YMMV / VShojo

Go To

  • Adorkable: Don't let her other career paint her as anything but this; Melody is a quirky and lovable girl even when discussing her lewd interests. One such case of her dorkiness is choosing to have a "k" in her name under the belief that it sounded more "sci-fi".
  • Americans Hate Tingle: While nobody in the company is losing any sleep over it, the fact is that Kson joining the company effectively killed any chance they had at succeeding in mainland China. This was best shown when the most prolific VShojo clipper on Bilibili shut down their channel in protest. That said, pretty much everyone else in the world has received Kson warmly.
  • Broken Base: VShojo partially consisting of reincarnated VTubersnote  has received both praise and scorn from the larger community. Some fans praise this for helping to get talents back into the scene with freedoms and/or resources they might not have had in their old identities, and in some cases the change from their former careers to being with VShojo has been seen as a massive improvement in their circumstances. On the other hand, others consider it tantamount to poaching and, especially with regards to VShojo Japan, it's seen by some as a cynical attempt on VShojo's part to try and brute-force their way into the Japanese market. It also doesn't help that after having done it so much, there's now an expectation that popular corporate Vtubers who graduate will reincarnate into a VShojo member, which rubs some the wrong way as new members can get spam speculated as being an old popular identity, reducing any hype into just a guessing game. Geega, for her part, has made it clear that she will never use her content to feed that kind of speculation.
  • Epileptic Trees:
    • Just a three-second clip of Nazuna talking in the stinger for Kson's lore video was enough to send the entire VTubing fan community into an epileptic fit and wild speculations on who she really is, with frequent reaction YouTubers such as Koefficient finding her voice incredibly familiar.
    • A similar thing happened in the lead-up to Henya's debut, though in her case, it was based on how she acted on social media. Instead, her distinctive voice, cadence, and signature laugh confirmed everyone's suspicion once she debuted properly.
  • Fan Nickname:
    • Henya is widely referred to as a "kettle" thanks to her high-pitched, whistling laughter that gets very commonly compared to the sound of a boiling kettle.
    • Matara Kan, a motherly cockroach lady, is often called "Mama Roach" by fans.
    • Whenever CDawgVA is forced to buy a Cinnamoroll doll for Ironmouse, it is humorously called the "Mouse Tax".
  • Fandom-Enraging Misconception: As a consequence of being The Voiceless and mainly using speech-to-text-to-speech for audience interaction, for a while, almost every video involving Zentreya had at least one comment saying this is irrefutable proof that she must actually be a guy. This has seemed to simmer down over the years. Disregarding the fact that refusing to use a mic, just like using a digital avatar in place of a face-cam, can have a wide variety of reasons, her biggest followers know that her main reason is stronger security from doxxing than VTubing already provides. This may imply that her real voice is extremely recognizable and easy to track.
  • Fandom Rivalry: A minor one flared up between Henya and Froot when the former joined, though the reasons are a bit too hot-button to bring up here. This thankfully died down when the two were seen to get along just fine.
  • Foe Yay Shipping: Though they have a Sitcom Arch-Nemesis dynamic at worst and a Vitriolic Best Buds dynamic at best, a lot of people have been shipping Mouse and CDawgVA after their collab streams. Their tendency to constantly bicker Like an Old Married Couple and their few and sparse Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other moments in some of their streams probably didn't help matters. At one point, it got so bad that Mouse had to issue a statement for her viewers to "chill it with the Connor stuff", and essentially urged her followers to Abandon Shipping. She later reiterated her stance on shipping, stating that she thinks it's "cute" and doesn't really mind it "as long as people don't make it weird." It only becomes a problem when it starts overwhelming everything else she does.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • It's difficult to be a fan of one member of VShojo without being a fan of at least one of the others, given their frequent collabs, tendency to talk each other up (which often involves flirting), and often ending their streams by sending their viewers to the stream of another VShojo member (if any are online at the time).
    • The VShojo members are friends with several independent VTubers who they collaborate with and expose to their fanbase similarly to their fellow VShojo members: Momo, Snuffy, Mira Pink, and Veibae, just to name a few.
      • This fandom overlap grew stronger after Vei and Haruka joined the group, as this means any of the other independent VTubers who are friends of VShojo have the potential to join as well.
