Examples

  • Accidental Suicide: Clown 7 in Fortnite the Movie 5: Vengeance.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Many, many examples.
    • The Spyman featured Secret Spyman on a mission, originally leading into Fortnite the Movie 5: Vengeance.
    • Old Times focuses on The Cowboy.
    • Larva focuses on The Demon and their rise to power.
    • Bigmouth features the titular character.
    • The Clown and The Roadtrip are both solely about the hijinks that The Clown gets up to.
  • Aerith and Bob: Many of the characters have insane and borderline ridiculous names.
  • The Alleged Car: Subverted with Slappy's car. It may look rusted and worn out, but it's an extremely fast and tough car
  • All There in the Manual:
    • Since the films feature barely any dialogue, a lot of backstory and lore is found on the official wiki.
    • The full names of certain characters:
      • Norm's full name is Norman Bladder.
      • Joker Knockoff/Jokester's full name is Jokeman Ranch.
      • Mime Hahahhwhehhe is the full name of Mime.
      • The main character in Cop Movie is Officer Cheesesmith.
      • The name of the unnamed clown in Last of the Clowns is Jungles.
  • All There in the Stinger: Both The Wreckage and Fortnite the Movie 9: Day of the Clown feature a very similar stinger, where we see The Demon and Mime respectively meeting with The Oni, setting up the final portion of the series.
  • Anachronic Order: The Spyman Unleashed quadrilogy, as each film is not released one after the other chronologically.
  • Anyone Can Die: No character in this series survives. Best shown in Fortnite the Movie 9: Day of the Clown where almost every one of the main characters die.
  • Arc Villain:
    • Jokeman Ranch in Fortnite the Movie 3-9.
    • The Demon during seasons two to four of The Norm Show.
    • The Oni in the Reboot quadrilogy and the fourth season of The Norm Show.
  • Arch-Enemy: The Cowboy to Bigmouth.
  • Asshole Victim: Yep, there's a lot of them.
  • Axe-Crazy: Dear lord, the entire cast.
  • Back for the Dead: Jesus in Jesus vs Rampage: Yawn of Justice. His last appearance was roughly 20 films prior.
  • The Bad Guy Wins
    • The Demon in The Wreckage
    • The Oni in TNS 12.
    • Jokeman Ranch in Fortnite the Movie 7: The Rise of the Clown.
    • The Cowboy in The Cowboy Contract. His victory is extremely short lived though.
  • Bad Is Good and Good Is Bad: Dirt may not be the main antagonist, but he isn't a good man.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Fortnite the Movie 6. Many characters have been killed and The Clown has returned, however Dirt is able to go into hiding and live free from gunfights and danger.
  • Black Dude Dies First: Completely and utterly averted. Mime survives the first two films despite apparently being shot in both. Mime even survives Fortnite the Movie 9: Day of the Clown, the movie where majority of the main cast is killed off, only to finally be killed in Fortnite the Movie: Reign of The Oni, the third last film in the whole series.
  • Book Ends: Ab-Norm-Al ends where Fortnite the Movie takes place, as it was the three year anniversary of the series when released.
  • Boom, Headshot!: Yeah, quite a lot of them.
  • Bottle Episode: Almost all of Knives Out 2 takes place in the house.
  • Breather Episode: Fortnite the Movie 4 can certainly apply. While the tone or ending of Fortnite the Movie 3 isn't exactly tragic or negative, the chaos and hijinks ensuing in the film is not present in the proceeding film, making Fortnite the Movie 4 a much calmer film.
  • Burial at Sea: Beach Girl in Fortnite the Movie 5: Vengeance.
  • The Cameo:
    • Samboy in Cop Movie.
    • The Clown in Mime Time.
    • Norm in Jesus!
  • Catchphrase:
    • The Clown's infamous "Crap!".
    • Jesus' "Not cool!". Doubles for Last Words
  • Cerebus Syndrome:
    • Fortnite the Movie 8: Enemy of the Clown immediately begins with the death of the protagonist. This along with the lack of music and heavier death count set the tone for this film quite quickly.
    • Ab-Norm-Al immediately opens with what looks like Norm's death. This as well as The Demon stalking Norm for the remainder of the season add tension and a darker element to the series.
