Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.

     Eddie's old post
Looks like we have a big page lock coming. Big in the sense of many pages and big in the sense that the pages to be locked are too big.

It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine

They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.

I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

Media Classifications looks really long and too time-consuming to scroll through. I recommend making subfolders or creating subpages for that page.

[up] Since there's no too-long warning message when you try to edit the page, I suggest making folders instead of pages. They could be "Common Classifications Around the World," "Video Game Classifications," and "Other Ratings" (including the weirdly formatted "Porn" section).

[up] So... is anyone interested in making folders for Media Classifications?

I'd say to split archetypes into their own page.

And potentially classes.

We can look at splitting the trope list into its own subpage to start things off.

I'd probably start by moving the comic books to Comic Books of the 2010s (to go with the numerous existing pages like Films of the 2010s, Literature of the 2010s, Series of the 2010s, etc.). In fact, if it didn't require admin access or time at TLP, I would have already done just that.

Looks like there might be enough webcomics for a Webcomics of the 2010s page as well. But the comic book section is really big.

Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.

Ok, Comic Books of the 2010s has been made, and The New '10s is no longer too large. We might want to do more work on it, but the immediate crisis has been averted.

There are also Video Games of the 2010s, Western Animation of the 2010s, Series of the 2010s (all made in 2014), and Literature of the 2010s (made in 2013). Should we follow suit of The '90s and (preemptively) make a media page for Anime of the 2010s?

I mean by creating and editing a Sandbox/ page and then hollering for a mod.

We already have Anime of the 2010s. The confusing part is that it doesn't seem to include Manga, despite the fact that we usually put both together.

About the tropes of the current decade, do they need tweaking, since about half of those are about recent (western) politics?

Clean-up would make the page more focused and less likely to violate the Rule Of Cautious Editing Judgement, since at least the examples for The examples for the Deep South, Crack Defeat, Dirty Cop, Can't Catch Up, The Cobbler's Children Have No Shoes, Calling the Old Man Out, Capitalism Is Bad, and Black-and-White Insanity are exclusively political, with little significant reference to how those tropes are used in media.

[up]There's one comment in the discussion page that the page has a severe case of We All Live in America , and another said that the page sounded depressing and accurate. Seems this page is in need of a cleanup.

Like, The New '10s cleanup thread.

Noteworthy Disney Staff says the page is too long. Personally, I don't think it really needs to include everyone who has ever worked with Disney in the tiniest capacity.

Also, we should probably list them on Overly Long Pages instead of merely posting here.

I'm thinking of splitting off Too Soon for TooSoon.Live Action Television, it's the biggest folder. Might do a page for Film, too. (not throwing up a warning, but the edit box was taking a long time to load, and when I checked the chars and it's getting high.

We Are Not Alone Index is throwing up the warnings and is about 700000 long. Because of the content, I think we should keep the page as it is and move all the folders onto their own pages. Can someone open We Are Not Alone Index Zero To D, We Are Not Alone Index E To H, We Are Not Alone Index I To L, We Are Not Alone Index M To P, We Are Not Alone Index Q To T and We Are Not Alone Index U To Z, please?