    • By far, the most famous fandom overlap is the fanbase between Ironmouse and CDawgVA. These two collab so often, in no small part because of their Vitriolic Best Buds dynamic, that it's not out of the blue to see view counts of clips of them together reach in the millions. It has reached the point that when one searches for CDawg, Ironmouse will be there and vice versa. The fandom of these two, as such, has gotten to the level where they are basically one and the same, which is unheard of.
      • This extends even into their respective groups, as VShojo and Trash Taste tend to have a lot of overlap as well, and again, the fandoms are so close that any distinction is miniscule at best.
    • Many fans of the VShojo members also tend to be fans of hololive. When they were still independent, their fans would often ask them about joining or becoming affiliated with Hololive in some way. Now that that possibility's become far less likely with the formation of VShojo, they've moved on to asking about collabs with Hololive's members instead, which has happened several times since. They also tend to reference Hololive's members and various Running Gags associated with them whenever the opportunity arises.
    • There's a similar overlap between VShojo and Nijisanji as well. This has been helped via collabs between VShojo and Nijisanji's English, Japanese, and Indonesian branches.
    • VShojo fans are on good terms with fans of VOMS Project due to frequent collabs between Kson and Pikamee, one of its former members.
  • Genius Bonus: The equation displayed on Henya's inner dress is the "Standard Model Equation", one of the most fundamental equations in Quantum mechanics.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff:
    • Nyan has a significant number of Russian viewers, enough to discuss this on-stream.
    • Froot also has a sizable Russian fanbase.
    • There is a significant number of Russian comments popping up in Matara Kan's streams and videos. Considering her very name is essentially a transliteration of "mother cockroach" in Russian, it's pretty safe to say she fully embraces and encourages this trope.
    • Mouse has many fans in Spanish-speaking countries (appropriate, considering she's Puerto Rican), enough that she began doing occasional Spanish-only streams and is working on establishing a YouTube channel specifically for posting her content with Spanish subtitles.
    • Despite being a European VTuber working with an American talent agency, Vei has the largest Japanese following of all the VShojo streamers.
    • In the opposite direction, despite being a native Japanese speaker with only a basic knowledge of English, Nazuna achieved a sizable English-speaking fandom well before her debut stream.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Mousey's Child-Like Voice is adorable in many cases, crossing into hilarious when she goes on a swearing tirade (as one fan put it, "Voice of an angel, mouth of a sailor."). And then came her ''Washington Post'' interview, where she revealed her high-pitched voice is a by-product of her common variable immunodeficiency.
    • Haruka's reaction to Mousey's Gallows Humor regarding COVID became more awkward to watch after she herself caught it. Even worse when it turned out to be long COVID, derailing her stream plans for months while she recovered.
    • Silvervale is a known fan of the Harry Potter franchise, so when Hogwarts Legacy came out, the game was a childhood dream come true. Just look at her childlike wonder when she got her first wand. At first, it is indeed adorable. Unfortunately, she immediately received immense pushback and even harassment due to the controversies surrounding the books' author. She was affected so badly, she broke down crying on stream.
    • VShojo fans had sometimes boasted that the group stuck together despite some bumps in the road, often quoting Gunrun's "talent-first" pledge as a reason its members remained loyal to the group. Unfortunately, at the end of April 2023, founding members Silvervale and Nyanners, as well as Veibae, announced their departure from VShojo. For a smaller-scale VTubing group like them, this was a major shock as not only did three out of their eleven talents at the time just up and quit, but the three of them - especially Nyanners - were extremely large and recognizable VTubers to boot note . Add onto that a series of tweets Vei made explaining why she left, citing dissatisfaction with her contract, and genuine fear began to emerge that VShojo was imploding out of nowhere. However, in the wake of the debuts of Henya, Geega, Kuro Kurenai, and Matara Kan, the conversation has largely shifted from "is VShojo going to crash and burn" to "is [X graduating Vtuber] going to reincarnate in VShojo".
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Ironmouse's Cinnamoroll addiction is both incredibly adorable and hilarious because of how committed she is to collecting nearly every single item of Cinnamoroll merchandise out there. Connor is also joked about and meme'd as Mouse's personal Cinnamoroll dealer.
    • Melody is the center of the "Bros Glad" meme, a more positivity-oriented offshoot of "Hoes Mad" which focuses on solidarity between people who enjoy a controversial thing, rather than mocking the anger of those who don't like said thing. (It's also hilarious in that the terms "Hoes Mad" and "Bros Glad" exactly describe the reactions of camgirls and Mel's viewers following her debut.)