  • Character Development: Norm goes from psychotic mass murderer to highly skilled assassin over the course of the series.
  • Chase Fight: No brainer.
  • The Chessmaster: The Oni. Everything up until A New Legacy has been planned and moulded by him.
  • Christmas Episode: The Fortnite the Movie Holiday Special.
  • Clone Army: The clowns.
  • Continuity Nod: The Demon's car that is seen throughout the second, third and fourth seasons of The Norm Show was created from the scraps of Norm's original car, which was destroyed in Granny Business.
  • Cop Killer: Most characters are. Makes sense. Fuck all cops.
  • Darker and Edgier: Fortnite the Movie 8: Enemy of the Clown definitely fits this trope, as well as seasons 2 to 4 of The Norm Show.
  • Deadly Road Trip: Basically the plot of The Roadtrip.
  • Death as Comedy: The thing about comedy is that it's meant to be funny.
  • Death by Falling Over
  • Death Mountain:
    • Mt Slippery. Many characters have fallen off this mountain. They've somehow survived too.
    • Camp Lakebottom. Originally, this was The Cowboy's turf, but after Norm slaughtered most of The Cowboy's gang in The Cowboy Contract, it was left abandoned. In Fortnite the Movie 8: Enemy of the Clown, Jokeman Ranch would eventually find Camp Lakebottom and turn it into his own base, was well as command the remnants of The Cowboy's gang. Fortnite the Movie 9: Day of the Clown features Jokeman Ranch battling Dirt in said base.
  • Decoy Protagonist:
    • Jeane. Originally planned to be the main star of Fortnite the Movie 7: Rise of the Clown, Fortnite the Movie 8: Enemy of the Clown and Fortnite the Movie 9: Day of the Clown, the decision to kill her off was made late into the production of Fortnite the Movie 8: Enemy of the Clown as a way to shock the viewers.
    • Gustavo in The Gustavo Show. After Norm is gunned down by The Demon in the previous episode, the focus shifts to Gustavo Pepperoni. This only lasts until halfway through the episode though.
  • DĂ©nouement Episode: Last of the Clowns is essentially the unofficial finale of the main nine films, as it sees Norm chasing down Jungles, who is, as the title suggests, the last of the clowns.
  • Denser and Wackier:
    • Knives Out 2. It's a fun mystery movie with only three characters. It's also the shortest, barring the Holiday Special and the canonical teasers.
    • Mime Time. The plot is as clear as a brick.
    • Fortnite the Movie 3 Part Two. What on earth is going on?
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Jokeman Ranch is nothing compared to The Oni. Nothing.
  • Downer Ending: Majority of the films, since they all feature many deaths.
  • Disney Death: So many fucking examples.
    • The Clown in Fortnite the Movie 2. He gets better.note
    • Norm in The Cowboy Contract and The Wreckage
    • Jokeman Ranch and The Spyman in Fortnite the Movie 6.
    • Mime in pretty much every appearance.
    • Big Norm in Goliath.
  • Disney Villain Death: Beach Girl in Fortnite the Movie 5: Vengeance and Ab-Norm-Al, since both films take place at the same time.
  • Distant Finale: Fortnite the Movie X takes place long after the events of Epilogue.
  • The Dragon: The Demon to The Oni.
  • Dying to Be Replaced: Basically any non main character, especially the clowns.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The Oni in The Wreckage.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • The first two films end with "Number #1 Victory Royale", referencing the game Fortnite.
    • The first film features more talking compared to the rest of the series.
    • The cinematography of the first (and sometimes second) film is noticeably different and much less static.
    • Granny Business lacks a real plot and features Norm mercilessly gunning down a number of civilians. The rest of the series has many different arcs and storylines, whereas Granny Business was created at a time where the future of The Norm Show was still in development.
  • Ensemble Cast: The series holds many protagonists and antagonists. If you want to get technical, they're called main characters.
    • Dirt is essentially the main protagonist from Fortnite the Movie until Fortnite the Movie 9: Day of the Clown which features his death.
    • Jokeman Ranch is the main antagonist in the main series of films, although is introduced slightly later in the series during Fortnite the Movie 3. Like Dirt, he is killed in Fortnite the Movie 9: Day of the Clown.
