)

[down]Congrats you discovered the joke.

Trying to decide a name for a spy agency for a tabletop rpg I'm developing. I have two really good ideas for names, but they would both give really different ideas as to what kind of agency it would be and, more importantly, what kind of game too. It should be said that I'm going for a "Modern Bond" meets "Agents of SHIELD" and the new "Man from UNCLE" movie.

United Nations Security and Intelligence Directorate (UNSID)

or

ATLAS (Its purely based on the mythological character)

Thoughts?

[up] If you want the Agents of SHIELD thing to be a little blatant, I would suggest AEGIS (with a possible bacronym being "Agents of Espionage, Guardian's Intelligence and Security")

AEGIS was one I was thinking of when I was still in BACKRONYM EVERYTHING!!Mode. Might add it to the list as it is though considering I have ATLAS in there too.

You can always go the route that the acronym is not quite an amazingly relevant word. Perhaps a letter needs to be added/removed or a pair swapped. For example, the main agency in Code Name: Hunter is the Royal Center for Special Investigations (RCSI) pronounced Risky (RSCI).

So maybe the United Nations Security and Intelligence Directorate is called Unsaid rather than UNSID?

@Luthen: It's for a character whose name is supposed to be a Shout-Out to the former guitarists of Swedish band InFlames, those being Jesper Stromblad and Glenn Ljungstrom.

@Luthen and Morningstar: Just wanted to thank you two for your contributions and thoughts. I ended up with something of a compromise! The Agency is still the United Nations Security and Intelligence Directorate (UNSID), but is referred to as Unsaid in common parlance and speech.

The Agency's main base of operations though, is the Atlas complex. Think the Triskelion, but in New York.

Again, thanks guys!

[up] I'm curious, if I may: is there any meaning behind the name?

It kinda rubs me wrong that Darkseid's name is so obviously derived from English words ...
I'm no expert in comics, and I don't see support for this on Darkseid's Wikipedia page, but the latter half of his name could well come from a Norse term, if I'm not much mistaken: "Seidr", referring to a form of magic.