    • The company itself has been meme'd as the "VTuber retirement home" or "Isekai for VTubers" due to how many well-known former corporate VTubers have ended up signing with them after their corporate graduations.
    • Henya's tendency to scream "ZEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNN!" when Zentreya does something to annoy her. She's done it often enough that creators have compiled her screams.
    • After Kuro revealed his face, fans began comparing his looks to Tekken project director, Katsushiro Harada, to the point that some fans jokingly asked him when he's going to release the new updates or new characters, much to Kuro's chargin.
  • Moe: Nazuna is gushed over by both the talents and the fans as the little sister of VShojo. Having a petite figure and a wholesome personality, as well as being the only one in VShojo as of right now that's seiso, has made her one of if not the most adorable VTubers in not just VShojo but the entire community.
  • Most Wonderful Sound:
    • The various little sounds that Melody makes. She has been asked to compile them, but since she finds them embarrassing, she has stated that any such compilation would have to be made by fans. Of course, some were quick to answer that call. When Melody finally saw it (in her Melware persona), she was absolutely mortified. Though, she eventually came around enough to have this video created and posted.
    • Froot's soft voice and the many noises she makes are considered very pleasing to listen to. Despite what she initially thought, her voice is considered a favorite.
    • While Mouse's singing is already loved, her opera singing voice is even better received by fans.
    • Any time Mousey sneezes.
    • Nazuna's attempts at speaking English. She's earnestly trying, and it's adorable.
      • Some people consider Nazuna's screams to be this as well, often commenting on their similarity to a singer in a death metal band. Others like it because of its having been a well-known recurring element of her previous life.
    • Henya's distinct kettle-like laughter is a joy to listen to, also in part because of having been a well-known recurring element of her previous life.
    • Whenever Matara says "hi honey" or "bye honey."
  • Never Live It Down: Haruka accidentally initiating a romance with The Emperor, including consummation, will likely follow her as "squid diddler" throughout the rest of her days as both other VShojo talents and their fans take sadistic glee at her embarrassing accomplishment. Especially Zentreya.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • Nyanners' origin story puts her Eldritch Abomination status to the forefront, with plenty of Cthulhu Mythos influence:
      • As far as she knew, Nyan (implied to be Nyarlathotep, the Crawling Chaos) was created for the sole purpose of finding the remaining "seeds of life" and "lighting the beacon" to end it all. She eventually learns the full extent of her purpose, right after developing a new life with the VShojo girls - she's intended to extend the life of Azathoth and awaken them with her "harvest." The hellish screeches accompanying the entity's appearances in the flashbacks give the impression that it's screaming at her to destroy all life.
"THE SEED OF LIFE WAS PLANTED THROUGHOUT THE EXPANSE, AND HARVESTED SINCE THE BEGINNING. CHAOS AND DESPAIR MUST BE WITNESSED BY LIFE, SO THAT WE MAY LIVE. THERE ARE YET WORLDS WHICH LIE UNHARVESTED, AND SO YOU MUST TRAVEL BEYOND THE EDGE, TO WHERE THE SEEDS OF LIFE MAY REMAIN.

THE FARTHEST EDGE OF THE EXPANSE, LIGHT THE BEACON OF CHAOS. SO THAT WE MAY AWAKE FROM OUR SLUMBER ONCE AGAIN."
      • Upon first finding the "seed of life", planet Earth, Nyarlathotep proceeds with her directive: slaughtering and enslaving humanity. Though, it is generally offset by the BGM at that moment being a heavily distorted version of Nyan's rap cover of "Anaconda". The aftermath certainly pulls its weight, though: hundreds if not thousands of crosses surround Nyarlathotep, each having a human being crucified and drained for their life and sanity.
      • After being sealed for 2,000 years weakened their power, Nyan and Goro scoured the modern world to recover via inducing Sanity Slippage in twisted humans. The process is demonstrated by her encountering a random thug that initially threatened her, transforming from her Cat Girl appearance to her true form and doing something to the guy to reduce him to a traumatized mess.