    • Bigmouth, beginning as a one off character has become a protagonist as well, featuring in the final two films in the main saga, two films of her own and in many other films as a cameo.
    • Norm Bladder. Possibly the protagonist of the whole series. Other than his appearances in his own spinoff show, Norm has made several appearances in the main saga and in a number of spinoff films. Ironically, Norm is not present in the final episode of his own show, as his death was featured an episode prior, in TNS 12.
    • Mime, first appearing in the first film has made countless appearances throughout the series, including his own spinoff film. Mime even miraculously survives past Fortnite the Movie 9: Day of the Clown, which is notorious for killing essentially all previous main characters and well into the Reboot quadrilogy and Season 4 of The Norm Show.
    • The Clown. Appearing throughout the series, first seen in the original Fortnite the Movie, and last seen in Fortnite the Movie 9: Day of the Clown, as well as a number of spinoffs, including two of his own.
    • The Oni, the main antagonist of the Reboot quadrilogy and Season 4 of The Norm Show.
    • Samboy and Slappy, the duo from the Reboot series who constantly fight against The Oni alongside each other, as well as many other reoccurring characters, such as Norm.
  • Every Car Is a Pinto: Seen in most of the films, cars explode constantly.
  • Evil Doppelgänger: Big Norm. He's basically Norm, but bigger. And more skilled. He's Norm if Norm wasn't a wimp. Just kidding, they're both wimps. The two aren't exactly related in any way, Big Norm is simply someone that just looks like Norm.
  • Fanservice: The many foot shots in Fortnite the Movie 5: Vengeance.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: As Norm drives off after fighting Big Norm at the end of Goliath, he passes The Demon's car, who briefly stalks Norm as he drives away.
  • Foil:
    • Norm has two foils-
      • Gustavo is a more skilled assassin and quickly replaces Norm after his encounter with The Demon and eventually replaces Norm as the protagonist after his death in TNS 12.
      • Big Norm is a much more ruthless and determined character than Norm. Norm barely survives his encounter with Big Norm and barely gets the jump on him. Unfortunatly, this doesn't stop Big Norm at all.
    • Dirt and Jokeman Ranch are each other's foil. On each side is a determined and highly skilled character, but Dirt is slightly more heroic than Jokeman, as Jokeman held a very large criminal empire during his reign.
  • Grand Finale: Fortnite the Movie X. Nothing is known about this film, other than it will be the final released film in the series, ending the franchise after every other film has been released and every story told.
  • High-Speed Missile Dodge: Done by Dirt in Fortnite the Movie 6 during his battle with Jokeman Ranch.
  • How We Got Here:
    • Parts One of Fortnite the Movie 3 shows the series of events that leads to Dirt being shot at. It's revealed in Part Two that in reality, Dirt was not getting shot at. Cop was just attempting to put down a clown running nearby.
    • The second season of The Norm Show begins with The Demon destroying Norm's second car and seemingly killing Norm afterwards. The rest of the season follows Norm on his adventures whilst being hunted by The Demon.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Jokeman Ranch did the things he did and killed who he killed in order to stop The Oni from rising to power.
  • Joker Immunity: Pretty much everyone in the series is immortal. Until they're not.
  • Killed Off for Real: Oh boy, here we go. Nearly every character in the series ends up dying eventually, so we'll go through the most important deaths.
    • Dirt, Jokeman Ranch, The Clown and Bigmouth all die in Fortnite the Movie 9: The Day of the Clown.
    • The Demon in Dance with the Devil.
    • Shockingly, Norm himself is killed off in the second last episode of The Norm Show during his battle with The Oni.
    • Jesus in Jesus vs Rampage: Yawn of Justice.
    • Fortnite the Movie 8: Enemy of the Clown features two. Jeane, the supposed protagonist of the Supremacy trilogy ends up dying before the opening titles. The Cowboy is also killed off in this film by Bigmouth.
    • The Spyman in Spyman Unleashed: Devil May Spy.
  • Mind Screw: Unintentionally.
  • Mirror Match: Goliath.
  • Missing Episode:
    • The first four films and The Spyman.
