My Little Pony: Magic Shards is a 2D platformer Fan Game of the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic TV show made by Darkera Studios. It was developed with Game Maker and was finished in 2012. It can be downloaded here and the soundtrack can be downloaded here. The game features the Mane Six as playable characters, as well as 8 other purchasable ones, all with their own attacks except for two of them.

The Plot of the game is that an unicorn stallion named Lord Master, who was bullied in his youth, tried to obtain the magic of Princess Celestia, but failed, causing shards of magic to be scattered all over Equestria, and Twilight and her friends need to collect them before anything bad can happen.

A remake of the game was planned once, but it was never finished, likely so the developers could work on the game's Spiritual Successor, My Little Pony: Rise of the Clockwork Stallions.

The game contains examples of:

  • Airborne Mook: The pink and light grey fuzzies.
  • Alliterative Name: Moonlight Mist.
  • The Beastmaster: Fluttershy throws her pet rabbit, Angel, as her attack.
  • Big Bad: Lord Master.
  • Big Fancy Castle: The first few levels of Canterlot.
  • Black Eyes of Crazy: The brown fuzzies, pony enemies, and the snake boss (when hit) have these.
  • Black Mage: Bio, the black alicorn that was powering Lord Master while you fought him.
  • Bleak Level: Puppet Panic 1. The music adds to the mood, and added by the fact that your vision is limited.
  • Bottomless Pit
  • Bonus Stage: The Secret Levels in the game.
  • Bouncing Battler: Rainbow Dash and Big Macintosh, as they don't have any other form of attack, only have the option to Goomba Stomp their enemies.
  • Boss-Only Level: All of the boss levels except Boss 1 have no enemies except for the bosses themselves.
  • Collision Damage
  • Dark Is Evil: The pony enemies, as well as Bio, have black fur.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: When you defeat Lord Master, he is forgiven and befriended by the Mane Six in a cutscene.
  • The Dragon: Bio is working to help Lord Master with his plan by powering him up.
  • Easily Forgiven: Lord Master, after trying to steal the magic of the ruler of Equestria, is quickly forgiven after mentioning that he just wanted to have friends, and even gets a job as a Royal Guard by her in the end.
  • Edible Bludgeon: Applejack, Carrot Top, and Bon Bon throw apples, carrots, and candies respectively as their attacks.
  • Every 10,000 Points: Collecting 100 apples awards you with 200 bits.
  • Fan Character: Moonlight Mist, the white unicorn mare you can unlock, is the creator's fan character.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason Lord Master decided to steal Princess Celestia's magic was because he was treated badly when he was a colt.
  • Guide Dang It!: You can fire your phoenixes to kill enemies by pressing X, but you wouldn't know this without guessing because the tutorial doesn't tell you.
  • The Goomba: The brown fuzzies.
  • Goomba Stomp: You can defeat enemies by jumping on them, but how many times you need to do so depends.
  • Hearts Are Health
  • Heel–Face Turn: Lord Master changes his evil ways after he is beaten by the Mane Six.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: After defeating Lord Master, it's revealed that he was planning to control other ponies' minds to be his friends.
  • Impossible Item Drop: The enemies can drop apples when defeated.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Lyra and Octavia attack with musical instruments, Applejack, Carrot Top, and Bon Bon attack with food, and Derpy attacks with mail.
  • Killer Rabbit: The fuzzy creatures, fish, and snake boss. Lampshaded by the narrator in the tutorial.
"Those fuzzy creatures may BE cute, but they are nasty meanies!"
Bio: "I am truely impressed!"
  • Save-Game Limits: You can only have one save file.
  • Save Point: You can only save your game in certain areas of the map.
  • Scary Teeth: The brown fuzzies and the snake boss (when hit) have these.
  • Schrödinger's Player Character: The game is this until you beat the Final Boss, where all of the Mane Six are present, as well as Moonlight Mist when it's revealed that the story was fiction. However, none of the other characters you can play as ever appear.
  • Score Milking: In the boss fight against Discord, you can go back to the part with the free hearts by attempting to go back to the character select screen when you actually get to Discord, and collecting hearts gives you points.
  • Secret Character: Aside from the Mane Six and other characters you can buy in the shop, there are other characters you can play as through pressing a key in the character select screen to input a password.
  • Secret Level: The game has levels that can only be accessed if you collect all of the red medals in them. The Golden Oaks Library can be accessed without having to collect red medals, but it's not clear that you can even go there.
  • Sequence Breaking: You can skip either Ponyville 2 or Ponyville 3 and go straight to Lake Hooves because of the way the map's formatted.