    • Heavenfall is pretty eerie, primarily due to two factors: The sudden appearance of Hell Queen!Ironmouse in The Stinger, and the sheer Nothing Is Scarier nature of the Creator. Mouse (who went by Satanael during those days) decided to open the gates to the Creator out of boredom and curiosity, effectively causing a mass Go Mad from the Revelation that reverberated so far through Heaven that Nazuna, who was incredibly far from the gate itself and likely only got a small glimpse of what was behind the gate, was so affected that she lost nearly all her memories and fell down to Earth. It's implied that so many heavenly beings witnessed this event (including Bubi, Vox Akuma, and Nina Kosaka) that it singlehandedly brought demonkind as a whole into existence, as shown by a still of Calliope Mori standing in front of an entire field of fallen angels.
      • Then there's the punishment Satanael received for opening the gate: being sealed in a tiny box for eons, deprived of all her senses but still aware of her situation for what would have been eternity had Bubi not broken her out. It's even worse when you realize the entire thing is effectively a metaphor for Mouse's real-life condition.
  • Play-Along Meme: Henya—quite contrary to her lore-based persona as the genius of VShojo—has a reputation for having conspicuous gaps of logic and making a lot of silly mistakes. Fans like to play along with this disconnect, with the common joke being that her questionable logic is, in fact, a demonstration of her 999 IQ-level genius, and we simply aren't smart enough to understand. A related bit of fanon cites the fact that it's actually quite common for smart people to be scatterbrained, and by extension, Henya's ditziness is a direct consequence of her impossibly high IQ.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: "Dragonfroot", for Zen and Froot. Initially, it was just to refer to their collabs together, as Froot's first one-on-one collab was a Portal 2 playthrough with Zen, but as Ship Tease between the two increased, the term could be considered this now.
  • Shocking Moments:
    • During the 2022 Anime Expo, the reveal that Kson was joining VShojo as part of a brand-new Japanese branch, alongside an entirely new VTuber. Furthermore, the other member's voice was teased in The Stinger of Kson's lore video; without breaking the Open Secret, she sounded very familiar.
    • Henya's debut made quite the splash as simply hearing her voice confirmed many early-bird theories about her identity. Again, without spoiling the Open Secret, she was popular long before joining VShojo, but ended up having a well-publicized and bittersweet retirement that seemingly ended her online presence for good. To say fans of her past life were ecstatic to discover that she'd become reincarnated as Henya, only a month and a half after retiring her old persona no less note , would be a massive understatement.
    • Kuro's debut also caused a ruckus in much the same way as Henya's, as not only was the gap between the retirement of his previous persona and his VShojo debut even smaller than Henya's, he also has the honor of being the first male member of VShojo, opening up more possibilities for who else could potentially join in the future. This possibly lessened the shock factor of Matara's debut, as her previous persona was part of the same agency as Kuro and left said agency around the same time; so the moment a new member was announced just two weeks after Kuro's debut, fans quickly concluded that he didn't come to VShojo alone.
  • Ugly Cute: Zen's "Gecko Zen" form, which started as an April Fool's joke, only to become a regular part of her streams.
  • Viewer Species Confusion:
    • Silver is a wolf/sakura spirit but is often mistaken for a kitsune or catgirl.
    • Mouse is often confused for a mouse or a cow, even though she isn't even animal-themed at all, being a demon queen instead. This seems to have died down a bit as she unveiled more obviously-demonic-looking forms of herself note . She's seemingly lampshaded this with models that do have mouse ears.
    • Froot is a lich who's often mistaken for a succubus. At least some of this is because of fans who do know better but just enjoy listening to her adorably deny being a succubus.
    • Haruka often has to contend with being called a moose or deer even though her species is in her name, Karibu (Caribou).
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: It may feature cute anime girls, but none of the members of VShojo should be watched by kids.
    • The EN girls usually indulge in swearing, frequently talk about sex and related topics, often show cleavage, and are often lewd. Even Froot, probably the most "tame" member of the EN group, is nowhere near kid-friendly.
    • Kson may not show cleavage (at least not with her current "delinquent" outfit), but the rest of the above applies - especially if you've seen her previous work.
    • Nazuna currently doesn't really fall into the above, though her skimpy outfit, moments of swearing, and death metal-esque screams make her not kid-friendly, either.
    • Henya might like to try and be family-friendly, but even though she's certainly among the more prudish of the group, she still has prominently displayed cleavage, along with moments of swearing.