    • The original pilot episode of The Norm Show
  • My Death Is Just the Beginning: Heavily implied in relation to Jokeman Ranch's death in Fortnite the Movie 9: The Day of the Clown
  • My Name Is ???: Dirt's name isn't revealed until his own two part series, despite appearing in almost all of the main nine films and the prequel prior to this.
  • Mysterious Watcher: The Demon to Norm.
  • No Ending: So many films apply. So fucking many.
    • Mime Time ends with Mime going on a rampage and destroying every car he sees, and then wandering off.
    • The Clown, although it has no plot to begin with.
    • Jesus. After somehow finding a plane, Jesus crashes it, wanders off and gets hit by a train.
    • Fortnite the Movie 3 Part 2 ends abruptly while Dirt is driving around.
  • Nothing Is the Same Anymore: Heavily implied during Reign of The Oni. Norm is dead. Mime is dead. Samboy is dead. Three major players have all been killed and The Oni remains in power.
  • Plot-Triggering Death: Jokeman Ranch. As dastardly as they were, they were the only thing holding back The Oni.
  • Police Brutality:
    • Cop in Fortnite the Movie and Fortnite the Movie 3 is extremely happy shooting whoever he sees
    • Officer Cheesesmith in Cop Movie. It's baffling how she hasn't been fired.
  • Post-Release Retitle: The first seven films were retitled due to legal reasons, however keep the same original title in the films themselves.
  • Post-Script Season: The Reboot quadrilogy could possibly apply. It originally was meant to be a trilogy of films unconnected to the main saga, however during development of The Norm Show, it was decided to carry on the storyline being told right into the quadrilogy. Essentially, Executive Meddling led to the storylines directly leading into each other.
    • Fortnite the Movie X. It's a one off film serving as the official epilogue to the universe, and will release after everything else has been released. Nothing is known about this film, as pre-production shall commence after everything prior to it has been released to the public.
  • Professional Killer:
    • Gustavo Pepperoni. His first appearance in The Gustavo Show! shows you how skilled he is, especially compared to Norm.
    • Norm Bladder by the time of In the Pale Moonlight.
  • The Remake: Done quite a few times unfortunately due to each of these films being a Missing Episode.
    • The Fortnite the Movie Remake is a remake of the original Fortnite the Movie.
    • Zack Snyder's Fortnite the Movie 2 is a remake of Fortnite the Movie 2.
    • Fortnite the Movie III is a remake of Fortnite the Movie 3 Part One and Fortnite the Movie 3 Part Two.
    • Dawn of the Clown is a remake of Fortnite the Movie.
    • While technically not a remake, Spyman Unleashed is an expansion on The Spyman, which no longer exists.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated:
    • Mime. Twice. Mime survived after seemingly being killed during Fortnite the Movie, and is seen again in the sequel. Mime again seemingly dies immediately, but is revealed to have survived in the climax of Fortnite the Movie 8: Enemy of the Clown.
    • The Spyman. It's revealed in Spyman Unleashed that Spyman actually survived his encounter with Meater.
  • Riding into the Sunset: Well, walking. Granny Business features one.
  • Running Gag:
    • People being set on fire.
    • In Jesus vs Rampage: Yawn of Justice, Rampage is constantly stealing peoples cars after killing the driver.
  • Series Continuity Error: In Hunted, Influencer Steve chases Norm down as revenge for being assaulted in Ab-Norm-al, however in Ab-Norm-al, Influencer Steve was meant to stay dead and have no other impact in the series, only being a tool to advance what little of a story there was in Ab-Norm-al. During the production of Hunted, it was realised at the last minute that Influencer Steve had in fact dies in the previous episode, and it unfortunately was too late to fix this issue. Influence Steve's death was later retconned, and was changed to have survived the attack, blaming Norm for not saving his life, which is why Influencer Steve is hellbent on tracking down Norm and putting a bullet right in the middle of his moustache.
  • Series Hiatus: Dear lord. Almost no other trope applies as much as this one.
    • Fortnite the Movie, Fortnite the Movie 2 and Fortnite the Movie 3 Part 1 all were released in the span of a week. Fortnite the Movie 3 Part 2 would be released roughly two and a half weeks later.
    • Fortnite the Movie 4 would release mid December of 2019. In the next two and a half weeks, we would see the release of The Spyman, Fortnite the Movie 5: Vengeance, Fortnite the Movie 6 and Prequel.
