Falling Fred is a 2011 Mobile Phone Game by Dedalord, about an extremely unlucky kid named Fred (full name Richardson L. Frederick the Third). It's perhaps best known aspect is the "Gore Galore" - getting hit by an obstacle is usually followed by a huge amount of graphic violence at Fred's expense.

The game spawned a series of games, officially known as Fred's World:

  • Falling Fred (2011) - The titular original game, where Fred has to survive a vertical falling for as long as possible while dodging deadly obstacles.
    • Falling Fred Z (2011) - Features zombie version of Fred falling through two new locations with the new soundtrack. Its elements would be later incorporated into the original game.
    • Super Falling Fred (2012) - An improved version of Falling Fred with new obstacles, customisation features and power-ups.
  • Running Fred (2012) - A third person platformer, more closely resembling other Endless Running Games.
    • Running Fred Sektor 51 (TBA) - A brand new game that takes place in Sektor 51, which was originally planned to be the fourth world in the original Running Fred.
  • Skiing Fred (2013) - Another take on endless runner genre akin to Running Fred. This time Fred rides on a snowboard across various snow-themed locations. The game adds even more customisation features, like vehicles, scarfs and snowboards.
    • Skiing Fred VERSUS (2013) - a multiplayer take on Skiing Fred, where several players can compete against each other in short races.
  • Clicker Fred (2017) - An Idle Game, where you force Fred and his many counterparts from The Multiverse to collect Skullies for you.
  • Football Fred (2018) - A Lighter and Softer football management sim starring Fred as a Couch.

An Excuse Plot of these games is that Fred's soul was sold by his Evil Twin Alfreddo, granting him Resurrective Immortality. Unfortunately, Grimmy was assigned to kill him, and will stop at nothing.

A Creator-Driven Successor to Running Fred was released by Dedalord in 2015, known as SuperSonic Jack.

Falling Fred and its sequels contain examples of:

  • Action Bomb: While most of the penguins in Skiing Fred are harmless, some will wear suicide belts. Touching them will cause an explosion and yet another death for Fred.
  • Alliterative Title: Falling Fred and Football Fred, thought he rest of the series avoids this trope.
  • All There in the Manual: A very little of what this game has as a plot was shared either through the social media or the "Did You Know?" tips on the loading screens. Football Fred is the one game that gets to properly explain its plot in the tutorial.
  • Attention Whore: Emotica Diva from Falling Fred likes to get attention from other people by cutting herself. This seems to be the reason why she is involved into the events of the game, and if newspaper article seen after a game over is anything to go by, she succeeded. Blonde "Gigi" Lala, being part-Diva's clone, shares similar character traits.
  • Become a Real Boy: Dr. Crash T. Dummy is a computer robot in the body of a crash test dummy with Ph. D. in "Kinetic Force-Educed Organ Relocation Statistics". His descriptions in various games state that becoming a human being is an earnest desire of his, and his last promotion title in Clicker Fred is even called "A Real Boy!".
  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: Yolanda, a female sasquach from a trailer to Running Fred and one of the playable characters in Skiing. She has a crush on Fred.
  • Born Unlucky: Fred. Alfreddo sees him as nothing but a joke (Skiing Fred claims that he was the one who put all of the traps to kill Fred, and in Football Fred, he fires his brother without a second thought despite Fred's team winning), Grimmy finds his immortality amusing and continues to torture him, eventually dragging him to hell, and he doesn't seem to get along with others very well if spear-tossing Frosties and crazy penguins being just as eager to kill him in Skiing Fred are anything to go by.
  • Breakout Character: Out of many selectable playable characters, Doctor Crash T. Dummy has the most playable appearances aside from Fred himself, only skipping out in Running Fred. Notably, he appears in Clicker Fred as one of the running characters and Football Fred as Fred's assistant, being one of three returning characters.
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: One of the skins in Running Fred is simply Fred in his underwear.
  • Company Cross References: Earliest games in the series had plenty of references to Dedalord's previous game, Psychoban. Most notably, its protagonist, Psycho Mental Jay Dude, appears in Super Falling Fred and Skiing Fred as one of the playable characters. The latter game also features Zip and Zap, two aliens who appeared in the ending of Psychoban.
  • Continuity Nod: Running Fred has Free Fall sections referencing Falling Fred, where you have to dodge obstacles on your way down with similar controls. These sections however are much shorter, and end when you land on a green carpet (Green Land Zone) at the bottom.
  • Death Is Cheap: Fred is sent to hell after each death, but thanks to the contract, it takes him two minutes to come back to life, making him stuck in an endless circle of trying to stay alive, being killed and respawning.
  • Demoted to Extra: Fred himself in Football Fred goes from the main protagonist and playable character to being simply player's coach.
  • Dragged Off to Hell: What happens to poor Fred in Clicker Fred. And it's not just him, but many of his counterparts from parallel dimensions end up here as well.
  • Escape Sequence: In Running Fred and Skiing Fred, the player character is pursued by Grimmy. If you're not using accelerators (Running) or continue sprinting (Skiing) and make too many slip-ups on non-lethal obstacles, Grimmy will get catch up to Fred and slice him down.
  • Evil Twin: Alfreddo is pretty much the reason for all the suffering Fred goes through in the games, as he sold Fred's soul for a hat. One official post explains how much of a Jerkass he really is. According to one of the loading messages in Skiing Fred, all of the death traps were placed by him in an attempt to kill his brother.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: No matter how hard Fred tries to escape from Grimmy, the death will always await for him.
  • Game-Breaking Bug: Unfortunately, an Android update caused Falling to become unplayable on that platform, as it now crashes as soon as it's opened. Thankfully, Super Falling wasn't a victim of this.
  • Generic Girl: Blonde "Gigi" Lala is described as the definition of this trope, being spawned from a cloning incident involving samples of many pop-music icons.
  • God Is Displeased: In the teaser for Skiing Fred, Fred prays for God to save him from Grimmy. He gets flipped off.
  • Gorn: The series really loves this trope, with blood and dismemberment being a huge part of its advertising. There is however an option to disable it in most games. When the series made a brief return with Clicker and Football, the trope became completely averted, as blood wasn't present at all, though the former game still retains Black Comedy.
  • Human Snowball: One of the power-ups in Skiing allows Fred to become this. It lasts few seconds, but makes you (mostly) invulnerable to obstacles.
  • I Fell for Hours: Falling Fred is all about trying to survive falling into a pit for as long as possible. The bottom that ends the fall only appears after a character gets knocked out by taking enough damage.
  • Interpretative Character: What exactly is Crash T. Dummy depends on the game. Earliest games depicted him as a sentient test dummy smart enough to have a Philosophy degree. However, Clicker Fred would treat him as one of the Freds from another dimension, with some localizations referring to him as "Crash Fred". Football Fred would ignore this, as Fred claims that Crash is a talking computer robot. Sektor 51, judging by the preview, returns to Clicker Fred explanation, as the character is referred to as "Crashing Fred".
  • Karma Houdini: Alfreddo, Fred's evil twin and the one responsible for all the latter's suffering, is never shown getting punished for his actions.
  • Later-Installment Weirdness: Football Fred is much Lighter and Softer than any of the Fred's World games that came out before and after it, getting rid of the gore and dark humour completely. Fred is not in a focus, being relegated to an NPC role alongside Crash Dummy, and mainstay character Grimmy is nowhere to be seen aside from one of the cups using his likeness as a name.
  • Le Parkour: Fred got some pretty fancy tricks up his sleeve in Running Fred, being able to Wall Run, Wall Jump and "Chicken Flap".
  • The Many Deaths of You: These games have many obstacles that tear Fred apart in different ways. From being impaled by the spikes and falling from the high distance, to being set on fire and blown up by the barrels. Oh, and there's also Grimmy trying to get you.
  • The Multiverse: Clicker Fred has Freds from multiple parallel dimensions teleported to hell and tortured by Grimmy (and you) for all eternity. The game claims that all of them had their souls sold, like classic Fred.
  • Never Trust a Title: Skiing Fred doesn't have any skiing involved, unless you consider it to be interchangeable with snowboarding, which is what Fred actually does. This is lampshaded on the official FAQ page, where the first question calls out Dedalord on this trope, which is answered with "… so?"
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Martin Castor from Falling Fred was very obviously based on Justin Bieber. The official Facebook page doesn't even try to make him an Expy or Captain Ersatz, and refers to him as THE Justin Bieber. There's also Blonde "Gigi" Lala.
  • Normally, I Would Be Dead Now: Despite the nature of these games, Fred (And every other playable character to an extent) manages to survive the fall in both Falling Fred and Super Falling Fred. According to the newspaper article shown at the end of each round, he was taken to the hospital and given a very expensive bill. This could be an Early Instalment Weirdness though, as Fred dies a lot in later games and Resurrective Immortality justification wasn't revealed until Running Fred.
  • Palette Swap: Blonde "Gigi" Lala and Emotica Diva are nearly identical in appearance, aside from hair color and barely noticable accessories.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Unlike most endless runners, the main protagonist's many deaths are actually considered to be a part of the canon, all thanks to Alfreddo selling Fred's soul as his own.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Various costumes in Running Fred are based on characters from other media, such as Jumper Fred, Fred Killer and Pip Fred.
    • Skiing Fred ups the number of references with several gear equipments, such as "Ghostly" snowboard, which is basically Pinky from Pac-Man and a Chaingun jetpack, a Machine Gun Jetpack from Jetpack Joyride.
    • Clicker Fred has few of the costumes from Running Fred return with slight alternations, such as Jumper Fred being renamed into Plumber Fred and have his cap's color changed from red to blue, and Pip Fred being renamed into Vault Fred. In addition to these returning ones, new Freds are added, such as Trainer Fred, Hamsterman, Hadou Fred and Merc Fred.
  • Space Base: Sektor 51 teaser shows that the titular laboratory is located somewhere in space. According to the map screen, Fred crash landed there on a rocket.
  • Spelling Bonus: Collecting F-R-E-D cubes in Falling and Super Falling Fred will restore your character's health. (Though not the body parts they may have lost.)
  • Stern Chase: Grimmy won't stop at anything to kill Fred, and not going fast enough in Running and Skiing Fred (Which is done by using accelerators in Running and by holding the jump button to sprint in Skiing) will end with him catching up and killing you with his scythe.