    • Over two months later, Mime Time and Knives Out 2 were released back to back over two days. Almost three weeks after this, Fortnite the Movie 7: Rise of the Clown and Old Times would release in a similar way to the previous duo. One month after Old Times was released, Bigmouth, Jesus! and The Clown would all release on the same day.
    • Almost two whole years after the release of The Clown, The Fortnite the Movie Remake would be released. Fortnite the Movie 8: The Enemy of the Clown, The Roadtrip and Granny Business would all be released in the span of a week after this. This would be the longest hiatus to this date.
    • Eight months after Granny Business, we would see the release of The Cowboy Contract, Norm's Night of Horror, Cop Movie and Ab-Norm-al in the span of a few days.
    • Three months later, The Fortnite the Movie Holiday Special would be released, along with Hunted, The Wreckage and The Gustavo Show.
    • Goliath and Jesus vs Rampage: Yawn of Justice would be released two months after this in the span of a few days.
    • Another month after the previous two films were released, Last of the Clowns would be released.
    • Almost three whole months later, Fortnite the Movie 9: Day of the Clown would release, and within a week, Larva would release too, as well as a teaser for the fourth and final season of The Norm Show.
  • Shabby Heroes, Well-Dressed Villains:
    • Dirt and Jokeman Ranch in Fortnite the Movie 3, Fortnite the Movie 5: Vengeance and Fortnite the Movie 6. Dirt wears a grimy hoodie and jeans in Fortnite the Movie 3, while Jokeman Ranch wears a dapper suit and top hat, and wears the same suit in Fortnite the Movie 5: Vengeance and Fortnite the Movie 6. In Fortnite the Movie 5: Vengeance and Fortnite the Movie 6, Dirt gets a little fancier with a grey suit jacket, however underneath is a hideous Santa t-shirt.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Bigmouth and especially the scrapped film, Bigmouth Strikes Again are references to the song by The Smiths.
    • The titles of Chapter Ten and Eleven of The Norm Show is a reference to the film Batman (1989).
  • Spell My Name with a "The": The Clown. Sometimes referred to as Clown and sometimes as The Clown.
  • Spoiler Title: Fortnite the Movie 9: Day of the Clown is the ultimate showdown between The Clown Gang and the rest of the main cast. Directly after this film is Last of the Clowns. It's clear which side lost.
  • The Stinger:
    • Fortnite the Movie 6: Jokeman Ranch reaches for a ladder after an almost fatal encounter with The Clown.
    • Fortnite the Movie 9: Day of the Clown: Mime meets with The Oni.
  • Strike Me Down with All of Your Hatred!: The Oni to Samboy before the latter's death.
  • Suicide by Cop: Early plan for the death of Jokeman Ranch. Eventually scrapped since it's a bit shit.
  • Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome: Jeane in Fortnite the Movie 7: Rise of the Clown, due to Executive Meddling.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Gustavo Pepperoni. After the apparent death of Norm, we are introduced to Gustavo, a skilled assassin who basically does everything Norm but better.
  • Totalitarian Utilitarian: Jokeman Ranch.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Influencer Steve seemingly dies in Ab-Norm-al after being shot down by the intruder. In Hunted, Influencer Steve is seen running around trying to kill Norm as if he was never killed a mere day ago.
  • Villain Protagonist: The Cowboy in Old Times.
  • Violence Really Is the Answer: Have you seen any of the films?
  • The War Has Just Begun: The end of TNS 12 heavily implies this.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Jokeman Ranch. If not for his deeds, everyone would be dead. The only thing between The Oni and world domination was Ranch himself, but after he is killed by Mime, The Oni is finally able to enact his plan to dominate the world.
  • Wham Episode:
    • Fortnite the Movie 9: The Day of the Clown.
    • TNS 12 features the death of Norm. Bet you didn't expect that.
  • Wham Shot: The shot of Big Norm's face in Goliath during the store encounter.
  • Xanatos Gambit: The Oni.
  • The X of Y: All of the main nine films feature this format, most notably 7-9.
    • Norm's Night of Horror.
    • Last of the Clowns
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: At the end of Dance with the Devil, The Oni kills The Demon.
